martin collins 1
With the sad news that Cambrian and Laser were closing shop recently, i now have some good news regarding a Uk manufacturer, Skyways Models are now in production and have kits on the shelf of the well known Hawk 70 kit. The Skyways name will be well known to those who have been in the hobby for a number of years, in the old days they offered a series of kits including the Hawk 70, Chipperhawk, Hawk Moth and Stampe amongst others. These were `Plan pack` models which included the plan, one sheet of very brief instructions, foam wings and deckings etc, it was down to the builder to transfer the shapes from the plan onto their own balsa sheet and then cut everything out as well as provide the strip wood etc to build the model. Skyways ceased production many years ago but the name and designs were purchased by Steve Mason of Masons Models, over the intervening period he has been working on turning the models into proper CNC Cut kits which include ALL the wood and foam parts to build the kit. The Hawk 70 is the first of these and the kits are now on the shelf to order, Steve has wisely (in my opinion) not included a hardware pack of hinges, clevices etc as this pushes the price up and most people have their personal preferences on these items and if added they may be discarded as not the builders preference for that item. Also many of us already have those sort of things in our parts draw, i buy the types i use at the shows and have a stock already. Here is a link to the Skyways Hawk 70 page, Steve says the price includes postage but if picked up from his shop in Spalding the cost will get deducted from the sale price. https://masonsmodels.co.uk/product/skyway-models-hawk-70/ Edited August 20 by martin collins 1
Mike T
That's good news! Steve cut me a pair of replacement wings for my original Skyways Kestrel many years ago. I hope he introduces it again soon as I'd love another!
payneib
Is that kind of scale enough to be a Miles Magister?
Mike T
The Hawk 70 is very Magister-ish, albeit with De Havilland-y tail feathers 🙂
martin collins 1
The Miles Magister was based on the Miles Hawk Trainer so you can see where the Skyways Models name came from, easy to turn it into a Magister like model 👍.

Jason Channing
I flew one of these years ago and it was a pleasure to fly, an updated kit could well be interesting.
Cuban8
The Skyways BAE Hawk prop jet was an excellent model - looked very good in Red Arrows livery. A friend had one that he bought from them at Sandown, had it ready to go within a week or so and I got the honour of doing the hand launches for him which were always easy - flew well if a bit quick on the landings, but no real nasty vices. Be nice to see a new electric version from them at some point perhaps?
Graham R
I think an electric Bae Hawk will remain a dream. Not sure whether the templates were moved on when Phil sold the business. I along with 5 others flew the Hawks at many shows. They were an absolute dream to fly. Another great model was their Yak 18 with super tiger 25 or 30cc. Skyway Models and great friend Phil sadly missed.
Robin Colbourne
Its great to see Skyways Models being produced again. I have their 72" 1/4 scale Spinks Akromaster (like this one but much dustier), which I bought, completed, years ago, but have not yet flown. Now I am living near a flying site that it is perfect for it, I must blow the dust off and get it flying. I hope that Steve Mason adds some new designs to the range, as tastes in models do evolve. I'd probably not be able to resist cutting down the fus and wings on a Hawk, which would defeat the object a bit 🙂
martin collins 1
SKYWAY MODELS Hawk 70 kits will be available at Buckminster this weekend, Masons Models who are producing these kits is my local model shop and i am bringing a few Hawk 70 kits with me. Many will remember the original Plan Pack Skyway kits, these new ones from Steve Mason have all the pre cut wood included, requiring just the smaller hardware, wheels, tank etc to be sourced to suit the builder. Steve can offer these but the bits can also be sourced from SLEC at the weekend or your local model shop. This is a Best of British weekend at Buckminster, why not buy one of these British made kits, they are a well proven design that look like a 1940`s Miles Magister type aircraft, the Skyways Hawks are well known for their great flying characteristics. Pick one up from me at Buckminster and save yourself the postage cost, i have no financial interest in these kits, just helping out a British kit manufacturer who is local to me, price for the kits is £209 at Buckminster. Here is the link to the Hawk 70 information:- https://masonsmodels.co.uk/product/skyway-models-hawk-70/
Nigel Heather
Interesting - the 2 stroke recommendation of 45-65 is as expected but surprised that the recommended electric setup is 4S. Are they really equivalent?
