  1. Posted by Barrie Lever on 06/05/2020 14:25:15: Wayne contacted me by PM and asked some questions about the process of going from a JPG to a cut rib? I said send over your ideas are and I will cut you one rib to show that it is really quite simple but has certain steps that need following. The whole process is completed with free software. The laser cutter is a K40 40w Co2 machine with air assist, the £300 ebay cutters if fitted with air assist will cut exactly like this. Material is 1/16" balsa, cut power set to 85% and cut speed is 60mm per second. Any questions then just ask. Youtube video of the rib being cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ypWAXALycQ Barrie, Could you show me that demo another, erm, say fifty times??? And maybe test some fuselage formers for me... David
  2. I have an old battery tester but have lost the plugs etc, which can be re-made easily enough but also I have lost the molex type connectors that allow a cell by cell analysis. (I say "I lost"...I have sons you know...). Anyway, I paid about 2 quid on ebay yonks agi for this cheap chinese beauty so by the time I have bought and made new connectors I will have outspent the original purchase price many times over. Soooo, what testers are out there now that people use? Just to give remaining use I suppose (though this one did balance the cells as well, or so it said). Do nice new units come with plugs and things as well I wonder? \ Just asking... D
  3. OK well this is what transpired...   121g ready to fly and it flies beautifully. Very pleased indeed.   https://photos.app.goo.gl/r6Pow3viVFCmNVxj6 I'd add a photo as well but the system is unfathomable to me. 4. Posted by Jon Laughton on 24/05/2020 11:23:56: Simon many moons ago I Iearned to fly on a Kite at the old ATS school near Swindon; I bought a second hand one two years ago for training/teaching other members of my club and converted it to a tricycle u/c from a tall dragger. I contacted my old ATS instructor who now lives in the USA and he advised that the C of G was 25-30% of wing chord. Mine is set up at 30% and flies a treat Edited By Jon Laughton on 24/05/2020 11:24:27 I may have met you Jon...thatd where I was, as well as at the earlier place near Tidworth. Crashed a motorbike there on the way home one day...
  5. A superb model plane. I taught on these with Paul Heckles when they were first designed. I was very sceptical at first but soon changed my mind!
  6. When will the twin fan model be available Tony? David
  7. I have just used up, an admittedly very old, 125ml tin of dope. The label says £2.70. I have also just ordered a new tin of dope. Nuff sed. David
  8. Right, I did it the old fashioned way...a reel of cotton, some tube, some wire, a bottle of glue and fifty years of stupidity. Enough pussy footing round...start squirting glue... And it works. Of course it works. Thats we do isn't it? I now have functioning RET on what was a rubber FF model. Im just cleaning the kitcen floor then if I have time I will start tissuing the fuselage. Thanks for the advice chaps...spurred me on. D
  9. Posted by kc on 17/05/2020 12:53:21: I know that what I suggested is a complication, so why not use a couple of tiny servos with a tiny Lemon Rx? Weight is less than 28 grams and cost is less than 20 pounds, works with any SpektrumTX. KC, BECAUSE....the rationale for this whole project was / is to use the little Rx / servo block i pulled from an old Whippet glider. I saw that and thought....aye aye, I smell a little project... Thats all. If I don't use the little rx block I've wasted the project in a sense so whilst I really appreciate your input and don't wish to seem thankless, the way ahead is either teeny pushrods or elastic and thread. I had considered the very small servos though but had to stop myself because of the rationale! So you see my point I hope? I'll post a pic of this when I have resolved it.
  10. Posted by Ron Gray on 17/05/2020 11:14:26: For DLG stuff try Hyperfight Oddly enough, was just on their site... Thanks
  11. Posted by kc on 17/05/2020 11:38:47: A closed loop system could be used even with a linear servo by using a short pushrod to a pivoted arm ( servo arm ) which has the wires attached. Yes I know but adding weight and complexity into what is meant to be a v simple light model.. Thanks though.
  12. Thanks. I think its too big for my model. I really need indoor style snakes. I think I will try the pull-against-rubber-band system. My only concern is that the servo is constantly under tension so I wonder about battery drain. A push rod IS the best system. D
  13. Posted by Robin Etherton on 17/05/2020 10:29:19: After having slept on it Ray’s comments in the above post have made me change my mind. Hang the cost have ordered 2 tubes of 35g uhu hart on Amazon for £7.83 delivered. Thanks guys for preventing me going over to the dark side. Will still use the all purpose glue for parts where sanding is not involved. Its cheap compared to cyano
  14. I saw those but couldnt see a diameter. It cant be 3mm can it?
  15. Thanks. That would do. As for closed loop...cant use that exactly because using linear servos. Ptfe tube would do. Are the rods sub mm? Maybe 1/2 mm? I've used em but never mic'd them D
  16. Thanks guys. In fact the model.is so light weight I might try the old pull-against-a-rubber-band system. Thanks chaps....all good stuff again D
  17. I'm after a couple of very fine snakes, to control surfaces on a lightweight ff conversion. Trouble is if I Google or search ebay for fine lightweight rc snakes...I get adverts for, erm, sssssnakes. Anyone know where to mail order these very fine dandies?? D
  18. Thanks. Mine had the X graphic so I thought I ws ok. Then I thought I wasnt. Seems I just had the rx and tx too close together to bind.
  19. Embarrassing really. I thought I'd got wrong mod because it wouldnt bind. This was supported by the short memory with no modulation change item. Seems this latter is the modern type...old dam not legal now. Also seems that I was too close to the rx when binding, hence the issue. Once ONE item was resolved the other made sense. I also called nexus models for advice thaNks chaps . Easy really... D
  20. Im trying to use the little receiver block I had in my USM Whippet in a small rubber power conversion but the orange DSM tx I have is faulty. No probs, thinks I, and I found a DX6i - DSM2, DSMx...that will do. Ive got it home (second hand, fair enough) and whereas the manual online says I can chnge modulation between DSM2 and DSM or whatever, I cant. The modulation change is in a 14 point menu whereas mine has a 12 point menu. Clearly I have an older model...which is annoying because I know the Dx6 wouldnt do what I want but was sure the 6i would. But it seems I hve wasted my cash. Anyone offer a glimmer of hope? David
  21. Thanks guys. I always used to use the stuff but as time went on and the models became bigger, usual story. But having just built a WW Sapphire for RC conversion and I still used cyano and white glue I started wondering why I wasnt building it the old way. I never had structural failures as a kid from my rubber models... I suppose its laziness...I have the pva and cyano, so... I might try some balsa cement ext model on the board though. Thanks again d
