@ Allan I do use flight sim - not really good, but still. And I have found out, that this is helpfull after my daughter changed all reverses on transmitter from my Piper. Plane rescued, the only broken thing was a prop, but I would say that quality of them (Top Gun Park Flite 9x5) is... very poor. Engine of course was tested before I took it home. Worked perfectly in any position, speed etc. Worked, cause I wanted to learn how to use/set it, and will need to practise a bit more, but overall condition is very good. I have (I think) everything I need - starter, 10% nitro from Model Technics, spanners, wrenches, charger, even bottle. Maybe I should buy just fuel filters, but as those are not expensive, will do before next ignition. And I know already how painfull is when You put hand too close to prop. @ Eck I have been already in Speedy Models - shop is quite ok, but I would say mainly concentrated on cars. And maybe I am wrong, but I've got a feeling, that shopkeeper just wants to sell, sell and sell. I have been adviced to buy EP Su to suit my engine. I have heard about shop in Lancaster, would like to go there and check out, but as far as I've got a provisional license, I'm restricted a bit:D. And I did not even think about flying a nitro plane in local park indeed.I've got own kids and realize, how dangerous it might be, especially when somebody will fly first time petrol plane... @ Steve Good question mate! And the answer can be only"Cessna was flying me". I did a few flights with her, and she's gone. Have lost radio control and she just flew away. It was a good plane, 1.4m of wingspan, relatively easy fo fly, but I didn't reach that level of skills You are talking about. Luckily I have been flying quite far from houses and she dissapeared following direction to fields, fields and fields. With Piper I was out just twice. First time was ok, excepted broken prop, second time was too windy - I should not even leave the house, but well... park was empty due to weather, I hand launched model, and after 10-20 seconds needed to go a few hundred meters to pick it up and pack to the car. The person which supervises me while driving said, that "it was epic 10 seconds". About the control - maybe I'm wrong, but would not say it was that bad. I can do rolls, inverted flight and some other things in the air, and all of them are planned. Never became confused cause ie couldn't recognize plane position or flight direction. But still I need training and for sure will sign up to the flying club.
