DX8 and AR620 only two channels working

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to the RC world and trying to get a skywalker flying wing to work. I have a DX8 transmitter and a AR620 receiver, I have set the transmitter setting wing type to Elevon and plugged everything in. The throttle and port #2 works for one elevon but none of the other ports work. How am I supposed to plug the other elevon into the receiver? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Jonah, for wing type Elevon (and tail type set to Normal) with a DX8 you would usually plug the right elevon into Ch2 at the receiver, and the left into Ch3.

You should be able to see whether the transmitter is sending the right outputs by going into the monitor (press the scroll wheel and scroll down to Monitor in the menu). This should show Ch2 & Ch3 markers both moving in the same direction together when wiggling the aileron joystick left & right, and show the Ch2 & Ch3 markers moving in opposite directions when moving the same stick (assuming you’re on Mode 2) up and down.

When I go into monitor it shows RAL and LAL moving when I move the aileron joystick so it is getting the right signals. but when i plug two servos into the ch2 and ch3 spot only the ch 2 moves.

Perhaps this might help - do you have the full DX8 manual?

Thank you and yes I do have the DX8 manual, I have it all set up how the manual says to. I'm starting to think it's a receiver problem.

The only way I can get more then one servo to react is by setting wing type to "2 Ail and 2 Flaps" or " 2 Ail and 1 Flap"  when I do this it lets two servos connected to CH 2 and CH 6 move and on monitor it shows RAL and LAL move when I move the aileron joystick.

It sounds like there is something wrong in System Setup>Channel Assign. Check that Rx Port 2 is showing Right Ail and Port 3 Left Ail (with the Elevon wing type).

If that fails I'd suggest starting again with a fresh model memory in case there is a mis-selection hidden in one of the Function configurations.

Thanks for the suggestion, I don't see System Setup>Channel Assign in any of the settings. I have tried with a new model but nothing.

No problem. Unlikely to be an RX fault - something amiss with a setting I'd think. If you start from scratch with a standard wing/model setting i.e Thr, Ail, Ele, Rud etc as you would for a normal F/W sport model and all's OK, then it's doubtful that  the RX is the cause of your problem.

All is not ok when I start from scratch... its like the RX is only getting aileron movement. Is there a way to hard reset a AR620 receiver?

Still doubtful about an RX fault........do you have another RX that you can use and see whether that works as expected and therefore eliminate/confirm a problem on your original RX? What you are trying to set up should be quite straightforward.

Not saying an RX is incapable of being/going defective, it's just that it's such a rare occurrance it's vital to eliminate all other possibilities as much as poss.

See page 17 of the Manual (or thereabouts, depending on which version of the DX8 you have):

It should look something like this from my Funjet on a DX9 which has the same software as your Tx:

I don't know enough about the DX8 to help much  - but my first thought was the Tx could be in the wrong Mode.   If unsure about this check that Tx is set correctly to the Mode you want to fly - either Mode 2 ( throttle left ) or Mode 1 ( throttle right)   In the correct Mode ( in the menu ) it should work as you expect.     The throttle ratchet can usually be swapped physically if necessary and it might even be on the wrong side to the Mode in the software.

My second thought was - Jonah said he was " new to the RC world " so  is a flying wing the right model to start RC.   Probably not for a beginner  would be a likely answer.   A proper trainer would have more stability,  more area to see and also be easier to see which way it's pointing.

KC depends on the wing, FT do the versa which can be slow and generally very stable, but I agree with you. Go back to square one and set the TX up as a trainer and check the RX is doing the right things with the TX monitor and RX e.g. Elevator, Ailerons and rudder work to the assigned channels

I have search high and low in my DX8 manual and in all the settings and can not find it.

let me re phrase that, I am new to the world of custom made rc planes, I have a high wing trainer Rc and I build fpv drones. I have messed around with both modes and still nothing. The throttle works and when a esc is connected to receiver it works.

Even when I start a brand new model with normal wing and normal tail the only ports on the RX are 1 and 2 with the throttle and Ail.

Unfortunately I do not have another RX that can Bind with the DX8. I just find it odd that with all the settings reset and a blank model the only CH that react to anything are CH 1 and 2. I even tried re downloading the software for the DX8 but still nothing.

Good Morning

a) can you post a picture of your transmitter please

b) is the AR620 new?

c) are you saying only 2 of the 6 ports work? Or just 2 of the 3 you are trying to use?

d) do you belong to a club?

Just going to ask the same question.

Only thing i can really think of at this point is damage to rx. The servo monitor has told you the tx is sending something to the unresponsive channels.

+1 please. There are several different versions of the Dx8. If you cannot post a picture which of these does it look like?

Hold down the scroll wheel whilst you switch on. 'System Setup' should appear and 'Channel Assignment' should be the 7th item on the list (may vary slightly depending on your firmware version).

I have the first one. In system setup there is no Channel Assignment, the closest thing is switch select but that only selects what switch does what.

I am not sure how to add pictures to here but the first one is the one I have. the AR620 is not new but I have used it multiple times with drones and rc cars and it worked just fine. I'm saying out of all the ports only port 1 works for throttle and port 2 works for Ail and port 6 works for a second Ali when i set wing type to "2 ail and 2 flap." no i do not belong to a club.
