  1. Now I move on to the fuse. Its quite conventional in design with 2 side frames and cross members. The unusual bit is the use of dowel. This is intended to replicate the space frame in the full size. I have now joined the front engine mount to these frames and am gradually building the fuse.

  3.   Another wet day so I continued. I have fitted a Pitts muffler. I chose this one because several full size have just one central exhaust pipe   I have fitted the cowl now over the muffler. I still comes on and off without any disconnections. I had to make a small non scale hole the clear the expansion chamber,   I will need to remove more of the cowl later to help cooling   I am intending to have the ignition and Kill switch inside the cowl. Hope the heat will not be a problem. My next task before I go onto the rear fuse is to fit the throttle and choke servos. The tank is already in place I made a box to make sure it stays put. 4. Horrid day so I carried on Trial fitting of ignition.seems to work out OK Cowl cutout looks good, the cowl can be removed without affecting the wiring, The plug cap can stay in place.
  5. The cowl can be fitted at this stage and the sheeting butted up to it later. I have made the only non scale cutout I will need for the cylinder head. I will probable enlarge this to help cooling.
  6. Ii have been making the motor mount, the one provided in the laser cut kit was not suitable for a petrol motor with standoffs. I quite like being able to do jobs like this before the fuse is complete. The front frame is very strong and can be handled without fear of minor damage. I will do most of the engine and tank assembly before I go onto the rear fuse.
  7. Posted by Martyn K on 17/12/2015 13:49:35: Is this the Rot Garner 1/4.5 model? If so, I am thinking of building this next year but with IMAC scale deviations and a revised laser cut rear fuselage instead of dowels. Either way, I'll be watching with a lot of interest.. As you say the moulded parts are available   M Yes this is the Roy Garner design. I will modify the rear fuse I only intend to use few dowel. I will probably close in the bottom of the canopy and use a head and shoulders pilot. It is intended to replace my regular use Extra, now in the bin. My real project is my Scale Sea Fury. Which has been on the go now for 2 years. Edited By Glyn R on 17/12/2015 16:06:41 Edited By Glyn R on 17/12/2015 16:09:53
  8. The undercarriage mounting is pretty substantial. It's 1/4 ply with a 1/2 square hardwood beam running up either side. The fibreglass U/C is also meaty its about twice as thick as my previous models leaving plenty to sand off for a more streamlined look. This front unit seems very strong it still has to be sheeted,I will need to fit the tank in it later on.
  9. This is where I am up to now I will return My Extra 300 build. **LINK**
  10. I bought the plan and kit of parts from another well known magazine. It seemed to fit my size requirements exactly. The first part to be made is the front section with the engine, U/C and firewall. This is an unusual method for me. A jigging piece is fitted to keep the F1 and F2 formers in place then the stringers in 1/4 hardwood finally the U/C mount and reinforcing.   Edited By Glyn R on 16/12/2015 15:51:45
  11. In the midst of my sea Fury build I decided to repair my CMPro Extra 300. However it is too badly damaged So I decided to make a new one using laser cut and pre-moulded part to help things along. Below is the Extra in its original version. I later changed the colour and fitted an RCG 15cc petrol engine. The new model will have a Turnigy 26HP-S petrol engine and be stand off scale.
  12. Another temporary distraction I have been looking at repairing my CMP Extra 300s. I thought I would easily be able to fix it. However the invisible damage was worse than I thought so I will now make a new one before I return seriously to the Sea fury. I may make another thread for this diversion. This is a before picture with a RCGF 15cc engine.
