PDB Posted September 29 Share Posted September 29 (edited) Following on from the lessons learnt at https://forums.modelflying.co.uk/index.php?/topic/54056-stik-time-v1/ I'm going to build another small belly landing IC model for our local grass strip which this time will be 3D printed. The design will be based on Precision Aeros Wild Thing https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=15214 , a bit more info at https://www.modelaviation.com/wildthing and will have an OS15 up front. The idea is to minimise glued sections to make reprinting easier in the event of the innevitable so the fuselage will be vase printed in sections joined by formers, similar to this (courtesy Tony Audsley (Lockey) @ rcgroups). The wing will be printed in vase mode too and the sections held together via a threaded insert in each end of the spar. Progress has been slow due to changing CAD program from FreeCAD to Fusion 360 and after a few weeks I'm starting to scratch the surface with it and will design a few models through it to give it a good run, although I'm not sure if I will stick with it in the longrun. I've got a Bambu Labs A1 printer slicing with Orcaslicer and all of the videos I've watched and posts I've read regarding vase mode and thin wall printing with internal structures have been in other slicers with other printers so it's taken a lot of work starting from scratch to find settings which work. I've worked out how to print a wing and tail surfaces however the fuselage has been a challenge but I'm near to getting that sorted as the test sections are printing OK. Printing the airframe in PLA initially but the construction method gives me the option of introducing LW-PLA sections too. Hopefully have an airframe to show shortly.
