Would your free item prevent two headphone cables stored in a draw from entangling? Always thought it would be a good research topic for a post graduate student as to why it happens. Do cables attract each other or is there another theory?

Someone was awarded an Ignoble Prize for a paper they researched on this very topic a few years ago. You may even be able to find it with a bit of searching. Interesting read though. Now the clever part is to invent head set leads that don't entangle.

My wife complained yesterday that her single set of headphone cable got tangled. In this case you obviously don't need two to tango(l). I used to keep my meter, oscilloscope, signal generator etc cables tidily in my bench drawer at work - i was convinced they were reproducing they were so hard to extract. Brian Cooper
I called the Paranoia Hotline today. The voice that answered asked, "How did you get this number"? 1
Gary Manuel
I noticed that other people’s phone handset cables used to always develop at twist over time - as though they somehow turned it around whilst using it, or worse - picked it up with the cable on one side and replaced it with the cable on the other side. What’s wrong with people! Grrrr.

That’s no excuse for not unwinding it so that the cord lays naturally without tangles before replacing the handset.

All this talk of tangled cables reminds me of a cleaner we once had at work, who used to pull a cylinder type vacuum cleaner around behind her with the most awfully tangled mains cable we’d ever seen in our lives. This was bought about by the fact that she used to wind the cable up (around her elbow) from the plug end. We tried explaining to her several times that if she wound it from the vacuum cleaner end, it wouldn’t happen because the plug would spin around on the floor as she went, therefore removing the twists. She just couldn’t get it - you can’t help some people!

Don Fry
I’m lost here, who’s odd. I would not dream of telling the office cleaner how beautiful she was, or comment on her cables. Note she has a Henry to swing. I’ve got a pen.
