  1. As Ron mentioned my battery pack project took a back seat for a while.

I can report that a Molicel P45B pack configured to 7S2P (7s 9000mah) flies fantastic in a 90mm EDF when we tested it yesterday.

I chose 7 cells because the ESC can handle it and I wasn't sure how the lithiums would sag under load. The lithium pack gave me more power and a longer flight time, I landed after 9 minutes of mixed flying and used 6000mah so could squeeze more out of it if I wanted.

Telemetry shows the pack temperature reached about 35c in flight, they're rated to 60c

Field charged at 20 amps using a lipo profile.

    A very successful outcome.

Ron may have a flight video 😀

  2. Graeme, that sounds like an exhilarating flight, well done saving the model.

Have you considered using perspex or similar to draw your visual adds onto instead of foam board? At the right scale and arms length you will be able to visualise it at the field. Better still ask a helper to review your shapes and give you some feedback.

  3. Not sure if these are competition quality but thought you might like to see some photos from this weekends Rougham 2010 air show, all taken from the spectator line.

  4. Andy, I ordered the 5g motor but should have probably gone for the 10g as I will only be flying outdoors.  I will finish the build then consider the upgrade!

When you say "full fuse" do you mean box section build like the intro-vert?
  5. Andy, thanks for the build info and video.  My electrics are in the post, hope to get them soon so I can get into the air.
From your video this looks like a great aircraft to take on our summer holidays and fly in the evening sun!

  6. Hi, I have started to build one too, planning to go with the outdoor wing.  Never built from a plan before so it's all new to me.  Bought three sheets of depron as required and will have loads left over, I even wondered about scaling the intro-vert up.

Tail plane and fin is currently at the glue stage.

Electrics next,  need to do some web shopping.
  7. Hi Roy, like yourself I wanted to move on from my CX2. Looking at reviews I decided to get a Mini Titan E325 or Trex 450.  In the end I bought a Trex500CF! !  Like previous aircraft models I have bought, I thought why buy something only to buy a larger version later on.

I took a couple of months building it following lots of tips and advice on the web there is a lot to learn moving from up the contra heli. Following lots of tail in hovering (the noise was fantastic) and one crash after losing orientation, I bought the Phoenix Sumulator and practiced like mad.  The Sim has allowed me to progress to fast forward flight which is fantastic fun.

All in, this has taken me twelve months but I have been in no rush and really enjoyed each stage of progression.

It handles the breeze better than my electric fixed wing machine getting between 5 and 8 minutes of sport(ish) flying per battery, I have 2200mah, 2500mah and 3000mah batteries.

I cannot claim to be anexperienced flyer but wanted to show that jumping from a contra to a 500 is very achievable. Quite an initial investment though, batteries, charger, radio, gyro etc but they are all items I use for my aicraft too.
