I've been reading RCM&E now for a very, very long time. I'm a huge fan. My toilet would seem empty without a copy lying on the floor

BUT,  just what is going on?

I've just recieved my subscription copy for the month of June. It's late, really late, indeed, inside it tells me that the NEXT edition will be on 21 june.

that's last week.

And my subscription demands much more P&P because I'm in Europe. Mon dieu it comes from Switzerland.. Its just next door; La belle france has a border with it. Or DOES it come from La Suisse? The wee label is stuck over another label that says Austria. It doesn't matter a whiff of castor to me, but why am I paying more? Austria is still an awful lot nearer to me than England. And what about Toto, Edinburgh is on the  other side of the planet.

And finally, I'm being charged just over 6 pounds per copy, yet, I get a free plan worth a fantastic 17 pounds. WOW its like visiting m le bucher for 500g of mince, and being given a couple of fillet steaks for free

In France, I would gently point out, a steak is a 4 year old Charolais cow, bred for pulling a plough, no fat, just 4 year old muscle. Pleasant gentle thing on the hoof, but not great eating. You are heretically comparing it to Angus beef, marbled with fat to supply flavour to the surfaces. Sacré bleu.

P.S have you ever built a free plan, and if so how many in the last 10 years.
PPS, surely, unless you are a wee free, there are more comfortable things to wipe bottoms with.

Hi Ernie, I agree, maybe you've seen my post in a similar vein on the RCM&E Subscription thread. I still haven't reveived my July issue!

Don, before you ask, I've built very many of the models featured as free plans.  Peter Miller designs are always worth the effort.

  • 2 weeks later...

A few days ago I received a free digital copy of the latest Mag from Mortons,in appreciation of being a Forum user. At the time I only quickly looked at it with the intention of reading it more fully later, but it has vanished. Has anyone any knowledge of whether it was a one off occasion,or I have somehow erased it?

Not just RCM&E. I'm sill waiting, like other subscribers (in the UK), for last months subscription issue of Aero modeller. Every time I ring I'm told it's due to "trouble at mill(sorry I meant printers)". Thursday next week the follow on issue is due - will they both arrive together? Or, not at all?

Pretty much the same thing happened with Flying Scale Models mag last Autumn…. from the same publishers.

No word in what turned out to be the last issue that it was being discontinued, but that is what happened.

Hopefully it isn’t the same situation with Aeromodeller.

Not sure who owns the commercial rights to Aeromodeller.

However if my understanding is correct there could be some significant changes within the magazine coming.

Makes sense really. FSM magazine suffered badly through Covid and with the passing of Alex and Peter lost two substantial contributors.

Also they refused to modernise the content and relied very heavily on reproduced old material (including spelling mistakes !).

They didn't realise that most of us can remember reading the articles the first time around. Such was the age demographic of its readership.

They are not on their own. Many magazines are struggling to find regular contributors as the hobby interests don't generate sufficient income for the publishers to employ full time journalists any more. Plus people aren't travelling as much to the shows to report on them.
