Bridon Posted August 13 Share Posted August 13 MFS Skyhawk kit, I have inherited an incomplete kit but what's left has not been built but would be perfect for spares, so there is an intact Blue Fibreglass Fuselage complete with both foam wings unused and still in their protective foam casing plus the full set of Vac Formed wheel spats. Ideal replacement items for anyone who has a damaged or crashed model. Collection only from Cheltenham Gloucestershire. Offers invited. Brian. Engine Doctor Posted August 13 Share Posted August 13 (edited) Did they fly any better than the larger Yamamoto Mk11 ? I see the box art has what looks like an HP 21 in it so they obviously didnt need too much power ... Ok its just for the photo but I cant remember the sky hawk . The Yamamoto or plastic pig as it was nicknamed came in very heavy but flew ok but it was a fast model due to its weight . Sadly, the kit became forgotten and parts displaced and all that was left were the items up for sale. Robin Colbourne Posted August 13 Share Posted August 13 I had an MFA Skyhawk in the same pale blue as Bridon's. I bought it secondhand and didn't have very high expectations for it, what with a polyester glass fuselage and four full size servos with only an OS Max 20 to pull it around. What a surprise! It was a really nice flier and I used it for quite a while as a buddy box trainer when I was giving one to one lessons, despite its small size. I see to remember it went in hard and the gelcoat cracked up at the bottom of the 'windscreen' and around the bottom of the fuselage. Someone bought it with a view to repairing it, but I don't know if they did. I hope Bridon finds a good home for his as it is quite a rare model now. By coincidence one of our club members mentioned the New Yamamoto when I was telling him about my wooden Yamamoto that I've been flying recently, after finding it on eBay. I have a couple of part-built New Yamamotos, and this chap was keen to get another, so hopefully we will see one of them in the air soon. After a thorough search of his attic, this morning, he gave me everything he found...not much but now there are the illustrated instructions, the plan, the nose leg and engine mount, wing joining tape and the Vac-Form cowling plus the only part he built...the tailplane!. (see photo) None of this was thought to exist so I will add all of these to the deal which as I said is open to reasonable offers. Cuban8 Posted August 14 Share Posted August 14 Would make an interesting project for someone into a bit of retro modelling and who knew what they were doing in terms of keeping the all up weight down - I really wouldn't give it or sell it to a beginner either to build or learn to fly on. Not too bad for a general hack in experienced hands, but my experience of most MFA models was not at all positive in terms of machines for total beginners. The appearance of a Yamamoto in particular, in the hands of a new member coming to learn the ropes meant that I was to be in for some interesting moments! Not saying it was a very bad model in itself, and I'd always after a while, ( and after a thorough check) demonstrate what the newbie's model could do when pushing it a bit so when they struggled to keep it under control they'd know it wasn't the model. Bridon Posted August 14 Author Share Posted August 14 I agree, I certainly wouldn't expect a novice to consider it as a project and like you say, I would deter any beginner to consider this as a first model. My main thought was possibly as a replacement for someone who has a damaged model of the same design or for someone who has the knowledge to make up the model with additional parts if they so desire especially now the plan has come to light today that could be a real possibility. 😉 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bridon Posted August 15 Author Share Posted August 15 I can see there has been quite a bit of interest in the Skyhawk and although I said collection only initially as I thought it would be too bulky to post. However, I appreciate pick-up may be difficult so I have looked into post and packing via a courier for everything including the box and this would work out at £5:50 mainland UK delivered in 3-5 days if that might be an option for anyone. 😉 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
