  1. Good morning Bill. Yes I do agree with you regarding the flexible tail. What you can do is to sheet the tail-plane with 1.5mm balsa from the underneath. I had this problem with my 63" Corsair (ASP 91). Even the Seagull 40 size Spitfire has the same problem.  Me and my son try to fly it as smooth as possible and use the throttle quite alot. No powered dives. On mine, fin and tail-plane are epoxied. What's good is that you can sheet the tail-plane without adding weight since you had to add weight at the back.  As you said, have some strenght without adding unnecessary weight. Is yours tricycle or tail-dragger? Mine is tail-dragger.  The nose can be an inch or two shorther.  What I recommend is the Irvine 39 which is ideal, light and very powerfull.
  2. Dear John, I'm really sorry about your kit. Last Sunday me and my son did 10 flights and encountered no problems apart from 2 dead-sticks. As I said mine got TT40 and normal Futaba equipment. It must be flown gently and use of the throttle is a must even because the fuel tank is small. This is not a racer. No covering came apart and no nuts were missing. All piano wire are up to their job, the right lenght and thickness. I don't know what more to say apart from the fact that although this is a RTF model, it never ends up exactly the same.  At my flying club the Thunder Tigre Easy Trainer is the most popular. Somethimes we had 6 of them flying at the same time and if you look at each and every one you will find differences. A friend of mine after wrecking his TT Easy Trainer I suggested to go for the Irvine Tutor and he took 2 weeks to put it together plus lots of telephone calls, daily home visits and much more. When I asked another modeller about his Tutor he said that he encountered no problems what so ever. Therefore it differs from 1 person to another. I hope you solve all problems and have fun with it now that summer is comming.

  4. Good morning all, Yesterday I took it to the flying site. The weather was sunny with no clouds and hot.  A friend of mine who usualy flies Uno Wot and TT Easy Trainer came and asked him to come out with me and flies the Wot trainer. I wanted to know what an unexperienced pilot thinks about it. He enjoyed the flight saying that it makes a perfect 1st model. Then I was in command again and showed the rest that this model can do what my Wot 4 can, just a bit slower. I did move the batteries from under the CG to behind the elevator and rudder servos. It didn't make any significant difference. Since I am using full diflections on all controls, I dialled -60% exponential on the elevator in order to flare more the landings. My son did 6 flights with it and he got used to it immediately. He also had to land twice dead-stick but everything went ok.  That's all for now, I'll keep you posted.

  6. Good morning flyers, Last night I decided to epoxy the wings together. I had to take this decision since the wings, designed to be in 2 parts, does not fit perfectly at the trailing edge. The leading edge is ok but at the trailing edge they remain 3mm apart and I'm not risking my nice new model. Apart from that, taking the aileron linkage everytime, I don't like it. The wings are designed to be transported in 2 for ease of transportation but I have an Astra station-wagon whereupon space is not a problem. Hopefully tomorrow I will fly it.   7. Good morning all, Yes I am a Wot 4 fan, even my motorbike personalised number plate is "WOT 4". The Wot trainer is finsihed after approx 8 hrs of pure pleasure getting everything together. Yesterday's weather was very good for flying but unfortunetly it wasn't  yet finished. Hopefully I will test fly it next Wednesday, then Thursday and again on Sunday. I want to show it. With the receiver and battery just under CG, its a bit nose heavy. Only flying it can tell if its nose heavy or not.  Then I will ask my 14 yr old son to test it and have his opinion and adjust its CG (if necessary). I'm looking forward for its maiden flight. Its so nice and big. Have a nice day.
  8. Dear all, I bought one last  Wednesday, the only one in Malta, and started assebling it yesterday. It looks very good and the fuselage is very rigid. Tail-plane and fin are builtup and slot very nicely. Although the instructions suggest that no glue is required, I epoxied the tail for more strength. I painted the engine bay with solarlac white paint to prevent it from absorbing fuel although it looks it was given some fuel-proof protection. The instructions are in full colour and can be built either with nose wheel of tail-dragger. I prefered the tail-dragger version. Looks nicer too. The instructions show both versions. There's not much work to do. The wings are in 2, easier to transport. All hinges are glued. Its 68 inch span and deep fuselage make it slightly larger than the rest (other 40 size trainers). Hopefully it will fly next week. In 100% sure, its gonna be a great flier. If it looks good, it will fly good as well. I've been flying for 27 years,  including 7 Wot 4's. In all I have 46 models. So why do I need a trainer? I fell in love with this one and its a Chriss Foss design. I will let you know how it flew next week.
  9. Nice pictures Shaun.Looks sunny too. For a once, im jelouse. Yesterday we had strong winds and very cold. Today on the other hand was sunny and warm again. Hope it will be good next Sunday. Well done

  12. "Prosit" (well done in Maltese) Shaun and on my 41st birthday. I was very anxious to hear from you that finally it made it to its natural habit, the air. Yesterday at my flying club (Hal-Far model flying association), our president test flew a very similar model like yours, similar dimensions, powered by Webra 120 on soft mounts and JR radio. It also flew great but the most beautiful part of the flight was its landing. Happy new year and keep us posted mate.
  13. Good morning all. Shaun as David said, if the engine pulls and sounds healthy and the cg is spot on, go ahead, open the throttle and fly it. If it was mine, I wouldn't resist. This morning I went flying. I took my Flair Lark 70 powered by Irvine 53 with tune pipe. Here (Malta) temp is 18C and wind is NE3. Not bad. I had fun.   15. Shaun good luck for its maiden flight. Check everything well, relax, keep calm and open the throttle. Make sure CG is where it should be. Its always tense moment. Leave it to gain speed before applying elevator. Never hold up elevator during take offs as it might leave the ground early and stalls. But i'm sure you know it. Once again good luck my friend.
  16. Very nice model and excellent job Shaun. Can you give details of engine and radio setup. Good luck for its maiden flight. Watch very carefully the tailplane as my Seagull Corsair tailplane broke in mid air but I managed to land it on what remained. Perfect landing. Mine got ASP 91 Mk II and futaba hi-torque sevos.
  17. Dear David, I came to Sundown 5 years ago and to wings and wheels 2 years ago thanks to adverts and articles in RCM&E. I spent a fortune since I had to come from Malta. I was lucky enough to meet late Paul Landels on both occasions, plus I had some excellent bargains. Please publish more shows packed with pictures.It also helps tourism.
  18. Hello everyone. Hello to my country neighbour Grahame from Greece. I spent my honeymoon in Greece. It has very much in common with us Maltese. Ian Bottell, the Seagull Boomerang is a bit on the heavy side. I suggest either Thunder Tigre Easy Trainer or Irvine Tutor 40. Both models are very good, much better than the Boomerang.
  19. Dear all. Regarding the veneer which has split causing lines through the covering,has also happened to me. I thought it's because here in Malta we have high temperatures but it seems common everywhere.I experienced, much worse, on my 3 Precedent Fun-Fly models, all powered by the excellent Irvine 36 ABC. Regarding David Smith, it's not how much Wots you have built but how often you fly them. I imagine that weather in Finland is severe while here in Malta we are blessed with good weather all year round. For example, in January 2007 we had an average temperature of 22 deg celsius and sea temperature of 18. We wear shorts and t-shirts to go flying. If your ASP/SC engines throttles better and are more powerful than YS engines, well you know better than me cos I never had ASP or SC 4-strokes. Let me suggest to you, keep the front of the model light if you want to knife edge up and down the runway. Mine are all powered by Thunder Tigre 46 Pro ABC which is light and gives 2:1 power to weight ratio. Hope you have lots of hours having fun flying.
  20. Apart from the Saito, if you can afford it, a YS 63s is excellent. I think its the best "60" size engine on the market. It throttles magnificent. You will not be disappointed.
  21. A good 4-stroke motor for a WOT 4 definitely a Saito 58. These are very good engines and very reliable.
