  1. Thank you for this posting.  I was trying to do the same with no joy.  It does work but older pictures give Error 502 and comment saying "try later".  Still better than nothing.  I was look as far back as 2003. Cheers.

  2. Martin,

Thank you for the clarification on the noise test parameters.  We will take it into account at our club.  Our 80dBA limit is a result of a council imposed limit and we do our best to ensure we get no complaints.  GrumpyGnome will be pleased to hear we have been following the BMFA guidelines on how to do the noise test with a calibrated noise meter, but that guidance was not safe when testing larger multi-engined models hence my query.  Thanks for all the replies.

    Nik

  3. Thanks for all the replies.  I would have to say that given that the replies were "opinions" it seems that nobody was able quote a definitive BMFA  method for the larger models.  I agree that the views expressed are all very sensible and no doubt that is how we will proceed.  Our site has a 80dBA limit which does not help.  Maybe it's about time the BMFA did have a definitive method for larger models.  Just a thought!

  4. I would like suggestions and/or approved method of noise testing larger models.  The model in question is a B-25 with 2x22cc petrol engines, span 2.5m and weight around 10Kg.  By modern standards this is not a particularly large model but it does mean the simple "hold it up on WOT" is a bit optimistic.  Any suggestions welcome.

I am toying with the idea of buying a Radiomaster transmitter because I like the red and black appearence, the technical specs are way over my head, but I'm put off by the "steep learning curve" which I'll need to overcome in order to get the transmitter working correctly so I have the following questions for those more knowledgable than me.

You have initiated an interesting thread, but I come back to your original comment.  If your choice of radio system is the colour of the Tx why are you even bothered about its functionality.  You seem to have radio gear that is already full filling your requirements.

  6. Tony,

From your last post with two motors connected but only second motor running.  This would indicate to me that the signal from the Rx could be too low in volts to drive both ESCs.  It works on the first ESC but when connected to the second ESC at same time only the second ESC responds.  Could you try substituting the Rx with the servo tester.  This will, hopefully, give a better voltage signal to enable both ESCs to be driven at the same time.  I have had to use a signal booster on my Spektrum Rx to enable 4 ESCs to be driven successfully.  First 4 ESC model I made was no problem, but the second one I made with different ESCs using same Rx would only drive two at a time.  All ESCs are not created equal.

  7. Martin,

The point I was making about an ESC failure is that when they fail they tend to go up in smoke.  The result is no 5v to the Rx - result is crash.  An ESC is more likely to go up in smoke than a UBEC as the currents in evolved are so much higher in an ESC.  Potential solution is to use the 5V supplies from all four ESCs, via Schottky diodes (minimum voltage drop) to ensure isolation between ESCs.

  8. Tony,

I remember this problem when you posted before.  The advice at the time was to breakdown the problem into simpler parts.  That is use a servo tester to make sure each ESC/motor combination works individually and work up from there.

Motors in pairs then two motor pairs to get your four motors running.  Small steps will lead to the correct solution.

There is one point that you seem to miss in that you wanted redundancy but you are only powering the Rx from one ESC.  If that goes then so does the plane.  It does not matter what the other battery is doing.  I would feel happier with a UBEC.

You have supplied a drawing of your wiring, but can you be sure that is how it is actually wired?  If you build up your system in small steps than you can be sure what works and what doesn't.

Circuits that may help are on 4-Max website to assist in multi engine wiring.

    Hope this helps, Nik

  9. For the third time, over some time,  I have been asked to get a new password as my present password is not recognised.  The problem is I have not forgotten my password but the site will not let me log on. Creating a "new" password seems to correct the problem, but it the problem does seem to reappear sometime later. Why?  I use a password manager to ensure that passwords are correct.  I'm using Safari on an MacBook with a VPN.  Switching off the VPN makes no difference.  Once I thought fair enough, but it keeps continuing.  Please explain why.

  10. Finally found my old drawing of Phantom.  My Phantom - above in Navy colours - has yet to fly correctly.  I forgot to see the movement for ailerons and had way too much.  It was very very responsive and beat me very time.  Also had 4S 2000mA which I thinks a bit too heavy, since bought 1800mA but not flown yet.  Hope this gets you going.

    Cheers.

  11. Winter project was this Trislander based on Robin Fowler's 80" plan.  Motors as recommended by George at 4-max (thanks)  on 9"x 4.5" props.  Used a single 3s 6000mAh battery.  Flies really nicely. I just need to brush up on my landings.  It put on some weight with the mods I did and came out at 12.6lbs, but it would not fit in the car otherwise.

  12. kc,

I've watched this thread grow and grow and I do have sympathy with you, but you are going to have to be a bit more assertive in sorting the problem.  The suggestion of moving the car to a different spot has fallen on deaf ears on account of not then being able to tell if it goes off.  A quick check on my phone assures me there is a voice activated recorder available so why not use a phone to tell you if the alarm goes off.  You will continue to go round in circles if you do not cross off potential problems one at a time.  Garage agents are next to useless at solving this type of problem as too much thinking is called for.  Either you start ticking off potential sources of the problem or the council will act.  I hope this does not sound too aggressive that is not my intention, but relying on the Garage agent is no solution.  My sincerest wish is that you get it fixed. Cheers, Nik.
