  1. I have both the DX8 and the Aurora, and here's my opinion about these:

    Aurora: Very nice radio with everything I will ever need in terms of programming. Large touch-screen makes programming much easier than on the DX8. Rock-solid RF link and a nice quality feel of the transmitter itself. Relatively cheap receivers, compared to other brand names. This is my main transmitter.

    DX8: Feels a bit "plastic" and cheap compared to the Aurora, and the smaller screen and roller wheel makes programming a bit more time-consuming. Other than that, it's a good radio! I like the integrated charger, the backlit display and the ability to use it with BNF models (main reason for buying it).

    If I had to make a choice, I would choose the Aurora, but if you already have committed to Spektrum and have several receivers already, then I think you will be happy also with the DX8.

  2. Just to add to the facts, here's two more pictures. I don't think I sanded too much on the LE, maybe just a millimeter or two thinner than before sanding started. And you can check the front bulk head as well, don't see how it could have been mounted any other way.
     
    It will be a small issue to add some filling at the wing trailing edge, for sure not a big problem. I know this is part of the hobby, and I do enjoy solving small problems like this one! Just wanted to be sure I did not make a mistake at some point, as I was not expecting a quality kit like this one to have such issues.

  3. Thanks BEB, I will check what's left of the wood parts this evening. But there is no mentioning of this in the instructions as far as I can recall. Also, the instructions says to cut the trailing edge parallel with the edge of the seating so there will be no tapering of the trailing edge when I have performed that step.
     
    Anyway, as you say, maybe the best thing is to ask the designer himself.

  4. I'm in the middle of building a Wot 4 mk 3, and have enjoyed the build so far. But now I found that the wing is not wide enough to fit the wing seating in the fuselage. What puzzles me is that there is nothing I could have done wrong - at least I think so! The wing seating profile in the fuselage is all pre-cut, and the wing is pre-built and all I did was to add the trailing edge with parts of the aileron stock.

    Has anyone else seen the same thing while building this kit? How would you recommend to solve the issue? My instinct is to shorten the wing seating gap, as I feel reluctant to add more wood to the wing. The trailing edge needs to be trimmed to match the fuselage, and I estimate that after trimming there will be a gap of about 8 mm.
     
    Would be glad to get some input.

  5. I agree with others in this thread that the build quality is excellent, but the covering is poor. It gets loose very quickly around the edges, and this is especially true close to the engine. In my case, oil from the exhaust fumes started to get under the covering and make the wood soft in one are in the front. "Fortunately" I had my gear ripped off in a bad landing, so I noticed the problem when I had to remove the covering to repair the damage. I have now sealed all edges of the covering with Tufkote, and I only wish I had done it before I started flying it.

  6. There seems to be two reports from the UK where two or even three transmitters (6EX) could control the same receiver, one of these incidents also caused a crash. There is also one similar report from USA, in this case a 6EX and a 7C (FF7).

    Reading the threads (links below), it seems Ripmax believes these transmitters have the same unique ID, or rather no ID at all but instead just a string of zeroes, probably resulting from poor QC at the manufacturing.

    If this turns out to be accurate information, I would expect a complete recall on all existing transmitters and possibly even more delays to the introduction of additional products (I for one am unpatiently waiting for the TM8).

  7. Regarding the access of "subscription only" material, I am having absolutely no success when entering my subscription number, it says my number could not be located in the subscription database. I have emailed two times using the link provided in the error message. Two days ago (after 2 weeks of waiting) I finally received a reply that my subscription number seemed to be correct. However, there is still no explanation as to why I cannot access the protected material. Could someone *please* push a button somewhere to let me read those reviews?

  8. Hi all,
    I think I saw an article in RCM&E about a project where the wings on the plane could be tilted so that the plane could take off vertically. Does anyone recall seeing this article? If so, in what issue was it published. I have been looking through the last 6 months but coudl not find it. Maybe it was in an earlier issue, or I saw it elsewhere... any help greatly appreciated!
