  1. Switching on my DX( at the field this morning, up came a message system hardware fault and voice alert prompting to return the Unit to Factory for repair. Two error codes came up as well.

I almost had it boxed up and in the post to Horizon. Eventually with persistent phone calls to Horizon UK The service manager was persuaded to the phone to speak with me. Oh just hold down the scroll wheel until the message clears came the reply. "Its just the processor booting up in the wrong sequence" If it continues after you've switched off and on again it WILL need to come back for further investigation

A lesson learnt for all of us eh!!

  2. Perhaps I have been to busy trying to manage a club and inspire new pilots to take up model flying. But the BMFA appear to be about to spend over 1 million pounds of members money to purchase 100 acres of land for a flying facility.

No doubt the executive feel fully justified in this and can point to all the right clauses in the constitution to allow them to commit such a large amount of our money to one major purchase.

In my club the executive have a strict fiscal limit they can spend. The members have to ratify any further single purchase in access of this limit.

In my opinion this purchase will benefit the few at the expense of the many.

Clubs are struggling to keep their facility and would like to have security by owning their flying fields. Shouldn't the BMFA offer matched funding to support clubs wishing to purchase their own fields. This would be another way to secure local flying and the BMFA could still retain an interest in the land assets

Again were the rank and file members actually asked to vote on this proposal?

Is this project the best use of members money to meet the future survival of the hobby at club level?

  3. Could some help me out on setting up the failsafe for my powered glider. Using a DX 9 Tx the config for powered sailplane puts the throttle onto a switch to allow progressive crow braking via the throttle stick.

On the Rx (AR7010) the left aileron is plugged into the throttle channel and the motor into Aux 2. With the motor running, and turning off the TX, the only that happens is the left aileron returns to neutral.

Despite re binding the RX with everything in neutral motor off if full crow braking is applied only the LH aileron would return to neutral on loss of signal and or if the motor was blipped at the wrong moment to extend the approach on landing, well I leave the rest to your imagination.

In summary: I thing the TX manufacturers could provide clear guidance for all types of configuration on fail safe settings I see very little useful information in the DX manuals. And I can't fly this model until this situation is resolved.

I need specific help on my topic if anyone out there can assist. And given the the legal requirements could there be some published guidance to help and inform all of us.

If we value the reputation of our hobby a crashed model causing mayhem would certainly make the papers for all the wrong reasons.

  4. I have had to roll back to ver. 1.06 from ver 1.07 firmware n my DX 9 Tx.

The issue was that when adding a custom sound to a switch I was unable to select the switch to assign a sound to.

Tried downloading the new version several times to check for any corruption i download butstill the same result.

Have e-mailed Horizon Hobbies, no reply at time of writing

  5. Agree with all that has been said. There appears to be no simple step by step approach to configuring the flight modes for sailplanes or what typical values should be used. I have a K21 glider to set up on aDX9 and haven't a clue where to start.

Nil point to spectrum for help on this.

To much knowledge is assumed here. (for sale plane)

  6. Many thanks to you all for contributing to the discussion helping me to make an informed decision. I am now going to charge the batteries in series connecting then as a 6S pack. Then use the ripmax device to present the balancer with the cells in series as per a 6S pack. the deans lead will be dispensed with.

  7. I have bought 2 of these units, does anyone know the correct way to connect the 2 batteries. I thought in series with the batteries linked via the charging adapter.

A big no no. Help wanted please

  8. I wish to switch between motor control and progressive crow breaking. By assigning the throttle stick using the 3 position switch (B) . So one way gives throttle in the conventional way, and switching the other way you have no motor but progressive core breaking.

    Any help much appreciated!

  9. Please be aware that RC Shop UK http://rcshopuk.com are advertising

Brand New high quality replacement receiver spectrum Ar6210,,any defects can be exchanged or refund.

I purchased one of these RX together with an AR7000 RX. They look like Spektrum units have Spektrum moulded into the case. I sent the units to Horizon Hobbies for validation.Turns out they are counterfeit in the words of HH.

I shall of course be returning these items for a refund. Just goes to show caveat emptor

  10. Advice wanted regarding the electric setup for the Comanche. The instruction book is sadly lacking in this area of the build. I assume the flight batts are placed in the same location as the fuel tanks in the IC setup. However I am reluctant to start hacking the nacelles until checking with those who may have already been there before me.

Any help hints and tips would be much appreciated.

  11. I too have recently moved home to a location 200 miles away. Finding a local flying club not a problem. Trying to get up to date contact information almost impossible. Even contacting the BMFA their information was out of date.

Club website only provided an e-mail link to contact them. I was informed retrospectively that that link/contact didn't respond he was to busy or the day job was taking up time away from home.

As recalled in many other posts here it behoves clubs to take a look at themselves as new or potential new members see them on first approach before touch down.

  12. Hi Martin I have forwarded your interesting comment on to my club mate. And yes you're right Perkins are no very user/ customer friendly when it comes to this sort of issue as I have found on previous occasions.

Anyway what do we know we are only customers valued for our credit cards!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks again for your input

    Iain

  13. Thanks for all the input guys, In reply to the specific issue I raised I was using a wayy meter to measure the power and the Dragon ESCs were supplied by Innwoods who do not usually supply below par items.

To overcome the fire wall issue I too removes the captive nuts and used an additional motor mount to sandwich the firewall between the 2 mounts

  14. Had a fews days off to cogitate , bought new kit and flew a few favourite planes.

Courier wing back together again, althought heavens knows iff the wash out is the same. put the front end back into alighnment which meant removing the cowl. Not a pretty sight. so just the cosmetics to do . Then it's in the bin or into service with the other toys in the hangar.

    What odds eh1!!

  15. an anyone help with a power train issue on the deuces wild. I am running 2x power 32 equivilants from 4Max with identical 60 A dragon ESCs on 4S lipos. The issue is that the starboard prop which should be set up to turn clockwise (as viewed from the front) when powered up runs for about 30 secs then runs as thought it has lost a phase from the ESC, eventually it stops having cooked the ESC.

Power measurements on 13x6.5 props do not exceed 32A 500W.

The dragon ESCs have an external UBECs but the centre power wire has been disconnected from the RX and each other. The RX is powered from a seperate UBEC driven off the port side battery.

Any assistance with this would be appreciated. I have e-mailed Horizon Hobby too on this.

PS I too found the supplied spinners to be out of balance
