Jonathan
Hi what size/length rubber band's for my junior 60, I haven't finished the building yet, but looking at the positioning of the dowels in the fuselage I'm thinking there going to be quite long. Nigel Sharp
Rubber bands are sold by their number https://www.bouncerubberbands.com/news/the-ultimate-guide-to-rubber-band-sizes This will help a lot. Once you know the size then you can search online vendors for boxes of those specific sized bands. Usually sold in 500 gram quantities. J D 8 - Moderator
For least chance of wing movement during flight, dowels should be below wing leading and trailing edge or as near as practical. A basic rule for band length is for a length a bit less than wing chord. If building from kit/plan dowel position should be noted there. It was usual to use cut up inner tubes to hold competition numbers or to hold spare tubes on my trials motor cycles back in the 1960s but I've never seen anyone used them to hold wings in place. I reckon, the plan, depending on the version you are using is between 70 to 80 years old. Put the dowels in where it says, don’t reinvent the wheel. Bands, relaxed, are about 80 % of the route over the wing to the band posts. office supply shops sell them, without dog do-da attached. But the "wheel" is almost certainly going to be used in a different manner, Don. It needs at least to be re-considered. IMO it's the weakest part of both versions of the design when used with RC.
Martin Harris - Moderator
That was certainly my thinking when I recreated my first RC model a couple of years ago. A 1960s (or earlier) design with options for free flight, control line and single channel, it was designed for rubber bands but modifying it to fit with a tab and single wing bolt improved not only its scale appearance but also ease of assembly and a more positive location. Jason Channing
Slec 7" bands will work absolutely fine, Theirs no need to reposition the dowels mine and my sons do rolls and loops and the wing never moves out of position on the fuselage, all i ever do is put a 1/16" plywood around the triangle for the dowel to the give the balsa a little more support.

Engine Doctor
Coloured bands are available in various sizes on ebay to match colour of model . I bought some blue ones for my Elf as white ones stood out a spoilt the look. As you can see they still stand out but not as bad as the white SLEC bands. Tip. Give them a really good stretch before fitting on model . Firstly it will detect any dodgy one that can snap when fitting and damage the model, and secondly makes bands far more elastic and springy . Finally keep bands in a bag with talcum powder and they will last a lot longer 2
