Sorry meant to add, petrol evaporates really quickly so it just leaves a trace of oil that wipes off the gloss varnish.

I use Polyurethane varnish, not the fast drying one the spirit based varnish.

Hi John just had a thought ( does not happen often) you can buy ether from ebay, all you need is parrafin and castor oil to blend your own in equal parts. We used to do this years ago when chemists were happy supplying ether in brown glass bottles.

Hi John, i used to get mine from Chris at Portsmouth models but he closed up shop about 6 months ish ago.
Model Technics will deliver by courier but a minimum of 4 gallons so really expensive. I will ask someone who is going to the Nats to get me some, have you tried Sussex Models ?
Not much help sorry but i will have a think.
Regards Chris -

I always thought the engine leaned out a bit as it unwinds in the air, not richer.

Hi all, why are petrol 2 strokes so much noisier than a glo engine ? Is it just because the petrol engine silencer is not as good as a glo engine ?
Thanks all,

Hi all, just a quickie. The fuel in a four stroke model engine, is it pulled in by the down going piston or pushed in by atmospheric pressure ?
