  1. Some artf model brands tend to use a sticky type film which is not very good when trying to re-stick. It also leaves it`s adhesive on the wood when it is removed, causing the problem of replacement by conventional heatshrink not sticking. Dont leave the edges raised and soaking up oil, clean them inside and out, with raw Meth then apply solarlac under raised edge, allow some time to dry then use heat iron to seal. The sealed edges can be "painted" with Solarlac to help prevent lifting

The sticky back stuff can be patched with care, using lowest possible heat on conventional shrink film, low heat as the sticky stuff melts rather than shrink.

With proper heat shrink covered models do the same, the main difference is that it can be recovered or patched much easier.

If the wood is oiled at the edges of the covering a big overlap patch can be applied with some success.

With heat shrink remove by heating the contact surface and peeling gently, only doing a small area at a time.
  2. I have had this experience of peeling covering, not lost a model tho`, and from observing other fliers we are not alone. The Blackhorse sticky covering is not a good experience when repair is required. I had a Travelair which did a lot of flying though mostly after being repaired and recovered with Solarfilm. The big problem was getting the Blachorse glue off of the woodwork. (can we get a swearword smiley?)
  3. I used to get my RCM&E from Menzies, now WHSmih. I have direct subscription for some years now. I have not received any of the subscribe freebies, yet I still get the mag as I happen to like it. I have no problem with a "subscribers only" section on this forum and also no sympathy for access demand for very limited areas from non-subscribers. Enjoy what you have, it does not cost anything.
  4. I am sorry that once again I could not make it to Keilder. Maybe sometime. Loch Earn will be my first this year. I had hoped to have a Northstar built in time but it looks doubtful, so it will be old favourites, the ARC Ready and the Seamaster.
  5. Pleased you said that David, I could not find it either. Was beginning to agree with herself,,,,,Old Fogey.

Something else I cant find, the freeby for subscribing to the Mag. Not that that was the reason for subscribing.
  6. I had the same also on TWO J'en.56. The needle valves are a poor fit in the barrel, Just Engines replaced the "o" rings and got them working. Still poor adjustment due to the poor fit. Newer ones may be better.

I also had this on an Irvine .53, the "O" ring in the carb body had some perishing, a new ring cured it. Check the seals.
  7. I am sorry I do not know the detail. The articles I remember were about type approval under more recent EU regulations. If you can get a copy of the original certification it is likely still valid for your TX, although getting the Tx checked would perhaps be worthwhile to you. I believe that you are correct in that some universities do technical work in relation to type compliance. Talk to one or more. Interesting question this.
  8. From different articles about a lot of other equipment "Type approval" is a complex and very expensive thing to aquire. I doubt you would find any firm accredited to do this who would be willing to do it. If I REALLY wanted to use such a set I would get it checked/sorted by a firm current in communication and control radio. Castle Electronics is one which I have used for Amateur Radio. Will still cost more than practical worth though.
  9. Last year I took a pal to Aviemore for a three day "intensive". With me in instructor mode him on the slave tranny, his Arising star went,,,,, rapidly into stony ground. I always close the aerial from the bottom segments, I can only remember closing three. Will always wonder????

Ten days later using the Arising star I had for possible instructing, him on the slave tx, I did the take off, and one circuit then passing control over. Then the model did, SPLATT.

The brand new rx battery in my new model, checked and topped up on the field had failed. Two new models, blooooo,, el.
  10. Hi Mike, I have already mentioned the clubs local to Inverness, that have a presence on the SAA site plus one other that does not. I would be delighted if the Inverness area could get a good going club with a reasonable flying site. I passed my bronze at Dingwall and am a member of Dallachy and Cairngorm as well as my local Fort William one.

I hope ERFOLG enjoys his visits to the Inverness area.

    Bob
  11. Peter, have a look at the SAA site, most of this years events are on it. We have nothing to compare to the big English events, as mentioned, population (dense or not) has something to do with it. See you at some of the ones we have, Splash-in at Loch Earn then Machrihanish funfly. We make up for lack of numbers by being such nice guys.
  12. Working Airfields are out, a no go!
Old Airfields, near Dingwall and Tain are council controlled, again no go! Might interfere with oil Moguls grabbing a once a year free landing.

    Dallachy is an old airfield.

The guys I know, at or close to Inverness, say cannot get anywhere local. Perhaps not trying hard enough.

I was forgetting the guys at Invergordon, I do not have thier exact location. The Dingwall model shop would know. Still not CLOSE to inverness tho`.
  13. I have seen Sundeala mentioned fairly often. I went to a local builders recently and priced a sheet of the only size and grade they supply, £42:50 for an 8ft x 4ft x 3/4 inch. I am still thinking on it.
  14. The main organisations should be pushing for better recognition by all levels of government. Observation over the years in other concerns, points out that pester-power from a LOT of individuals to ALL elected representatives seems to have a greater effect. Lack of, do it, do it now, do it again, is what keeps defeating any hope of gaining sensible protection from attacks on our hobby.

A get together by BMFA, SAA, and other hobby groups who need space and freedom from complaints of noise and developement, when neighbours MOVE IN, would be the best pressure means. Nobody seems interested in helping themselves by DOING.
  15. Note to the MODERATORS. Scotland has the SAA. The BMFA are polite enough to point Scottish enquiries to the SAA. Why can this not get through to,,,,,,,,

Q, are you a member of the BMFA tick yes/no says the blurb.
  16. I have

    1 CML Fellowship, good condition
1 CML Fellowship, engine to remount
    Flair Passion, 3d style
    Wot4
    Electric Zagi
    Slope Zagi
    Electric glider "Topic"
    Electric Alienator, still to fly
    ARC Ready2 on floats
    Seamaster Waterplane
Ripmax Nova, old, rebuilt, still flyable
    27mHz foamy, good laugh
Two kits, in the boxes. Another one on the bench 1/2 built
  17. That was one of the better Model Flying programes. Neat, straightforward, and not overloaded with LOUD MUZAK. The winner showed good ability, even when not having had much practice. The cost of competitive models at this type of contesting must put a lot of very good pilots off though.
