  1. Been looking at aquiring one of these myself, seen them for £55 for a good size cub artf, complete bargain i think. I have also heard good reports about them. If i do buy one it will get electrified though :P Good luck with the plane Smiles and i hope you enjoy many happy hours of flight time with it. Make sure also to find a club, not the sort of plane to teach yourself with!
  2. Cool Andy glad to here it! We do after all subscribe to the best RC Aircraft mag available  Looking again at the Ultimate plan and reading the accompanying article a lot of it sounds like a foreign language to me. sigh... oh well i will get my parts traced and cut out then worry about how to put it together.  Cheers again for the info guys
  3. Hi guys thanks for all the replies, i can see that photo copies of each side would probably be the way to go. I have a local copy shop so i am pretty sure they can do the size ok, will get it done and let you all know how things go. Ron i find Robot Birds to be the most convenient way  for me to get it, 8mm seems to be the thickest they do though so the Ultimate will be made with that Pictures of you Tiger Moth would be nice to see to Ron  Peter that plan you used for the Precedent sounds like it was kinda "Half A**ed" put together. Expecting the user to produce a reversed image of a wing is a little extreme imo.
  4. Ok guys i am relativley new to the  hobby, i had been avoiding building from plans until this morning when the new RCM&E dropped through my door. I really feel i have no choice but to (try to) build the foam Ultimate. This is the first ever build i am going to attempt and i have no idea where to even start. The article tells me to use 8mm Epp - ok i can get that no problem. But here is the million dollar question. How do i get the plan from the paper to the foam? This is all very confusing to me which to be honest is why i have avoided plans until now.  I notice also that the plan is double sided so i cant just cut out the parts and then pin and trace around them. I have downloaded a free extra 300 shocky plan in pdf format from (rcpowers.com) this is a cut out plan but the rcm&e plans just confuse me. Please help!
  5. Yes Timbo when i first looked at the cells i thought the manufacturer had got the plus and minus symbols mixed up, a quick net search told me they where correct though. Thanks for verifying it
  6. Got a 100watt iron Myron thanks, i have read that i should use some scotchbrite on the cell ends before tinning is this correct?
  7. Flip Timbo you the man! Flattened copper pipe would probably be  the easiest way of doing it without access to bars designed for the cells.  Cheers Doug and Myron for your help also time to commence assembly
  8. Thanks for the info Doug and Bert, Sadly the Overlander site appears to be hiding the solder braid from me, and even more anoying is the Japanese site that sells only the bars for 1100 size cells, i can't see the 2300 anywhere on it.
  9. Guys could someone please advise me which Battery Bars work well with the M1 cells. There are quite a lot of different types available (except the Hyperion, which are like hens teeth) Cells sitting here waiting to be made into packs but need bars Cheers Simon
  10. Thanks Peter, i nailed the motor problem early by making sure that the propeller was tight. It appears it was spinning on the shaft at high rev's which made the motor do strange things. Simon good to hear about the fuselage being able to take a unplaned landing or two , to be honest i am going to try the servo's on the side (just because im curious now) i will post my finding's when i get it done and tested. I have tried the M1 cells and i can get a triangle pack of 3 in the nose with no problem, now i'm afraid im hooked on lecky power now simply because i can tinker so much with setups.  On a different note i was flying my Seagull Arising Star today, quite windy which made for some entertaining flying. The clean up alone (not to mention all the faffing around with the carb) has made my mind up. I'm going 100% Electric.
  11. Simon To be honest i am not to worried about streamlining, i am not after every last bit of performance from the plane. I am far more interested in getting  good performance and to make it more solid and crash resistant. Where the servos are located as standard is fine if you want to stay with low mah batteries, but if i move them to the outside (sides) of the fuselage then i make a pretty serious improvement in battery space. It also allows me to pad out the nose a little better (most likely place to take a hard knock imo). Also due to the limited access to the insides of the fuzz i could'nt see moving them back from where they are currently located as being very viable. Could i ask if you reinforced any areas of your WD before you stripped it down to use only the Fuzz from standard? I have heard the wing is coverable and some carbon fibre could help the tail feathers, have you any experince with these areas on stock items?  CheersSimon (simuk)
  12. Simon Yes i ment a 7x6 doh! I haven't flown any brushless setup yet, i am waiting on some semi decent servos arriving, i decided while i was at it i would move the Rudder and Elevator Servos to the side of the fuselage.  This means i can stick a big Lipo in the plane or i may experiment with 3 x A123 cells aswell. I have a few of those spare from another Electric conversion i'm doing.
  13. Arising Star, I can whole-heartedly recommend. I am learning on one myself. There is another guy at our club that has an Irvine and without doubt my Arising Star flies better than the Irvine and handles the wind better as well.   That is not just my opinion but also my Instructors and the guy that owns the Irvine as well.   Good luck with your trainer no matter, which you end up with. Just my 2 cents Edited By Simuk on 14/11/2009 18:14:55
  14. 6x4 it is then thanks Timbo. I have a 2 celll on the way to try with the 8x6 aswell.
  15. Ok i hope i'm not boring you all to much!  Here are my latest pic's Propeller on right way round this time  New prop adapter with prop on right way, thrust is an instant improvement  6x4 prop on meter 5x5 prop on meter  Any thoughts? Cheers Guys Simon
  16. Fantastic stuff Simon, really nice to see what can be done with a little imagination.   On a slightly different note I managed to pick up a couple of new props, I also got my El cheapo productions present - dremel clone out and cut the threaded shaft from the motor.   I bought a proper (no pun intended) prop adapter and fitted the two new propellers results are bellow. New Propeller mounting  Readings on 3 cell Lipo at full throttle 6x4 prop  Readings on 3 cell Lipo at full throttle 5x5 prop  Now a couple of Questions, i worked out the above 6x4 prop would give me roughly 8 minutes at the shown 10amps, on a 1350 3cell Lipo. Is my maths anywhere near correct? Next if you had to which of these props would you go with for general useage?  Lastly (for the meantime :P) these are not pusher props and can only be fitted on the shaft one way, can i reverse the direction of the motor to get the correct thrust for a pusher or will i have to try to mount them backwards? Cheers Guys Edited By Simuk on 14/11/2009 16:22:40 Edited By Simuk on 14/11/2009 16:26:12
  17. 96 minutes that’s mad, in a good way of course. I think I will try one of those 2300 Tipple packs. And see how long I can get out of it.   Simon have you ever tried mounting the Rudder and Elevator Servos in the side of the Fuzz? I have seen it done and it could be the answer to my long battery pack problem.  Any advice as always is very gratefully received Edited By Simuk on 12/11/2009 23:22:23
  18. Hmm, I think at the price of those Loong Max batteries I can afford to buy one and try it. Hoefully the GC webiste will get sorted out over the next day or so. Thanks Timbo
  19. Simon   Aha! A fellow Wing Dragoner, very glad to know you are here Simon. Many thanks for the information on the prop size also. I fixed the orientation on the 7x6 and it puts out an amazing amount of thrust, so you guys where quite correct I did have it on the wrong way round (you live and learn I guess).    Timbo on the subject of the 2 cells, I have read other Wing Dragon owners that say running with only 2 cells makes the plane perform almost the same as the stock brushed motor. Does this sound correct to you?   As to the size I have noticed that most Lipo sellers state dimensions which will help me find the right battery should I choose to try 2 cells.   Cheers Guys Edited By Simuk on 12/11/2009 13:38:09
