Learner
Hi all, recently bought a plane from Hk (Dancing wings extra) as a sale item.Looks nicely made and coverings spot on. Instructions say to fit ailerons but their already fitted, the gap is much bigger than I would have done (2 to 3 mm) its a 5/6 cell 1500mm aerobatic/3d plane so could this be a concern (flutter). Don't really want to cut and redo unnecessarily, but should I? Edited September 12 by Learner
Ernie
Hi Learner, In a world, of perfect aeronautics, there would be no gap at all, so the less the better. Chemists sell a wonder tape called Blenderm. It sticks like you know what, and is a wee bit flexible You could use this to seal the gap, and your perfect rolls would be the envy of all ernie
Philip Lewis 3
Does the trailing edge of the aileron line up with the trailing eddge of the wing? If it doesn't (sticks out too much which, in theory it should) then I would cut and rehinge with CA hinges to make perfect.

Philip Lewis 3
If the trailing edge is spot on then I would fill it with either blenderm tape as has been suggested or cut some thin strips of iron on film and iron it into the gap.
Ernie
You can do a great job. Trust me, I'm from Glasgow. The tape is nearly transparent and much more user friendly than say sellotape etc. And you'll find a zillion other uses for it ernie
Learner
Was sort of hoping as they're robart or similar and no play whatsoever it would be OK but I'll fill the gap with tape or film, better to be safe than sorry. Thanks.
Chris Walby
Not tried it, but would some draft excluder (single sided foam tape) work. carefully tuck it against the TE?
Ron Gray
TBH that gap will not cause a problem but it may whistle a bit!
Nigel R
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it on that size/type of airframe. Another alternative, you could (carefully) run a thin bead of silicone sealant along the hinge line, to fill the gap. Mask off the aileron first, mind. Stephen Jones
I wouldn't be worried about the gap at all. I can only see a small portion of the Aileron from the picture above, but if you look to the left of the picture the gap is only small compared to the far rhs, my guess the majority of the Aileron only has a small gap anyway.
