The Big Question ?

The Balsacraft Model Design warbirds do crop up on eBay quite regularly and don't seem to be commanding the very high prices that they did at one time.  Unstarted Bearcat and started FW190 kits went a couple of months back for ~£90 ish, when a few years ago they were regularly selling at £130-150 a pop. It all depends on the bidding though, as a Sea Fury recently did go for around £130.

Advert

3 of my Warbirds Replicas models at the field today,  the Tempest now fitted with retracts handled the wind very well as did the Yak9. The Mustang had an undercarriage problem and kept turning to the left on take off hopefully now sorted for tomorrow.

I am going to the Best of British Show at BMFA HQ at the end of the month .  I think Paul Johnson is going to be there too and Ron Gray & Chris Walby .

Maybe Professor Eric and Graham Davies . It would be good to see many more that I have chatted to over the years .

I know I will be allowed to fly (despite most people's better judgement ) because I have a B certificate dating back to the days when we flew at Sandown.

Can anyone clarify if the rest of our gang can fly with perhaps just an A certificate ?

Ive never been there before so not sure if it is under the Show or Club category .

One of the main reasons for going , apart from a fried breakfast , is to chat to some of "gang " . The people who despite all normal common sense , keep buying kits from me .

I shall be grilling them on the good, the bad and the "possible" for the future . I will also bring a few 190s and Tempest kits in case any of those people not in our gang think they would like to  join in .

Did you know that there is a whole world out there that doesn't know anything about Warbirds Replicas ?

Its probably a good thing on reflection .

Hoping to be there with my 109. I’ve never done any form of certification so whilst I’d love to fly I’m not getting my hopes up!

The Buckminster rules say nothing about the need for a cert to allow you to fly. All flying will be ‘controlled’ by the flight line manager (in most instances me) so it will be the flight line manager’s responsibility to determine safe flying. This event centres around having fun so as long as pilots fly safely and don’t endanger themselves, others or property then all is good.

I stand corrected, you sure about over 7kg though Ron ?

Direct from the 'Flying' part of the Bucko info:

6. FLYING RULES – GENERAL

All pilots are responsible for lawful operation.

All pilots must show proof of BMFA or equivalent liability insurance if requested to do so.

Specific rules will be implemented and briefed for individual events as appropriate.

All pilots/visitors must check in at reception prior to commencing flying (unless alternative arrangements are in place for the day).

All pilots should familiarise themselves with site layout/operating rules prior to flying.

Pilots must observe the specified ‘dead airspace’ for each flightline/pilots box.

Flightline/pilots box in use for R/C flying will be designated/established at the start of each flying day but may be subject to change to reflect changes in wind direction/operating conditions/additional usage.

Vehicles are not to be taken out onto flightlines unless with specific permission from Event Organiser, Flightline Controller, or duty staff member.

All rubbish and debris must be removed from the flight line and flying area.

Damaged/scrap lithium polymer batteries must be disposed of appropriately, do not place them in general waste bins, seek guidance from duty staff member or remove from site completely.

When mixed activity is taking place, it is expected that all parties will communicate effectively to ensure safe practice and best utilisation of facilities.

The General Flying rules and principles detailed in the BMFA Members Handbooks apply at the BMFA National Centre.

Regarding weight, the only reference I can find is to over 25Kg, apart from the times of flying of which the only one that may affect us (not likely too) is this one:

Note *** Sundays have a stated finish time of 5.00pm for IC operations – for aircraft over 7.5kg and aircraft powered by gas turbines it is 4.00pm.

IMO the reason is that people attend Buckminster to complete their A so if they didn't have one how would they practice or do their A?

plus the LMA guys attend to conduct their aircraft and pilot proficiency checks, its possible they don't have a BMFA (unlikely)!

Very nice Eric, what engine you got in that please?

It is the 4250 800kv that Richard supplied.

Gosh that engine's noisy Eric and that chap at the end of the field is brave or is he a marker?

The motor was quiet until I fitted the plastic spinner again. The chap at the end is a cow chaser 😳 🤣  he was further away than it appears

I will be at the event, hoping to make it for the Laser Friday and either Sat or Sun, which ever day shows the better weather, unfortunately i won`t be bringing a flyable Warbirds Replicas model as i have had too many other distractions to get the Lavochkin completed, i may stick it in the car so people can shame me into getting it finished 🙄. Richard i will bring the HE 111 moulds and plan with me for you to look at/ take away if we can get something organised re making some glazing parts/foam wings, who knows there may be a stampede for more Einkel parts when other Warbird followers cast their beadys over the plans and parts. Any chance you could bring your Heinkel along to the event Richard, i promise not to drool over it too much 😁.
