Actually, Model and Hobby World in Lancaster are very good at this iqon, so i can say there is one responsible shop out there, they recommend clubs, talk to the buyer and recommend the right equipment and model they need, I have witnessed this on several occasions, they want the customer to return, and for the right reasons, not because "the plane must be faulty, it crashed" scenario

Ross, online I presume the fact you are using a card to pay for items that you are at least 18 years old?

    Nice one Graham

Exactly, you are assuming I am 18.

The difference Cuban with power tools there are age restrictions on them, as there is with hand tools with blades or even glues, although this is not a restriction I would expect or want to be placed on models of any kind.

I've never had to prove my age when buying various high powered equipment online, especially when I ordered my petrol powered lawnmower. That could do me serious harm.

  3. Surely this is a parenting issue and not a model flying issue/retailer issue.

If a 14+ year old not only feels they could purchase it on their own and have that amount of money available to them then that's the fundamental problem. After all, I'm sure some of the rotary models available for prices such as £50 could seriously harm people also but would you let kids plays with them.

I have plenty of equipment, machinery, tools, various items throughout the house and garage that my son could deem a toy and cause serious harm to himself but I don't give him the opportunity too so he knows what he can and can't have.

A 14+ year old could walk into various shops and buy all manner of things that could end in disaster if used incorrectly.

  4. I have hinted, and when i say hinted i mean pretty much done everything apart from tattoo it on my body , that i wouldn't mind my next model to be one of the following:

    H9 Piper Pawnee

    H9 J3 Cub

    H9 P-47

Surely one of them is not too much to ask for!!!!! ha ha. Leaving the laptop open on a specific website by accident is becoming a little tedious. cheeky

  5. I can only really comment on the Calmato as I have only owned that one.

What I can say is that it turned me from a below average flyer to a much more confident and technical flyer, Its a doddle to fly but it taught me how to fly an aircraft/model properly.

One of the best models iv'e owned by far. Also, its large.

  6. So, i decided to go with the glued hinge method.

I will admit, i was a bit dubious as iv'e had no experience of this at all before but after leaving it 24hrs i must say i think i would be hard pushed to force the hinge apart now. I reckon it would break elsewhere before giving up at the hinge.

It seems super strong, amazed by it really.

I used Foam 2 Foam glue.

I will report back after i have flown with them and see if they degrade over time.

    Thank you all.

  7. Thanks Dave.

No, I have Foam 2 Foam for my models as I know its safe. I just did not realise or comprehend that these glues were both strong enough and flexible enough. I can't believe glue alone will hold a control surface but i suppose that's why i love this hobby, learning every day.

    Brilliant, thanks.

With the servo arm centered aim to get the control surfaces in a neutral position by adjusting the length of the linkage (typically you will have at least one clevis on a thread that will give length adjustment)

Moving the linkage on the horns will alter the throw distance - Outer Servo, Inner horn gives the max throw

Some great advice from all, brilliant stuff. Just goes to show you learn something new everyday. It seems so simple now that it is written down but 'Outer Servo, Inner horn gives the max throw' is a great tip.

    Thanks.
