  2. Good point. I was belt and braces after a nasty virus infected my computer and eventually killed it. Unfortunately no virus program dealt with that particular virus. I will uninstall mcafee and see where I go. If not firefox it is. Thanks for the help. Steve
  3. Ok Tim thanks Will have a look. I had to wipe the system completely and start again. I am using the latest version of Internet explorer on windows 7. It is an updated version of the browser compared to what I was using before the computer problems. Could it be a firewall issue? I have installed mcafee and avg free. Also how do I change my browser to see if that works. Steve
  4. It obviously works on my phone. Any ideas on how I can contribute to the site from my computer as I could prior to the reboot. Steve
  5. Hi I have been trying to pm a member for advice and each time I send the message the screen goes back to the blank message form and the message does not appear in my sent folder. I then tried to post this thread on the computer and it did not register the post at all. I then tried to reply to a thread and the screen showed the thread but did not register my reply. I am now typing this on my phone to see if it works. I had to fully reset my computer yesterday and went back to factory settings. Any ideas please. Steve
  6. As you can see the ribs are extremely minimalistic in order to make this very light. So far all of the parts have fitted together extremely well and i am very happy with my evenings work. I will definitely ask questions if I need help.
  7. I am impressed so far. I have just got in from the workshop so please have a look at the photos for my progress.   Wing ribs going on (glued with aliphatic) Photo showing a jig at the wing tip holding the wing at the correct height cutting sub leading/trailing edge from 1/8 balsa Pic showing the central section of the wing with jig centrally positioned to keep the wing at the correct height from the plan sub leading edge glued on (I did this with cyano with an activator as I find it easier and quicker than using a slow drying glue) I started with medium cyano to fix the SLE in place and afterwards wicked super thin in to strengthen the joint
  8. If you guys have any comments good or bad I would be really interested to hear from you. As I said i am very new to this but have been bitten by the bug.   All the best   Steve
  9. Hi all   I started this hobby 8 months ago following a visit to the Southern model airshow. I now have a purpose built workshop that i created to get the models out of the house. I have built from one plan thus far (the WEBBIT). I chose not to do a build blog as there were many more capable builders than me doing the blog so I used their excellent work as a reference for my own build.   I bought this kit from a guy who has owned it for 10 years. it is the Capiche 50 by Malcolm Corbin and was bought at the Sandown show (where it was debuted I believe)   There was a build article in RCME some years ago. I do not believe you can still buy the kits any more. They were sold through Island hobbies and I have been unsuccessful in contacting the company although I believe they are still trading.   I have the cnc pack as well as the extra wood and plans. I would really like to get hold of the decal set if anyone has one or can give island hobbies a nudge to get them to answer my e mails.   Anyhow here is the start of the build. I am constructing the wing first and this starts with glueing the wing brace together. The instructions state the wing is built upside down on the plan and the brace is only flat on one side so I have placed the flat on the plan.   Next the half ribs are glued in to the wing brace which lock in nicely (hopefully a sign of things to come as the cnc cutting seems very good)   the next stage is to glue the top spar to the brace. I am going to ase aliphatic glue but have elected for epoxy (5 min ) to speed up the build. Once dry the spar will be pinned to the plan to allow the glueing of the remaining ribs.   What it should look like   Ready to start glueing Top spar glued on with 5 min apoxy Half ribs glued in   wing brace curing Edited By Steven Butler on 02/05/2011 21:20:35 Edited By Steven Butler on 02/05/2011 21:22:59
  10. Thanks. Will try them. Anyone else have any bits they would sell. Steve
  11. The wind has really got up now so no maiden yet. Think I will take the video camera in case the worst happens LOL
  12. Hi guys I have a flair spitfire with eurokit retracts and need some help sourcing spares (Jetline was my first choice but they do not supply retracts/parts now)   They are older items and I neet some T pieces, a fill valve and some threaded caps to go on the end of the cylinders to connect the air lines. I am more than happy to pay for the spares of course.   I am thinking that except for the threaded caps the parts do not need to be eurokit specific so the valves or T pieces should be ok from a different manufacturer I guess.   I would also like a regulator valve to control the descent of the retracts if you have them.   Failing that if you could point me in the direction of a company that still sells spares that would be fantastic. I have some photos of the retracts I have in my album.   Any help gratefully received   Steve
  13. I see your point regards the design. I have just been taxiing about with it and may be I was wrong. The engine seems to pull it about admirably. Excited and apprehensive about the maiden Steve
  14. Hi guys   I have taken lots of photos during my build but not uploaded them yet. The webbit was my first ever build after taking this hobby up 6 months ago. I have enjoyed the build and found the covering by far the most challenging part and one I will seriously need to practice on.   The colour scheme was based on my seagull yak 54 which had a close encounter with a tree a few weeks ago. I would be very interested in your comments good or bad. I will be taking the 'wasp' to the field in the next week or so.   Lessons learnt   1 - PATIENCE (I have a tendency to try to get as much done as possible then rush and make silly mistakes.   2) DONT use cyano for the engine mount plate (mine is now curing with epoxy with two birch spars in the engine bay to add a little strength   3) COVERING - solarfilm is difficult to put on but much harder to take off when you have balsa locked everything (painful bitter experience after the first attempt at covering the wing)   4) TRY and enjoy the build process without trying to rush to the end of it   5) read the instructions first - I am not very good at this part.   Any how I am really happy with the design but cannot help thinking my webbit is going to be a very heavy one with my big battery/ engine/servos etc. It seems a big ask for the little sc15 engine but hey we will see in the next week.   Here she is - THE WASP WEBBIT     ATB Steve   Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 27/04/2011 16:50:27
