Albert Ace
Not got enough time to build the big one: Next build is the 53 inch version. Glow powered, but what alternative to my normal dope and nylon covering. ?? Is Diacov good or ??? And what to paint it with ? Albert
Ernie
Hi Albert ace, DIACOV is excellent, but with no colour choice. It's gone on to my fokker E111 without a hitch. I paint it with rattle cans ernie
David Davis
During the Great War, did they paint the entire upper wing surfaces first then paint the roundels over the top or did they paint the roundels onto the linen first then paint the dark green/brown colour round them? The former. I'm in the process of reading a mammoth novel on Kindle Unlimited about the RFC during WW1 and in 1914 the army were unaware of which aircraft were friendly and which were German. That meant they shot at their own planes until they painted roundels, similar to the French to distinguish them from the crosses used by the enemy. In any case, it's far easier to paint on top of a base colour rather than try to paint round an existing emblem. btw the novel I'm reading is by Andrew Wareham and called 'Innocents at War' in 6 volumes. If you have Kindle Unlimited it's 'free'. Wareham has several other novels and this one is continued in WW2 with 'Innocents no More' plus numerous other historical novels to do with aviation and sea faring.

Do I need to dope the Diacov, I always doped Solartex before painting.? Albert
Ernie
Well Albert Ace, I'd give it a spray of matt fuelproofer, like the one that DeLux do. I think diacov is OK, but its the painted on roundels and all the lettering etc that I'd be concerned about ernie
