  1. So I have now attached the inner leading edge, trailing edge and the remaining spars. I have also had an initial go over it with a razor plane / sanding block to start to get everything shaped properly.
  2. Hi Herri, Great news . Wow that's some amount of weight. I'll remember that when I finally get there! Dan
  3. Hi Danny, No problems - thanks for getting involved.  Your build blog has been a brilliant help to me so far. Between yours and Herri's photos things have become much clearer. I just read your article on covering with fibreglass in RCME as well. I think that will come in very useful before too long! It's a bit late for me to make new ribs now but thanks for sharing that info - I'll definitely remember it for the future. I figured they must be part of the wings strength. I guess I know now! I've made a good bit more progress with the first half of the wing. I will post some photos tomorrow. I'm about to start the second half of the wing... Herri - how's the damage looking? Have you made any progress? Cheers Dan Edited By Dan Sadler on 20/08/2014 20:24:17
  4. Great news Herri - hopefully the damage isn't too bad
  5. Ok so after a few days of not posting anything I thought I should send some updates. Firstly I fixed my fuselage side issue and now all appears to be well there. Secondly I've carried on with the wing. I've been battling because a large number of the wing ribs are bent so I have been trying to straighten them out my pinning them in place and then by wetting and clamping them down for w1. After 3 attempts at this it still isn't straight as you can see from the pictures below: I have dry fitted it for now, having seen a photos on Tony's build blog. Any thoughts on if this is correct or not would be appreciated. Here's a couple more of the wing as well: I've ordered the retracts from Tony at Unitracts. I went for the air ones in the end as they look like they will be easier to fit since that's what Tony's plan were based on. I figured after I saved money on the engine I could justify spending a bit extra on the retracts . Finally the engine arrived yesterday which looks great. I think I might head over to the Nats in a couple of weeks time and see if I can pick up fuel tanks and servo's etc so that I have the bits I need ready.
  6. Wow that's some diet to get it down to that weight . Looks great though!
  7. Decision made on the engine. Found a new 26cc RCGF on ebay for £120 delivered. Since I know that combination fits and works I figured why not. At that price it seems a bargain as well.
  8. Hi Herri, Thanks for that. Yes I saw you had used that in your build, but I had never heard of them before so wasn't sure what they were like. It's great to hear that it worked well in your spitfire. Now I know that I will give it another look. Sorry to hear that you had a problem with yours. It looks fantastic so I hope you manage to get it repaired ok. I've been cracking on with building the wing and have got most of the ribs in place now except for W1. I don't understand how you make sure that it is at the right angle for the dihedral. I saw your photos with the rulers which were very helpful but I think I am still missing something. Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan
  9. Thanks for getting back to me. Ok - looks like a little more engine research is needed. Re my other problem - Tony got back to me over night and solved the mystery. I hadn't spotted that the two forward doublers were slightly different sizes (one is 3mm wider on the cut part). I think you can guess the rest . Looks like I need to cut a 3mm strip and stick it on to the other side and try and take 3mm off the right hand side... Nothing like causing yourself extra work is there!
