Guillows spare parts

Recommended Posts

Can someone help me. I need the plastic cowl for the Guillows F4U Corsair. I have emailed Guillows asking for these parts, and not even had a reply. They have on there home page an international company that deals with Guillows for all items, emailed them still no reply. perhaps it's because I live in Cyprus, an EU country. Can anyone tell me who I can contact, or has anyone got a cowl. Thank you

Chris

Hi Chris

If you have access to a 3D printer, you might be able to scale the stl for the Parkzone Corsair down to fit your Guillows Corsair.

If it's for the larger Guillows Corsair that should be able to make work, if it's the much smaller one you would need to tweak the print to make sure it weighs as little as possible. Or even print the PZ one as a solid mould to vac-form a lightweight replacement.

Isn't there any bottom of a plastic bottle that would do the job ?.

Yes I'm looking into that as well, but they all seem to have the ridge's in them. Thanks.

Finally heard from Guillows and they have sent a list of firms in EU that stock there kits, one of them might be willing to order the spares.🙏🤞

If this is to be a flying model the loss of the plastic cowl is a good thing.  With the round cowl of the Corsair it is easy to cut 2 new bulkheads and maybe 4 lamination for the shaping of the cowl's leading edge. Please look up some builds of Comet models. You might get some ideas from my Comet Hellcat.

Vintage model company in the UK do a nice Corsair.

If you need a look at the plan for the built up engine cowl/nose area, just ask.

Some bathroom product bottles may do the job.

Kit number ??

You know of outerzone ?

I have been looking at other kits to see if I can find a suitable cowl. If not I will try to make one. I don't own a 3D printer.

Again thanks for all your help, it's helping me to get my brain thinking out of the box for ideas .

Hi Chris,

Can you get *plasticard* where you live ?

It comes in various thickness.

If not, how about thin white plastic ice cream containers ?

You could always fabricate a nose from balsa/card, even white foam.

What wingspan/kit number is yours ?

Lots of free plans on outerzone.

White expanded polystyrene packaging and cereal box card is a very low cost and versatile aeromodeling material along with pva glue etc..

Some arts and crafts shop ( The Range, in UK ) even stock Japanese tissue paper in various colours.

Enjoy...

Hi Rich. Thank you , yes I'm looking into all those, I've got some sheets of depron, which is what I'm making the plane out of using the plan . It's an experiment at the moment. Just to see if I can do it. I've seen the depron spitfire. If I can do it I may do a P47 Thunderbolt that I have planes for. The BABYBOLT IN Depron .🙏

The thunderbolt, a guilows relatively large scale one, FF rubber, c/l and in these days of light wieght RC, RC ?

Seen some youtube vids on RC conversion for this model.

Have complete untouched kit so could photocopy balsa sheets if needed. It would take some time as photocopier is a bus ride away, but the plans are very good.

Keep plugging away, enjoy...

Hi Rich. Sorry for delay had quite a few things to deal with , medical , builders, and a sick woman and dog. Need to sit and relax by the pool.

I think if I done another Guillows plane using just the plan I would have the same problem with the plastic parts. SARIK do some nice plans and you can get parts.

The only Guillows model I would like is the P38  Lightning kit. But they are very expressive, and if I get one from UK I would get stung with postage and import duty which would make the kit nearly £200. If I can find one in the EU no import duty but they are normally a lot dearer. Thanks for offer on Thunderbolt plan copy.       Sorry to rabbit on.

See *outerzone*, Google it for free download plans. Local printers ( public library ) can print out to A3, then home printer to manual tiled A4 to correct scale.

Balsa expensive so even more where you are. Foam board/floor underlay/insulation raw material is very useable and relatively inexpensive.

Corrugated card board can be used, some fruit boxes had thin light useable ply sides and ends. Sadly fruit boxes are cardboard these days. Even banana boxes use plastic bottom sheet rather than the thickish card these days

Sunning by the pool, best wishes to the girls, get well soon !
