leccyflyer
Nice work Simon - that looks the business and you must have a great sense of satisfaction from having built the entire thing from scratch. 😎👍
toto
Very nice and thanks for the build photos. What about ventilation. It all looks wrapped up very nice and tight but can it breathe. I might ( from past experience) ba a bit concerned that you may be trapping warm ait inside that could condensate. I may be wrong. I wish I had the courage to do the same as I have spent a fortune on getting the basic frame manufactured and supplied for me to do the inside myself. I will be breaching all supplied vapour barriers and insulation supplied to install ventilation ducts though to provide air through flow. I'll make sure they are all closed again as I go. Excellent build otherwise. I hope my concerns are proven wrong. Feel free to update with how you continue as I'm always looking for ideas .... plagiarism rools ko. toto
No fewer than 5 visits to the tip today. back garden area freed up tremendously to look at building sub-bases. One more task to do first, dismantle the old floor frame. The actual floor sheeting is gone but the frame is the last piece of the old shed to commandere the space I need for the sub-bases. I might get the frame dismantled later tonight. My bones are aching a bit from all the lifting I've done all day. I have taken some pictures and may get them posted up earlier. Cheers for now. toto
So ..... as promised, a couple of photos with the shed slowly biting the dust. Not a comprehensive blow by blow. Just a taster for now. there she stands with the cladding starting to be stripped off. to reveal the stud frame .... and its gone .... now for the front wall ..... wonder if it will pull down with only two walls down .....😂 The plan had been to strip off the felt and unscrew the boarding to reveal the frame and take it down sensibly ..... but the roofer was too good and torched the felt on .... so it had to be the hard way. Anyway .... jumping ahead a bit ...... it eventually came down after taking the walls one by one from under it. and whats left of the roof. then the floor ..... stripped of the boarding to reveal the framework underneath ..... and that is where we are now ...... with some nice fresh 3 x 2 battens waiting to be converted into the sub-frame for the new shed. As I said .... not a blow by blow account as it would have just slowed me down but I will do a more comprehensive coverage of the new shed going up. cheers for now toto

toto
A bit to go yet... including a couple of weeks in Zante to go but looking forward to getting the new shed delivered ..... even at the end of October / beginning of November. ..... get it up and get it water tight. .... then ..... the internal fit out can begin. The quest is for four functional areas. Small domestic area ( not much ), storage wall for models, a workshop area and a desk area for a desk top PC etc. I get the feeling the the extra area will be soaked up rather quickly. It's all about best use of available space. Toto
Don Fry
Chuck desk top, phone or tablet does. Or are you doing missives to mistresses, in which case you are free to decide, but all sheds, by definition, are too small. Don’t waste it on friveries. toto
I have a tablet ..... can't do photo's. I like photos ...... I love photos,, I love to try and explain things even in my lowest common denominator terms. I'm no expert in anything I do but feel that I can get through to folks with pictures. I feel passionate in what I post and want to connect and folks to feel that I have done everything I can to get the point over. I also like to sit in my shed and fire up the forum ..... disappear into my own world and connect with my pals ..... a pad doesn't quite give me all the facilities ( that I can master ) to do that. I'll happily spend a few quid more to facilitate this ...... I love every minute. If it means that I have the participation of others to follow my journey ......... then it's worth it. Whilst I can afford it. Toto

toto
Believe me it had its issues. I had to decide between spending money to patch it up .... and producing something that was fit for purpose. The real deal came to bear when considering the condition of the smaller shed .... which had to go against replacing that now ..... and the bigger shed later .... or potentially getting the benefit of replacing the two now .... and getting the benefit of the combined bigger space as a single build. The bigger shed has already cost me money due to early remedials that were needed as a result of initial misgivings by the original builder. I had to replace the floor and build in ventilation otherwise the shed would have been matchwood about six years ago. The roof .... way over engineered was the best thing he done and the felt, blown on by his mate ..... the absolute 100% most endurance part of the whole structure. The floor ..... replaced by myself withe a floating floor after a year as dampness was already creeping through was a dry as a nuns xxx when I lifted it this week. I added ventilation after a year as wellas black mould was creeping up the walls due to condensation. Believe me ...... you would not have liked this in your garden. I nursed it along to try and get part of the £ 2800.00 value that I paid for it at the time. My new one you can more than double that but with experience ...... this will last until I pop my clogs ..... 10 to 20 years .... I'll be content. toto
So .... nothing really done tonight. A well deserved night off and back to it tomorrow night dismantling the last of the floor framing. I'm having a swatch online for decent branded twin sockets with built in USB charge points. Preferably MK or Ashley. ( about 4 or so ) Also looking for vent kits comprising external andinternal louvre plates with adjoining plastic ( solid ) connecting pipe. Probably about 8. Also some 4 foot LED batten lights. .... the list grows. I may even fit an electric extractor fan. Undecided on that yet. In. No immediate rush for these but will need the vents prior to sheeting out the inside with the 9mm Ply and also some tape for sealing off the vent pipes as they breach the vapour barrier etc. Never a dull moment. .... and the search goes on. Cheers Toto

Cheers Toto My 14 x 10 shed has polystyrene insulation in the walls then plasterboard, foil bubblewrap on the ceiling, single glazed windows and a typical not very well fitting door. I use an oil filled rad for heat, though have used calor gas previously. There is no ventilation other than the poorly fitting door, and the door being opened when needed. It's 20 yrs old and has many more years left with no damp problems. My house only has loft insulation and old double glazing with no vents, still no problems, it may cost a little more to heat but who knows. I know one thing, many modern supposed fixes do nothing but drain your wallet!
toto
Hi learner, I was maybe unlucky with my last shed but in under a year there was mould appearing and the floor was starting to show signs of damp as well. So I am a bit more careful with this one as it has not been a cheap purchase. It's my last real chance to spend on something decent as it will have to see me out now. I'll go the extra mile and take all reasonable precautions that I can for the best chance of success. ..... here's hoping. Toto
Simon Chaddock
toto The classic solution to floor damp is to mount it on bricks arranged so there is plenty of under floor air circulation. If kept dry and free from pests there is no reason why even a soft wood should not last 100 years.
toto
Everything cleared ...... blank canvass. I have a very busy weekend coming up with my holiday haircut, my sons fiance coming over tomorrow , trip to the vets, family meal out on Sunday and God knows what else. I hope to start my subframes and finish them before I go on holiday on Monday..... that's the plan. That way .... all that needs done is a bit more fence painting ( preservative) before the new shed arrives on the 31st October..... I'm shattered. Full photo fest of the new shed from arrival to luxury penthouse is intended. Toto
Chris Walby
You will feel better once you have been to the vets 🙂 Take it easy as it will all still be there when you get back and limit browsing the MotionRC web site if you can 🙂
toto
I've done all the browsing I'm going to do. No more buying. Motion RC have the most amazing stuff but the guillotine has come down well and truly. The mancave is focus of attention and then flying after that. toto
All quiet on the western front ..... Zante beckons early hours of tomorrow morning. At the airport by 4.00 am for flight at 6.00 am. One last trip to the tip today to get rid of the last of the old shed and that's it. New sub frames didn't get built but no big deal. I'll crack on with that when I get back. I have two weeks to do that before the new shed arrives. Should be plenty time. Looking forward to the break. Toto
Phil Green
I treated myself to a proper cabin as a retirement present, I had great plans for the internal layout, corner coffee table & comfy chairs, central work-around bench, etc... It all started so well... ...but then this happened.... ...and now I cant see the floor where I used to have a Scalextric layout... Ah well. 2 1
