One of the problems with buying an ARTF is that you don't know how the thing was constructed and I have a small problem with my 64" Chippy. after hitting a rather bad bump on the runway my fixed undercarriage now swings backwards about two inches at the wheel. I'd rather not start chopping into the wing but I think it be unavoidable. I had thought of pouring thin cyano into the u/c wire hole to solidify the wood then putting lots of epoxy down before returning th u/c. Not sure though. Anyone taken the wing apart on one of tese? Can you describe the u/c block? thanks tony

  5. Pain in the bum but I mixed up some 1:50 thinking the new bottle of oil was fully synthetic and it turned out it was mineral oil and should have been 1:25. Guess how I found out the mix was wrong... Anyone think it's going to be worth trying to take it apart or should I throw the solid lump in the nearest skip...?
  6. Think mine would be a Piper Cub or a Chippy or similar. Nice and simple, reliable, good looking in a friendly and familiar sort of way....

  10. PB Are you telling me that it's unisual to use a pair of pliers attached by an elastic band for adjusting the CG? As for a prop.. I thought there was something missing but when I bought the engine there wasn't one attached so I thought........ Next time your mate uses his keyring to adjust the CG I'd recommend using these little doohickeys..they really do work!! Very helpful if you happen to fly over wheat fields..... **LINK**
  11. Ernie, Funny you should say that.... It's amazing what little ahem, problems go unnoticed and it's very embarrassing when they come to light after take of!! bbc it's a Condor 40 kit. Some of the veterans at the club were quite disparaging about it calling it a 'bit of a plank' but I think it's a nice little 4ch trainer. I I did build and cover it yes. This was my very first build (if you exclude the Ben Buckle that I built and crashed 30 years ago as a boy). The only bit I'm not keen on are the blown plastic wing and stab tips but, having made a few modelds since, it would be a vary easy job to make some balsa tips to replace. I don't like the plastic as you can't apply Solarfilm (they melt) and I didn't know when I built this that you could get matching paints (hence they are still white).

  13. Cheers chaps. It was quite funny flying it as I think it might be a touch underpowered. i set it off down the runway and at one point thought I was going to run out of grass!! A very sedate little performer. A few lazy circuits and then, on final approach I throttled back too far and the engine died. It came in sweeter than anything I've ever flown though.... nice gentle three point landing slight hop then down for a roll-in. Don't you worry bbc it'll get a few more outings this summer (well, what's passing as summer).
  14. In my extended fleet of planes I have one IC powered trainer. I took it for a spin yesterday and was reminded why I generally stick with electrickery. The wings, fuse, tail etc were just running with gunk after one short flight. This can't be normal can it? Am I not tining the carb properly to burn all of the fuel? Really, it seemed that unburnt fuel was literally running off the wing....

  16. Unsurprisingly, the way this all started was that Jeb suffered severe depression in his teens and in his own words wasn't bothered whether he lived or died. He took up base jumping and found that he really enjoyed the rush......   17.   What I find interesting is that Jab Corliss has said that he'd oone day like to try landing the wing suit without using a parachute. Now I'm not at all sure how he'd do that as the wings aren't rigid and therefore I'd guess would give minimal lift at slow speed. Any thoughts?   18. GAryG, The idea is that there are no moving parts (i.e. no ailerons rudders or flaps etc). I think he's using flaps in a 'general sense meaning moving control surfaces.   19. Iain, I can't imagine how you must have felt as it started to roll.. Glad to hear that it's all back in one piece. I've been really slow (as usual) in getting this one finished due to work. Hope to get the rear wheel and rudder control fitted tomorrow. This is a bit of a longer job that I thought as the kit isn't quite right here. I've seen similar blogs raise the same issue. The angle of the fuse and the angle that the rear wheel mount sits on the fuse are not the same so you need to put a fillet in between. The screws are very short so I'm going to have to mod the way it all pieces together. If I get around to it I'll post some pics. Having found a couple of hours today and given the lack of wind, I've sprayed my Twister. I need to spray outdoors so I have to find a windless day.   20. Hey Rusty, Sounds like you had a perfect day! Well done and let's hope that it continues like that. (Don't fret if you do ever come a cropper - it is inevitable and all part of the learning process.) As for the GTV - as someone who has been lucky enough to have one I can't imagine you lasting long before a more suitable plane transporter becomes necessary. It's hard to find a car that will do everything. Me, I've ditched the impractical in favour of something I can get a few planes in - as you said, it's remarkably addictive.   21. This has turned into a real discussion rather than a poll but , for what it's worth…. My first plane was built 30 years ago. A 'proper' balsa build with tissue and dope wings and ic power. It lasted approximately 2 minutes. My salvation, and what has really brought me back into the hobby was a Mutiplex Easystar. It was forgiving, it took the inevitable knocks, it glued together quickly and gave me lots of stick time. I can see the point of the poll as it does give some idea of where the hobby is going. For me it's just getting better and better with new materials, new technologies (2.4 Ghz, FPV, telemetry, GF, etc etc) and more people able to join in - even those with no building skill or inclination.   22. Thanks chaps. Lots of good suggestions. I'll go back to the mount first as it's the most obvious and easiest/cheapest solution.   23. I've been flying a Multiplex Gemini with the tuning set and recently the thing sounds like it's going to shake itself to pieces as soon as I open the throttle. It's not too bad at very low revs. I've had the thing apart and checked the motor mounts so I don't think that's a problem. Someone suggested that maybe the motor shaft is bent so I thought I'd give changing that a go. Anyone ever had the need to do this? Is it easy / possible and does anyone know where I might be able to source a new shaft?   24. Tom / Steve, I'm sure it's a lot more difficult than it looks - that's always the way when you see someone who's good at something. Not sure I get the racing bit though. How do you know where the end markers are, whether you've gone beyond/round them? Not a great spectator sport as you say. Pity there aren't more slopes around here.
