RICHARD WILLS
So , how would you all feel about a another Dogfight Double along the same lines as the Fw190 /Tempest ? I would choose this time . It would be the most famous pairing , the Battle of Britain 109E and the Mk1a Spitfire . Foam wings etc same as the previous pair . Dolly launch capability with retract option. My gut feeling is that the numbers would justify the Spit but perhaps not the 109 . The aim with both is to make them easy to fly and operate and still look as good as anything on the market .
GrumpyGnome
Guess I'm going to need more LiPos.... Bf 109 gets my vote. Edited May 29 by GrumpyGnome

Having just checked the hangers, it would appear that I am missing both a Spitfire and a ME109....sorted then...one of each please with retracts and electrics/spinner/prop if available! Honest I am making progress with the Bf110...and the new shed is on the cards...now! How about something with folding wings next! 🙂 Edited May 29 by Chris Walby
gillyg1
109 for me please Richard. 👍

Lipo Man
I’d definitely go for either if they fly as well as the FW190. Weirdly although I think the Spitfire is one of the most magnificent looking machines ever made, I think I’d have a slight preference for the 109. But Mosquito first…

As you know, that's my ultimate pairing of the two greatest fighter aeroplanes of all time, in the pre-eminent fighter combat campaign of all time. Despite having several of each, there is a 55"-57" span hole in my 109E fleet. I'd certainly take both, thank you.
John Timmis
Yes please. One of each 😀😀. That’s something to look forward to.
Silver Wolf
Likely to have one of each, definitely the 109 (one of my favourites) retracts, spinners motors etc. A good incentive to get house renovation finished, although knowing that a mossie is on the way at some time certainly helps 😉
andrew exton
Yep either or both but that depends on the bank manger , if not I would have to toss a coin andy
RICHARD WILLS
I think its a shame that people get put off by the Spitfires "reputation " . With light wing loading and good wing sections , the Spitfire can be a delight to fly . In many ways , it should fly a lot like the Tempest . The main disadvantage is the narrow track undercarriage . Firstly , since many of you have been flying off Dollys , this isnt a factor . Secondly , by using Foam veneer wings this time , the undercarriage (when fitted) can be installed in such a way to dissipate the energy . There are two other specific bonus features (and this comes from somebody who is not specifically a Spitfire fan ) , 1) when that shape comes together in front of you , particularly as you fit the wing fairings , which bring all of those elliptical shapes together , it really is like nothing else . The blending of curves and elegance of the long tail is without comparison elsewhere in the world of WW2 fighters . 2) Everyone at the field you visit reacts positively to the Spitfire in all of its variants! "Tally Ho" chaps! https://thescalemodelhangar.com/2017/03/27/first-light/
andrew exton
Flown your all balsa spitfire once or twice off the dolly no problem either end of flight , flys beautifully Edited May 30 by andrew exton
Paul Johnson 4
It does fly well... really well... actually really well. Power train Preditor 580kv and 14x9x3 master airscrew prop and 4S 3300mah. Just ask Richard...
Chris Walby
I guess its about time to add the Spitfire and ME109 to the hanger collection and see what all this full size hype is about! I quite liked the Cambrian ME109, but IMO was a very dated design with a very draggy airframe. I prefer the more obscure (to the general modeller) and that fits with the tendency for twins, but having flown the WR FW190 and WR Tempest I am hooked on Richard's designs so a couple more are not to be missed 🙂. The problem with obscure (Zero, LA, Ki84 etc) is that although they might be great flyers, they just sell in quantity. A bit of work between sessions with the WR Bf110
Eric Robson
I was hoping to test fly the 109e tomorrow as the forecast is for lighter winds. Still more to do before it is ready so hopefully it will be ready whenever the next fine day arrives
Eric Robson
No flying today, I spent some time making decals and adding some more detail. My printer is in need of ink, I borrowed my sons printer but it is only basic and would not enlarge images so I had to draw the decals onto vinyl and cut them out. The crosses are easy but the red 2 was awkward.

Thanks Brian, I have the pink foam spinner shown on the previous photo, the foam spinners I made for my Whirlwind lasted well till its demise. Richard is looking into the possibility of 3d printed spinners.

martin collins 1
I would be up for a 109E, i already have your G kit in the queue, i may be tempted for a Spitfire as well, just got to count the pennies before i commit to both, what time scale would you be looking at Richard? JonL
I've been lurking with interest around the WR threads for a while now. There seems to be an awful lot of help, support and ideas with the builds, which would be of great use. What would the approx cost of a kit be with post within UK? Peter Atkins
Looks like I will have another box in the queue for the building board. Interested in the ME109 but will no doubt get the both.
mightypeesh
Definitely a 109 for me Richard (and maybe a spitty to build later!) 🙂
