  1. Recently in the market for a replacement for my tired World Models Extra when an email arrived offering Seagull Models on Indent.

    After agonizing over the catalog for a day or three, the Harmon Radial rocket took my fancy. 63inch W/S 4 cell 7lbs hmm perhaps a little heavy for 4 cell but I took it that Seagull are good models and know what they are doing. Plus having suitable batteries in my arsenal I ordered one.

    I couldn't find any reviews and although RCME did one it wasn't the Radial Rocket (although the covering photo was of one) but the Harmon Rocket which is different.

    Eventually found a "Review" on RC Universe but without explanation these Guy's first flight was with a 5s battery nor did they say anything about it's flight envelope except to say it "looked" like it was doing seventy Mph.

    Next they fitted a 6s and stated it was now doing 80 Mph.

    So for a review it was pretty pathetic. I would have thought that if you are going to do a review you would first go with the Suppliers recommendation? plus provide comment on Build quality,C.G.. Rates and handling. None of this was forthcoming.

    At least RCME appear to give a truer assessment when doing one, but others don't.

    Anyway mine doesn't arrive until January 2019, maybe I will do my own review then.

  2. Just an update for anyone who is interested. Took BEB's advice and programmed sound to work on a fuel mixture channel (A fuel mix on a Leccy is this a first Haha?).

    Got the start to work fairly well prop starts before sound, but got no where with the shutdown in spite of changing the settings. Eventually came to the conclusion that it wouldn't matter what I did it won't help. The control module only goes into shutdown sequence when it sees the throttle at zero.

    Obviously shutdown is solely controlled by the module after closing throttle, it then runs until shutdown sequence is finished.

    At least is it more realistic than before thanks BEB.

  3. Thanks for the prompt replies Guys.

    BEB, Thanks for explaining your setup, I am a Hitec user so OpenTx isn't an option but you have given me an idea or two so will have a play and see what might work on my A9. If I can't I will just use it as is. Have thought about going down the Taranis route but the thought of replacing 20 odd Hitec receivers is a wee bit daunting!

    As I said in my previous post I already have the sound system on a separate channel but found tonight that if the low end EPA on this channel doesn't match the throttle channel the motor will start when throttle lock is on for safety??

    Something else to get my head around, I don't give up on a challenge easily either!

  4. I have an ESS Sense Hobby RC sound system I brought from RC Castle a couple of years ago. Finally got around to installing it in a VQ Dauntless 46 size. Good sound with transducers and an easy install except I haven't been able to get it to enter calibration mode. By connecting it to a separate channel and setting the low end point the sound now starts just a fraction after motor start, but (there is always a but somewhere) on shut down the sound continues for 20? seconds or so after the prop stops.

    Does anyone have experience of this and is there a solution?

    By the way these are much cheaper from RC Castle $79.99 than Banggood $180.00?

  5. A few months ago I was talking to one of our oldest club members about exponential as I was having issues with a model that was quite twitchy even on low rates.

    He asked me what length my sticks were? Because I have fairly short thumbs I had them set as short as possible. He then told me that before the advent of computer radios that they always made the sticks as long as possible which would have the affect of having expo and making stick inputs smoother.

    So out with the screwdriver and on the next flight I found it had made it a lot smoother to fly, this went for my other models as well.

  6. Peter, i have the exact same Turnigy one you link to above for my TN P51 (if I ever get round to finishing it!). Set up on the bench with 3 retracts and 2 door servos it works. Closes inner doors as per the real A/c. Even got it set so one main gear retracts first.

  7. Here's what I found and posted on a thread back in April Robert.

    This thread got me wondering as to what load each type of connector is?

    A quick search came up with the following for constant load of these connectors.

    XT60 = 60amps

    XT90 = 90 amps

    EC3 = 60amps

    EC5 = 120 amps

    Deans = 50 amps

    Traxxas = 100 amps

    Anderson = 30 amps

    HXT 4mm = 93 amps

    Interesting as a search on RC Groups showed a lot of people seem to be misinformed about Deans & Anderson types especially, although Andersons were only one that had a max voltage given of 600volts for those of you flying 3 phase mains voltage Haha.

  8. Erfolg, Just email the photos above include details of the plane i.e. model, scale and wingspan. Bobs your Uncle Callie will produce a great set of graphics for you. She has done it for me on two occasions now by this method, one for my TN P51B from a scan of a 1/72 3 view plus the above details.

    Plus it wouldn't surprise me if she already has the same or similar on file.

  9. Back in the day when it was common to grind valves on auto engines we used to give the valves a tap with a ball pein hammer to help seat them after lapping in.

  10. I'm with Erfolg on this one, here in New Zealand our tax system is of course very similar to the UK because most of our Laws and Taxation system are based on the UK system. Consequently when we purchase petrol for our Internal Combustion vehicles a large part of which is deemed to be road tax. A large portion of this tax goes towards repair, maintenance and improvement of the roading network.

    If they don't at some stage tax EV's who is going to pay for the above? Politically at the moment it is not in the Governments interest to raise a road tax on EV's, if they did imagine the hew and cry from the those with vested interests in promoting EV's as the future i.e.. Politicians, Manufactures, Electricity Suppliers and the Green Sector.

    Don't get me wrong I am not against Electric Vehicles per se, but I believe in the basic premise of user pays and if EV's are not taxed then that is basically unfair to those who do.

    Don't get me started on why our Government is spending large amounts of our tax dollars on building underutilized cycleways!!

  11. Callie's got my vote, have used her graphics several times. Great prompt personal service, pricing including postage is probably the best around. Stock graphics and custom ones have all been on the money, generally only taking only a week to arrive from New Mexico to New Zealand once order placed. Highly recommended.

  12. Hi Cliff, congrats on a successful maiden, I have one waiting to fly also. What battery did you use 2200? I see that looking at your photo of the interior it has the steel slugs in the nose, some apparently had these omitted and it appears to be random as some have had problems getting CG right. Luckily mine has so am aiming to maiden tomorrow.

  13. Gary, if your are going to switch to Hitec, go for the Aurora. I have an A9 and a Flash 8. Brought the Flash on a whim as my itchy finger hit the buy button, I did some research prior too but missed the fact that although it is good radio it is only a reasonably well featured basic starter level set. Not as well featured as the A9. It even say's that on Hitec's site somewhere. Although it has telemetry capabilities they are limited compared to the A9. It is also not upgradable nor has computer connectivity.

    As for the Aurora A9 & A9X being discontinued this is news to me, Hitec have been selling the A9 alongside the A9X since the A9X came out and they will still fill the gap between Flash8 and 16ch set feature and price wise.

    So there we go my tuppenny's worth.
