    That's not really a relevant comment In my humble opinion, but seeing as you've taken the time to post, I'll reply: You've gone back to glow power to have an irritatingly noisy vibrating model that gets covered in sticky gunge, obliges with the occasional dead stick, burns out plugs, needs the carb tweaking if the temperature/humidity changes and needs a hernia inducing field support box. Sure electric power isn't perfect either, but I can't see the attraction to glow if only for the afore mentioned reasons.

  3. I'm not totally convinced that storing LiPo batteries part charged is necessary if they're being used fairly regularly. I always check and then charge mine fully after a flying session so they're ready at a moments notice. Some times it can be up to three weeks before they're used and a couple of my smaller packs (3s 2200mAh) are nearly three years old and haven't exactly had an easy life. Admittedly they're just slightly puffy, but none (to date) have spontaneously combusted. Personally I think most problems are due to careless handling and use.

  4. As a general rule of thumb, cheaper metal gear servos tend to suffer from more backlash than nylon or karbonite gears. Personally I'd sooner spend the extra money on digital servos rather than metal gears. Like Jon, if I want peace of mind I buy Savöx for my fast or more valuable models, otherwise I use Hitec or SD-100/150 servos. Generally you only get what you pay for so a cheap servo is going to be a bit of a lottery with reliability and who knows if the quoted torque & speed specifications are correct or not. Probably not.

  5. I've used Multiplex's own brand of primer and paint especially formulated for their EPO models, and you could try a filler called 'Bounce' which is specifically for foam models.

    Contrary to what Chuck is saying, foam safe CA glue isn't really suitable for EPO foam as it doesn't have the required strength. Regular medium viscosity CA is perfect for EPO foam. Even better is Muptiplex's own brand, Zacki CA. thumbs up

  6. I'm sorry I can't help you Tom, but it was one of the most fun to fly 3 channel sport models I built back in the day (I think I built mine in '88). It went really nice with an O.S 10 FSR up front and was guided by Sanwa radio as I remember.

During the second video the Rafale wasn't using reheat (afterburner) for the whole display, but was selectively using it in turns and the vertical as could be witnessed by the tell tale plumes of unburnt fuel and the visual indication up the jet pipes. Also, reheat isn't simply an 'on' 'off' switch, but is able to be throttled, like the engine itself is, so he may not have even been using full power for very long at all. One thing is for sure, the pilot will have accurately calculated his fuel load before the display.

    I think from distant memory, the Spey powered F4K Phantoms of the UK only had a flying time of approximately 12 mins if they were to fly the whole mission on full reheat (integral tanks full to empty). I stand to be corrected on this snippet of course.

    MaxG, as much as I really enjoy this forum I have discovered that it's very easy to ruffle some very sensitive feathers, and there seem quite a few that are very easily ruffled (I won't even go into the PC side of things!), unlike the more hardened forums such as RCGroups and RC-Network. Still, it takes all sorts in this world.
