  1. I've been giving some more thought to the engine and I am considering an OS GT33. Has anyone got any thought on this engine, or it's appropriateness for this model? I've made some more progress with the build and will post some pictures shortly. I'm a little concerned that F1 seems to stick out about 3mm past the end of the fuselage side on the right hand side currently, but can't see that I have done anything wrong here. I've dropped Tony a note in the hope that he can reassure me, or point me in the right direction. Looking at other build photos it's hard to tell if this is normal or not, but it feels wrong. Will post some pictures later, but everything is currently weighed down under a series of books so not much to see Edited By Dan Sadler on 07/08/2014 11:31:21
  2. Hi Everyone, It has been a while since Danny and Herri did their Spitfire builds (thanks very much to both of them for providing such a fantastic amount of detail on their build threads by the way - I have a feeling I will be making a lot of use of those!) and since I have just started to build one myself I figured I would start a new thread. I'm going to start out by saying that I am very new to building, so I fully expect there will be plenty of stupid question, and probably some mistakes, so thanks in advance to anyone that decides to help out as I move forwards! I haven't made any decisions on engine yet, however I do know that I want it to be petrol powered. If anyone has some thoughts on good engines on this basis then feel free to let me know! I started to cut out the wing ribs and realised when I got part way through that the two sheets of wing ribs were made from different wood, the second being much harder than the first. A quick email to Tony had a replacement set on the way to me from Slec, however I made a start on the Fuselage whilst I was waiting. It also let me put off a decision on which retracts to go for! Speaking of which - other than the obvious difference that the air retracts seem to be about twice the price of the mechanical retracts, what are the differences in actual use? Is there a good reason to pay the premium for the air retracts, or will the mechanical ones suffice? I've included a few photos of the fuselage side so far. I think I am on the right track, although I have found that I had to cut in to the 25mm triangular section in order to get it to follow the bottom line of the fuselage at the start. Did anyone else have this problem? Thanks Dan
  3. Thanks for the quick response Michael. I will give that a go... From what I could see one side of the wing was a little higher than the other from a table beneath it as well so I am guessing somethig is a little off somewhere. A member of my local club has lent me a robart incidence meter but I'm not really sure how to use it and he isn't the best at explaining it unfortunately.
  4. Hi, After a break from building I have returned to start again and remembered why I stopped in the first place.... Wing Incidence. I haven't got a clue how to mount the wing properly. I have managed to sit it in place and get it to measure very close to the same to each wing tip from the centre of the fuselage, but how do I know what the wing incidence should be, and then how do I set it? Thanks in advance. Dan
  5. Hi again. I fixed my last problem by making the former slightly wider and have made good progress since then. I'm at the point where I need to bend the two pieces of balsa that go from the outside front edge to the middle. I have soaked the balsa for about an hour and then stuck the base in place on the outside of the fuselage then tried to bend the wood over a few minutes later once it has stuck. I have done it slowly and carefully but both times I have tried it cracks on the outside edge and I'm left trying to cut the newly stuck wood off again. Any tips please before I waste any more wood and effort? Thanks Dan
  6. Hi, I'm still (slowly ) working away at building this and got to the bit where I need to stick in f4, the wing supports and f5 and got stuck. I carried on and built the wings and tail sections thinking if I came back to it all would become clear but unfortunately it hasn't quite worked as planned. I have got f4 stuck in place using the revised formers and when I came to line up the wing supports and insert f5 the wing supports sit slightly outside the shoulders of f5. I've rechecked the measurements and they all look right. The only thing I can see is that when you look closely at Lindseys pictures it looks like there is something stuck across the top of the first vertical on the lattice below f5. Is there as I can't see any mention of it in the instructions? Thanks in advance for any help received! Dan
  7.                     It was my first time at Cosford as well and I have to say it was a great show. some incredible models and excellent flying considering the conditions.   Here's a few more photos from the day anyway... @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
