Two and half years passed since my last post on this plane! I finally got to the point (having looked at the plane every time I go in the loft for the best part of the last six years) where I thought, what's the point in it sitting there collecting dust for the next ten years - I may as well get it flying or get rid of it. If it crashes, so what? Its sitting in the loft anyway!
So, what's happened to a petrol plane stored in a dry loft for six years?
The fuel was the big worry for me as I know it can go off and clog the system up. The fuel in the tank moved very slowly like thick oil so the tank had to come out and stripped. What I found was I guess expected but still good to see it for myself...

Great stuff Martyn 👍

That’s the point Steve, it provides loads of model ideas to research.😉

That’s a good shout Geoff, thanks 👍

That's great thanks, I'll have a read of that later I still haven't finished my Sbach

Haha! Thanks Adrian, it is great to hear from you. Have you any build blogs I've missed? I enjoy following them. And I know, I just fancied something different (I haven't flown gliders for 40 years!) and more convenient

I know, thats the problem with window shopping! There's only two in stock so we'll see what Santa brings and let fate decide
ps I just realised its your fault Dick - you provided the link to the website!!

If Rich wants a model for windy days it needs to penetrate, no good having a floater (like a Gentle lady). Think MPX Solius or Heron - they glide well, thermal soar and can cope with strong winds too. I have a Radian XL as well John, it is a great floater but it is not great in a gale. If a model penetrates well in strong winds, chances are it will be aerobatic too. If on the other hand you want super low wing loading and a glider that will soar on a sparrow's fart, chances are it will be blown about like a paper bag in a gale - downwind! If you want a model that will do both you may have to buy something more exotic (expensive!).

Exactly, we very rarely have calm days so it needs to be usable in windy conditions. I'm now thinking 100" or 2.5 meters span would be ideal.

Thanks guys. First and foremost I want a soarer, nothing that will thermal and float well - with the ability to fly on windy days. Aerobatics are secondary.

Thanks for all the suggestions gents. I do not want to build one, and the Multiplex Heron appears to fit the bill nicely - thats the front runner!

I would start by having a look round the Hyerflight website to get an idea of good performers and take it from there.
Dick
Thanks Dick, some nice stuff there. But I've got enough building, I need something that will get into the air quickly!

This looks good but I want something more relaxed and a floater

Hi Nick,
What I really meant, was that it doesn't have to be a beginners model - I already fly. I flew gliders in my teens (thats how I learned to fly) and I haven't flown them since - 40 years ago!
So, I just fancied getting another. I had a Ripmax Pheonix (??) in my teens and that was great flyer, however, it didn't have ailerons and it didn't have electric power - I used to fly off a bungee.
I'm thinking £250-£300 if possible
Cheers

Hi there,
I haven’t posted for a while. COVID has meant that I haven’t touched my models for a year but I’m back with a vengeance!!! I hope all members are keeping well.
I’m looking for a good electric powered thermal soarer, any ideas? ATF and not too expensive. And a good performer. Something advanced is fine.
thanks and merry Christmas!

Header and cannister is a lot more effective but obviously take up a lot more room. HK used to sell them pretty cheap too.

Great skills Mark

Wow, brilliant job Ron 👍

I am happy to supply a copy and/or upload to Outerzone, but how do I do it?

Number 2 generally. I have often maddened in the past without finishing and fitting the cowl.

Nice Tim, good luck with the maiden.

That’s great Nigel, and cracking photos

This is not unusual at all, I have a few models that are NLA and spares are impossible to find, very annoying but that’s how it is with a lot of models.

The clunk line is unbelievable, as stiff as a board! The bung appears to be the wrong colour and has gone solid. Thankfully, the carb appears to be clear and ok. I've ordered a new clunk line that apparently will not harden, and a new bung. I will replace all fuel lines.
Other issues include the plastic control surface clevices become brittle and breaking - they are all being replaced.
The batteries have both taken a full charge and are showing great voltage! That's a shocker!
