  1. Since about '48 I'd been making /trying to make cardboard and matches planes. Dad bought me an all balsa stick rubber plane . It did fly , This whetted my appetite and went through all the Jasco types of gliders and rubbers I could. Then various all sheet kits. About age 9 I struggled solo through a KK Hurricane. Only tissue I could get was what the bakery had to cover bread when sold Dead heavy .Flew like a brick but was recognisable. I then did a chippie which turned out very well covered with light Modelspan stuck on with flour paste with drop of bleach in to stop mould. I then bought my first engine. Allbon Javelin 49/11d. this led to c/l and ff power then R/C and the rest is history. Time to date 70 yrs.P.S. The Javelin still runs well despite having to solder the crank nose back on using mum's stove

  2. Due to a few requests this link will show Margaret on our wedding day.

  3. Loose nut? Pick up the machine and turn over. Voila the nut drops out. Run some glue of choiceon it Then usibg forceps /long nosed pliers put back in place and fit the bolt and screw it tight. Allow to dry. Simples.LLoyds ,Boots etc sell plastic forceps cheaply. Also useful for other modelling jobs too..P.S. if you know any district nurses they may let you have some used ones. Local chemists may have them too. As I always say ASK They can only say yes or no.

  4. https://www.minerals-water.co.uk/1l-Diethyl-Ether-Ethyl-Eter-99.9-high-quality-product-Ethoxyethane-Dether-Ethyl-ether-Ethyl-oxide-3-Oxapentane-Ethoxyethane-Diethyl-oxide-Solvent-ether-fuel-Spirit-of-ether?search=ether&description=true&category_id=6&sub_category=true This is the only source of Ether I can find but is a heck of a price. It's delivered by Royal Mail in very well packaged brown glass bottle. I bought some before the last price hike and is patiently waiting for me to get mobile . Most couriers won't touch it but a few will carry ready mixed fuels. As far as I can find the price hike is an attempt to limit the use of Ether in crimes against the person. It's a lot cheaper in some other countries. India for instance but I can't get them to ship to U.K.. Bugrit. Re the Chippie an ex RAF test pilot told me it was better harmonised than even the Spitfire.

  5. I used to use castor oil and soft green soap mixed to lubricate rubber motors. Worked wel A couple of years ago I found an old tin box not seen since t thishe 50 s. Aha I thought is this a treasure or rubbish. I thought on first opening it was the former. Some lovely round section Pirelli rubber brought over from Italy by a cousin of my dad who worked in the Pirelli factory and knew I was an aeromodeller. Sadly though as I went to pick it up my fingers encountered a squidgy sticky mess of perished rubber. Weight for weight I found the round section gave a longer run in general. I would like to try some again but although there is some round section on the market I don't know the quality. Has anyone used any and can tell me what it's like. It seems to be available in arts and crafts and fabric suppliers. Not shirring elastic which is covered (great for rigging wires) in fine cotton thread I'd send for some myself but am not in a position to make a model to try it out.

  6. Here is a rectangular one. A flying carpet. built on in the 50 s F/F. Didn't so much glide power off more of a wobbly mushing descent. Like stable flat stall.

  7. Such sad news any day. I lost Margaret in October as most of you will recall me posting so I know full well the sadness and loss. I never met Dave but he amused and educated me, Even his nom de guerre tickled my funny bone. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Enjoy flying free mate ( even if ii RC) If you meet Marg on the field give her a hug for me. FIP mate (fly in peace) john/one tenor

  8. The Castor oil diet didn't help either. A scarf round the face didn't help much. Many Boche pilots had leather masks covering their face to catch the oil     Did any Brit pilots have them does anyone know?
