  1. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all members of this site especially to my great friend Ken Anderson and all his family (a mixture of new and old), for all the support and help which members give to help others. What a Wot year this has been.
  2. Dear Mark, it's the perfect Christmas present ever. I'm sure you and your son are going to enjoy every second both building it and flying it. Friends of mine bought the Wot Trainer not because they are beginners but for the fun of flying one of these magnificent aircraft. Check my photo album, there's a photo of me and my son after complition the 300th flight in just 16 months and that's not the only one I fly. In all it flew 310 flights and stopped flying it for the simple reason that it's partially repalced by the new Wot 4 Mk2 (my latest Wot toy). I've been asked many times to sell it but the answer was always the same NO. It's a ballet dancer with just 4 servos and OS 46LA engine. Once I did 10 flights in force 7 wind, no other model flew. The Wot Trainer is an incredible aircraft and I love it. Good luck and have fun.

  3. Dear all, finally after 242 flights, i managed to break its tail plane. No it didn't break up in mid-air but as I was rushing everything in my car to go flying a.s.ap. At first I was very angry and disappointed, but after a while I thanked God for the mishap. Since the tail plane used to flutter at certain speeds, I was always on the throttle stick trying to keep it slow and never catch up with others, but now I've got a solid sheet balsa tail plane more likely that of a Wot 4 and now, fingers crossed, I believe problem solved once and for all. Test flight tomorrow (see picture).

  4. I'm proud to announce that my  Wot Trainer exceeded 200 flights. Last Wednesday I replaced the trouble shooting TT40 PRO with a brand new OS 46LA. After 2 tanks running-in, up it went. It flew on Wednesday, Thursday and when on Friday I got to the flying field it had logged 199 flights, 1 more flight and celebrations. Obviously it was going to have more than 1 whereupon I logged 10 more.
What a model guys, it's very tough and if well flown, it can turn heads. I'm looking forward for the 300th  flight.  It's to demonstrate that to have fun, you don't need to spend a fortune, a simple good looking model, a simple but reliable engine, 4 cheap futaba servos and that's it. Others to impress come up with all sort of complicated and troublesome models, put on brown trousers, do 1 or 2 flights, and if nothing goes wrong, they call it a day.
Thanks Chris Foss.................next model the ARTF Wot 4 MkII
  5. Hi Stephen, I always insist with my mentees to keep holding the elevator otherwise i shout to them. Somehow they always smile. Good luck to you and  this new member wishing him many perfect landings. Tell him to keep that elevator and never let it go.
  6. Thanks delta whiskey, you were really unlucky. Normally when they crash heavily and a servo will take a hit, normally the throttle servo and if the model got a nose wheel, the rudder servo too, one of the gears will break. But your aileron servo must have jammed at wrong moment. What servos are you using? Do not use it again, leave it for parts. I'm very sorry, I love biplanes, I've got an MFA Christine Eagle, a Great Planes Sportster 40, Black Horse Ultimate 60-90 and the latest RTF Panic biplane.
  7. Ok, let's say it all. I wasn't going to write this but I feel guilty not to write it down. Two weeks ago I was sky dancing my Wot Trainer inverted about 1 meter off the ground when I performed an outside loop, came out of it too slow and low, the wings rocked left and right (inverted), instantly opened the throttle but in less than 1 second it crashed into the ground. I broke the prop and the wings ripped the right hand side fuselage. Nothing series, in fact by Monday it was ready to fly again. Only my pride was broken, luckily only 1 member was there since it was very hot and members prefer evening flying rather than mornings. It was its 171 flight. It flew again as if nothing happened. What a great model.
  8. Hi Rob,
Go for the Irvine Tutor 40, Irvine 46 or 53 and Futaba FF7 2.4 Ghz radio. In my vast experience, its the perfect combination.
Good luck and enjoy this wonderful hobby.
  9. David, I'm sure he is. It is one of those models made to be flown hundreds of times and give the sense of pleasure every flight. He will never get borred with this one. I'm not.
Tell dad to watch for tail plane flutter. No full throttle dives. Have fun
  10. Almost a year has passed since its first flight. It's still going strong after almost 200 flights. No other aircraft can beat the Wot Trainer. It's always a great pleasure flying it and still attracts the attention of other modellers.
  11. Craig I know the Prangster, it's a fun-fly model too. Make the most out of it and as you said there's a personal attachment. I too have that attachment with my models and bring me memories. Take care and have fun flying.

  12. Craig there's no need for a mid/shoulder wing aircraft. I don't agree with your comment "once I've finished on the Spacewalker id like the Lancair". Actually you will never finish from a model. Yes you go one step forward and fly the Lancair but you will never finish from the Spacewalker. I've got friends, experts in flying, since the 70's who have a Spacewalker. If you fly it safely it will last hundreds of flights and most probably after the Lancair you will go back to the Spacewalker because it's a Sunday flier, relaxing. That's why I've got 51 aircraft.
The CMP Lancair is well made, and it will fly as good as the Spacewalker. It's a matter of wing loading. That's how I categorize how difficult an aircarft is to fly because once things work ok, like the engine, everything is fine but once you are in trouble such as dead stick that's when an aircraft shows what stuff it's made of and how well it is designed. I hope i'm helping you to decide. Just keep flying. Remember, practice makes perfect but nobody is perfect so why practise!!! Keep practising my friend. The more models you fly, the better you will be.
  13. Even my box wasn't damaged. Normally the lid of the box would be crunched, an evident that something heavy crushed it but not this time. I called my friend Mark to check his but he is abroad. I didn't forward a complain to the manufacturer since it was an easy job to fix.
It happened to me some time ago when I bought the Hangar 9 Twist. The lid of the box was crushed and they sent me a brand new wing free of charge from the States.
  14. Dear Craig, I thought my son on a Thunder Tigre trainer, then on a Great Planes Big Stik 40 and then on a Black Horse Speed Air. All three models got constant wing cord.  The Quest is a bit more advanced. Its an aerobatic\pattern model, it's very precise in aerobatics. You must know what you're doing to fly it well. Don't rush.
  15. I decided to buy one while I was reading February issue of RCM&E. As I was going to place the order, my friend called to tell me that he was watching the same advert and the same model. I clicked on "galaxymodels.co.uk" and placed an order for two Panics. I decided to take their special deal which for just 135.00 Sterling they include an SC 61 ABC engine. The models came after a couple of weeks and I jumped on mine in order to have it in the air in the shortest time possible. Unfortunetly, mine had both top and bottom left wing with broken ribs. I cut the covering with a surgical knife from the underneath and made a cartoon template of the rib and used 2mm balsa to duplicate the ribs. Luckily I found the exact matching clear orange covering locally. All went together plain sailing, mounted the engine on soft mount (an extra 12.00 sterling), as recommended and after 4 days it was ready for running-in. Last Thursday at 5 I srcrammbled to the flying field and gave the engine 6 fuel tanks on rich settings. Weather was perfect but it was getting dark whereupon I put it back in my Opel Astra stationwagon in 1 piece and headed home.
Last Saturday turned to be perfect, sunny, warm, no clouds and light winds. Started the engine, just a pre-flight check, and in just 5 feet it leapt into the air. No trims were needed. I did 5 enjoyable flights. I put it on charge for Sunday. Yesterday, weather was completely opposite, windy, heavily clouded and cold. But nevertheless, the Panic was in the pits and that meant that it was going to fly. With the 61 pulling strong, the Panic left the ground in no time at all. Needless to say, its performance is awsome, huge amount of power coupled with huge control surfaces, light weight, symetrical wing section and well designed, there are no faults in this model. It''s a complete joy.
Therefore, for just 89.95 Sterling, contact John of Galaxy Models & Hobbies of Ipswitch, Suffolk or go online and order yours as soon as possible. You will never again live without one.
  16. First I would like to reply to Eric. I've been flying for many years now and I always charge my packs through the switch. Unplugging and plugging the battery from the switch can cause a loose contact. I even tape the plugs together. That's what I do.
Hi Colin. It's always a pleasure reading someone's who was here in Malta. George Curmi is very old, I beleive he stopped flying some time ago. John Vella of Sliema closed his business long time ago and retired. In Malta we have two clubs, one at Ta' Qali and one at Hal-Far, which I founded in 1989. I fly at Hal-Far. Last year we did a combined open weekend and invited British top pilots like Ali Machincy and others. Last Saturday my son and I flew the Magic Extra 300 and yesterday we flew the Black Horse Ultimate bi-plane. At the moment I am building the 25th Anniversary Panic which I bought from Galaxy models. Unfortunetly, top wing came with 2 broken ribs. It's very straight forward and easy to put together. I've got 51 models at home including 2 Wot 4s and the famous Wot Trainer. Unfortunetly my son doesn't enjoy flying it. He either prefers a 3D or an aerobatic like the Ultimate or the Lark 70. I like everything that got wings and an engine. Next project is the Nitro Models P-82 twin Mustang which my wife gave me as birthday present. The Ultimate was Christmas present from my wife too. The two occassions are one 1 week apart.

  17. Basildon, you are right. I'm not going to prove you wrong. Even i said several times that its not the easiest trainer to put together, I also said that the Irvine Tutor and the Thunder Tigre trainers go together without a hitch. But, while all other trainers look exactly the same, rectangular fuselage, constant wing cord, ruler shaped fin with small rudder, almost useless, wire undercarriage which bends easily and very flexible, easy to make 5 touches even coming slow because they bounce before they stop, the Wot is out of the ordinary. It's different from the rest, it's not just another trainer, its a Wot. It's bigger with a different shaped fuselage, longer tapered wings (which penetrates better), massive rudder, rugged undercarriage and tough covering.
I've been flying for 28 years now and believe me, there's never been a trainer like the Wot. It's rewarding and satisfying. Let me tell you that i build trainers in my career, all makes, kits, ARTF, etc, but this one is special, very special.
It's worth all the hassle to put it right, it's, as I said, rewarding.
    It's not another trainer, it's a Wot
