Model Flying in Mallorca

I've seen three model shops in Mallorca but two only from a passing bus. From memory the first was somewhere between Inca and Sa Pobla. The second was on the outskirts of Manacor and had a beautiful large EDF Phantom in the window. Although I haven't seen one, I can't believe that a city the size of Palma doesn't boast one.

In a previous year I saw a small toy/model shop in Pollensa but couldn't find it last time I was there.

This would seem to indicate a thriving  modelling community but to date I haven't come across any flying sites.

Hi DW, you wont find much information about Model flying clubs and places on the internet, but can give you some infos and would help as far as I can. Just give me a call when on the Island and some of us would pick you up for a lift to Ariany where or fild is located, we usually fly saturday evening/sunday early morning.

In mallorca we have about 5 to 7 clubs, here some of them:
Voltor, field located in Ariany ( island center ) My club.
Campos, field in Campos del Puerto ( South east )
Sant Jordi, field in Sant Jordi ( South east )
Pollensa, field close to La Puebla ( northwest )
Algaida, field close to Algaida (island center)
Termenor, close to Petra ( island center )

I'm sure you are wellcome at any of mentioned fields, but they are not easy to find, so just get in touch. At Voltor in Ariany we will pleased to share the field with you. You will find basic information about us here:
The club in Algaida is privat owned, here some information:

At RC Voltor we fly everything except jets as our grass strip is only 140 m long and takeoffs/finals are space limited due sorrounding cottages a a road.

You will also find 5 or 6 specialised shops on the island, well stocked and not much more expensive than in the UK.

Just PM me or call me on 677 056 782 when here.
Hope t meet u.

Sounds Great Daniel, and a very kind offer, I will be on the island from Aug 10th - 21st and hoping to bring my 450 size Heli, and also hoping on the fixed wing side there is a club trainer I could have a go of too, but just meeting new folk and watching will equally do ! Might squeeze a Mutliplex Microjet in too, if I get it, and get it ready in time! (Still deciding)

I will store your number in my cell phone !
I'm staying in Can Picafort, but know the island reasonably well and the Cala Millor / Cala Bona and Son Severa area even better as my nan used to live there, but will have to look on the map for those mentioned! Hope to see you then !

Cheers!

Update to all, Met up with Daniel last Sunday, and had a very enjoyable morning flying a couple of models Daniel very kindly trusted me to fly, and was very relieved to land them safely. Always more nervous flying someone else's aircraft, especially when he said go on then you can land it !

What a nice change to fly in a clear blue sky too ! I did not mange to take anything due to weight restrictions, but thanks again Daniel for trusting me with your aircraft and for the transportation to & fro your field !

Kind Regards,
Doug.

For Daniel Meurer

Daniel I came across this posting and I will be in Pollensa from the 25 May to 2 June and was wondering if you will be flying at Ariany at the time. I currently fly electric helicopters and will be moving to the Island later this year. It would be good to meet you and other flyers on the island. I will have a car so will be able to meet up with you.

Hi All

A lot of the posts on this thread are quite old, but does anyone have current information on sites/clubs in Mallorca.

I am visiting in the next couple of weeks and staying not far from RC Voltor. I have asked on their website for info but have had no response.

Daniel Mereur seemed to have a lot of info so if you are still there Dani I would appreciate your help.

I am not intending to fly but just want to spectate.

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob, not much has changed since 2010, one more club close to Manacor and few shops less, following the globalised LHS clousure epidemia. I had a little flying break the last 18 months due new job but returning as soon as my flair bristol f2b is ready for maiden. Guess that will be in 2 weeks in Ariany.

Hello Dani

Thanks for the quick response.

I will be staying near Felanitx so the clubs at Algaida and Ariany are both quite close. Do they tend to fly only at weekends or do you know the best times to visit. I am coming over on 2nd June.

Many thanks

Bob

Hello Bob, flying mainly on weekends, att all clubs. You also have the one in campos, which is by far the biggest and most activ of all. In Ariany you will find fixed wings on saturday afternoon and multicopters on sunday morning. Algaida is known for its scale activity. Have fun ! Any questions, just see phone number in previous mail. Cheers, Dani

Hello Dani

One final question before I fly out. I have found the fields at Ariany and Algaida on Google maps but cannot see anything around Campos. Can you give me directions or landmarks to look for.

Again many thanks, and I may be in touch when in Mallorca.

Regards

Bob

Hello Dani

I have been meaning to contact you to thank you for the information on the model flying club in Campos. I visited twice in July and was made very welcome, although in Spanish.

The set up there is excellent, five minutes from the centre of Campos down a well surfaced track. There are permanent tables under a shelter to keep out of the sun, and the flying area is astro turf ( or similar ). There is even a clubhouse.

The guys there were flying a variety of models from drones to large scale warbirds. They seemed to fly in the evenings as it was obviously cooler then.

All in all it made my holiday.

Again many thanks to you and your flying friends

Regards

Bob
