Phil I did not accuse anybody of misleading!

What I actually said was  " So don't be mislead by the minority  - unless you want to! "    which was a perfectly reasonable suggestion not an accusation and just a hint to ensure one acts on good advice.

I still think it is wise to advise newcomers / returnees to buy 'mainstream' Rc equipment ( i.e. multi channel ), and spend their money on the equipment that is of most use to them.   I have not seen push button RC used ever in any club or at any show  that I attended in the last 39 years!   Obviously there are some users somewhere but I have never seen it used for planes - articles in magazines perhaps but not actually seen around here.

I used it yesterday and Saturday, as it happens. Thanks largely to those fine two gentlemen and their marvellous annual retro event. It's given me a lot of simple enjoyment and fulfilment, having not succeeded in my first attempts fifty years ago. It would be a very limited hobby if we all flew exactly the same thing.

You've  totally missed the point of my original post re single channel.

No, I did not miss the point!   I allowed for the fact that Bob had mentioned single channel and said  " unless you want to! "     The important point is to ensure newcomers and returnees get the best advice before they invest in equipment.   Every club experiences new members who have wasted money buying the wrong stuff - 'wrong stuff'  meaning gear that the instructors won't accept.   I don't know of anybody in my clubs who will teach somebody on a tx with just a push button.  I believe this is general - tuition for newcomers is almost invariably done with 3 or 4 channel with Tx of the modern stick type.   If you know of clubs that teach INEXPERIENCED newcomers on push button Tx then tell us!   Single channel push button is a niche thing!

Therefore I suggested 3 or 4 channel at least so that not only Bob but any other newcomers get the advice  that Tx with sticks is the norm and safer thing to buy.  But everyone to their own thing.

Looks like you are still missing the point of Shaun's post TBH. He wasn't suggesting that Bob goes single channel on his return to the hobby, he was merely pointing out that in a cyclical hobby single channel flying certainly  isn't dead. The single channel flying that the OP mentioned continues and continues to be popular with ever more flyers enjoying the nostalgia and, I venture to suggest, having greater success than previously due to the reliable 21st Century implementation of those single channel and other vintage systems.

Exactly Leccy👍 Big hobby, lots of avenues to explore and have fun with our toys.

I have a rounded approach to the hobby. Besides single channel models;  1/3 scale petrol, slope soarers  (big and small),  EDF, Electrics of all types, indoor, control line, i.c. sport hacks of all types and the occasional free flight. Never fancied Turbines though.

You don't know what you are missing, I bought one of Wren's first kit turbines, putting it together and spending 2 days balancing it, then breathing life into it at 186.000 rpm ( yes too fast),  no vibrations at all but around 130dB of angry noise.

And the gas, plug and 8.4v battery 'wand' starting procedure, what a blast !.

They were like Pulse jets, at the time, seen to be believed.
