Mountain flying can be one of the most rewarding flying days ever - dramatic scenery, superb lift and the satisfaction of a possible 'first'. I have had some stunning flying days down in the beacons flying the ridges of Llyn y fan, Fan Gihirych and the Pen y Fan group - the Brecon Beacons are designed for soaring and are also soarer friendly in terms of good LZs. I am sure that there would be interest from the North Walian soaring community for a meet up in the hills (I have always thought the Carneddau to be a good target) I have flown a few times off the top of Snowdon early in the morning before the tourists get up and had some great fun EPP soaring with the local Ravens.
This is a pic of my modified folding Xit on the ridge near Crib y Ddysgyl opposite Snowdon just over 1000 metres up.
Hopefully 2010 will be the year of 'Big Hill Flying'
