My first two wheeler was  a Triumph Tigress for a tenner.  Passed my test and sold it for a tenner a fortnight later.  Bought a BSA B40 another lesser known machine.

We once stayed in a French B&B where we ate an (excellent) evening meal in the same room where the family lived.  They were watching a TV game show where the contestants had to identify words as masculine or feminine.  The French have just as many problems with ascribing gender to in animate objects as we do - I suspect a washing machine might well be included 🙂  I remember that, at the time, it gave me great comfort in my inadequate attempts to speak French despite my pass at 'O' Level GCE
