  1. Unfortunately, ill health has caused me to pull out if the event on Saturday. John Morton, along with Sam Wragg will be the UKCAA reps and John is calling tonight for the paperwork for anyone wishing to try their hand at a competition schedule.

I hope that you have a brilliant day, weather looks great and I am sure the club will welcome you all warmly.

  3. I certainly will Frank. Just converted my Supra Fly 60 to electric. It is easier now for me to use that for power. Flew it for the first time last Tuesday. To say I had a grin like a Cheshire cat would be an understatement.

  4. Those who know me will be aware that my health has not been good of late. With two close family bereavements as well in the last seven months, I have had to make a decision.

A great deal of my time in the past few years has been involved with producing kits and foam wings for people who love to build but do not have the facilities to produce foam or cnc parts.

I now wish to concentrate on my own models now without the intrusion or stress of other peoples orders. In other words, I want to relax and enjoy my hobby.

I am therefore not accepting any more orders for wings or kits after completing the outstanding orders that I have already.

I hope that people will be understanding in where I am coming from and look forward to seeing you at events in the future.

  5. With Sunday fast approaching I thought I would post a little reminder to people that the annual visit to Retford MFC is this weekend.

As usual there will be a barbecue to burn your own food on, hot drinks available all day and the usual friendly atmosphere.

As per last year, visitors should drop their equipment off near the container and then park at the bottom of the driveway (off the grass please) and that will allow members to park as normal.

Please bring along your BMFA insurance certificate.

    Attending so far we have:

Steve Dunning Martyn Kinder Adam Collins

Chris Anderson Shelley Redworth Tony Bloomfield

    Kelvyn Petrie

If others would like to put their names below so we have an idea of numbers that would be ideal.

    See you on Sunday.

    Steve

PS Sunday is looking fine with a high of 22 deg, 14mph max wind speed and only a 20% chance of rain. Looks good

  6. Well, what a brilliant day. After a Saturday that saw heavy rain, thunder and lightning and hail in some parts, Sunday was the complete opposite. A brisk breeze, sunshine for most of the day (Sue says I look like a matchstick!) and the field to ourselves, what more could one ask for.

Well, one thing is modellers, of a like mind, who've not forgotten the thrill of producing a model themselves and then experiencing it perform to expectations, offering complete satisfaction in terms of modelling.

Six pilots decided to have a go at the one round competition with myself as judge. It's quite often the case that the flight starts well then one mistake takes your eye off the ball and concentration goes, hence the remainder of the flight is not as good. Pilots who, will fly confidently in front of others at these events then find that the jitters set in when they know that they are being closely looked at by a judge, and others. Doesn't fare well for the thumbs on the sticks.

The outcome was 1st, Minty Morton, 2nd Paul Lacey and 3rd Shelley Redworth. The main difference was consistency throughout the flight, perhaps not scoring the highest on any individual manoeuvre but was consistent in achieving good scores all the way through.

Thank you to everyone for the way they conducted themselves, friendly banter, especially with Adam and his twenty minute flight (throttle servo problems) and an excellent atmosphere on the flight line. Pilots had travelled from as far as Newcastle, Bristol and Watford, thank you for making the effort, it is appreciated. It was a pleasure to be CD for the day. Enjoy the piccies. Steve D

Kelvyn Petrie's Atlas. I have to tell you what it is because he forgot to put the stickers on it that I had done for him! Webra 61 LS for power.

    dsc00321.jpg

Kelvyn with his Upset II. Irvine 53 for urge. Many of these models are now amply powered by modern day engines of lower capacity than those available 'in the day'.

    dsc00322.jpg

Shelley's Illusion. Seen better days as Shelley will admit to herself. OS 91 FX has more than enough for what is a heavy airframe.

    dsc00323.jpg

Shelly stuck to flying her Moonglow all day.

    dsc00324.jpg

Part of 'Team Bullet', Tony Bloomfield flew this excellent example.

    dsc00326.jpg

Stephen Lindley came over from Sheffield and brought three models, a Bullet (background) and these nearly identically finished Supra Fly and a Priory Models Silhouette.

    dsc00327.jpg

Adam Collins flew a Super Lightning and had an extended competition flight due to a throttle servo problem.

    dscf2570.jpg

My own Supra Fly, powered by an OS 45 FSR. Matches the airframe very well.

    dscf2567.jpg

Dave Ashcroft's Curare ARTF, sans canopy. 6S Lipo's power this model. Still in the trimming stage at the moment, this was the only ARTF on the day, quality is excellent.

    dscf2577.jpg

Shelley and Tony enjoying the sunshine.

    dscf2580.jpg

The cut off date was brought forward at last years AGM to December 1995, enabling Tony B to bring along his Cuban Eight 40.

dscf2583.jpgPaul Lacey's Dalotel Super Sport, built from a Dave Smith kit but with a pair of wings from yours truly.

Tony putting the Moonglow down, prior to another flight from Shelley.

Me judging, Tony checking to see how I scored and Kelvyn (and buddy) following closely.

  7. Just to make people aware, I will be taking some items for sale, retro aerobatic orientated, due to a change in circumstances. I would rather these be used than just hanging around in the workshop.

Redshift 61 New bearings fitted, excellent compression.

OS 61 RF Everything is as per Hanno Special apart from the piston and liner that is RF. The piston and liner are virtually brand new, having only been run 5 times in my Supra Fly 60.

OS 61 RF Good bearings and great compression.

Webra Speed 40 ABC Excellent engine, complete with muffler and manifold.

Super Tigre 40 Brand new, no box. Includes standard silencer and a Macs Muffler (new)

Veco 19 Excellent engine, great for Flea Fli etc.

Brand new GRP Bullet fuselage and canopy, will save all that carving. Same as Minty uses on his electric version

Hope nobody objects to me putting these on here but if I didn't, the answer on the day would be, 'I wish I had known, I would have brought some money!!!

    Steve

  8. Updated list

    Shelley Redworth

    Stephen Lindley + friend (possible)

The throw away barbies for burning your food on have been purchased!!!! Don't forget a drink as well, none available at the field. See you Sunday

  10. Bit more progress today. Both tailplane and one wing panel had LE and TE sanded down. Wing panel and T/P halve had tips added.

    dsc00279.jpg

Work on fuselage has begun, re the positioning of firewall. Made it 120mm from front ring. Ample room for tubing coming from behind engine. Profile taken with a profile gauge, transferred onto hard balsa to enable final positioning to take place before putting on to ply. Must remember to make a copy for the rest of the fuselages!

  11. Hi Rich2

No plans, just working from photos that I've seen, general model size of that time and utilising the wing and tail sections on the fuselage. That was fun!!!! Transfered them to onto a cad program and then onto my cnc wing cutter. Took a few practice cuts on scrap foam but got there eventually. Probably draw up a plan for a wooden fus later.

AWflyer, are you going to build it?

  12. Those that were around model flying in the 1970's will recognise the name of Terry Cooper. Terry was at the top of his game in the early 70's and the Bulldog was the design he used in the 1971 World Champs.

A couple of years ago, Paul Bardoe was fortunate enough to come across seven GRP fuselages from that period and passed them on to me. Circumstances being what they were, I have only just got round to put one together. One fuselage is orange, the rest being clear and it is one of these that I have selected for my model.

The first problem was sorting the wing and tail sections out. This successfully done, wing and tail cores have been cut and were sheeted today, using 1/16th balsa. Wing panels came out at 7 oz each and tail halves, 2 oz each. Engine will be a BNIB OS 61SF, with pipe. Terry was at the forefront of tuned pipe use in F3A aerobatics.

    I'll keep you updated. Steve
