I heard the very sad news of the loss of our friend Big Bandit Chris' but have only just seen this thread as I've been away from the forum for a while. I didn't get the chance to meet him, but we had lots of correspondence on our various builds in the past year or so. I had been following his Matador build was shocked to hear that he has gone.
I know we all miss him, but surely not as much as his family and loved ones, my heart and deepest condolencies go out to them.

Hey Tim, I think the Courier looks as good in the air as she does sitting on the grass before the flight. A wonderfully built and finshed model of a great little aircraft. Hats off to you!sparks

I know just what you mean Peter, its down to 27C here midday, and the weekend low is forecast for 13degrees Cee! Darn near cracking the flags with frost! I had to put on a pullover while camping in the dunes last weekend.

Whilst Doug makes a, no doubt correct, observation of what most people do, I do think your proposed tests have value. At least we will all know the truth about these batteries in certain sets of circumstances.I'm looking forward to seeing your results Lee.sparks

Glider pilots may use this feature also I believe to slow prop rotation prior to folding.David beat me to it!

Hey Alan,Sounds like you are still busy! Keep at it, you will get thereI toyed with the idea of installing ailerons, but thought the better of it as I like the look of the dihedral wing. I did, however, reduce the dihedral by a small amount from the original free flight plan.Actually, the Pops' flies really well and with a bit of care on the rudder and elevator can turn as tight as you like without ailerons so I don't think ailerons would give you any significant benefit in flight. It's no aerobat of course, but will barrel roll in its own bloaty way, even ailerons aren't going to make it a 3D planeAnyway, it's your plane so you can build it however you like! Variety is the spice of life and all that ..sparks

Thanks for your comments TD.I was, and still am happy with the Pops'. It turned out alright I think. Had lots of pleasure already with building and flying, with many more airborne hours to come I hope.Alan D - how's yours coming along?sparks

I'm thinking of making something to put the PAW in, but it still runs like a maniac and would probably pull the wings off a Popsie! The little DC Merlin would be better suited if it was as good at starting and running as the Macclesfield terror.sparks

Diesel (DERV . not Diethyl ether) is also good for degumming.The trick we used to do with old Air cooled VW engines, which were known for reduced compression due to 'sticky valves', was to start the engine and keeping the throttle held open, pour a cup of diesel straight into the carb choke. It worked a treat....though everything in the street dissappeared into a cloud of grey smoke for a few minutes

You can still get the carb cleaner. I saw a can yesterday, in the garden section at ACE hardware, for cleaning lawnmower engines etc.

Hey Stephen,Great to see your progress on the de-gumming and test runs.I had a few comments about the sneaky 'wipe' but it wasnt the curtains, it was a pair of overalls or something that were hanging at the side of the door..honest m'lud.a long time ago I also had a PAW 19 too, what a noisy , but powerful beast that was!sparks

Check out Techmoan on "You Tube' he reviews lots of these small dvd cameras, maybe this has been on his list. It does look very similar to one I have had lots of success with, although the case is different.
