  1. Due to my personal problems highlighted above and not being able to have continuity over the two days, it has had to be decided to give back-word on the stand. It is unfortunate but it is not inconceivable that we cannot have a stand in the future.

  2. EVENT UPDATE!

Due to circumstances beyond any individual's control, this event has had to be postponed. I've tried to give as much notice as possible.

PB is looking into re-organising the event for later in the year so it is not 'lost'.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused to anybody.

  3. HELP REQUIRED!

Due to health problems, I am unable to man the stand for the two days at Weston Park. I have informed Paul Bardoe but to save cancelling the stand, would anyone be willing to take responsibility for this event and liaise with Paul accordingly. If not then the stand will have to be cancelled. These are unforeseen circumstances and not what I had planned.

  4. Just done a couple of talks on building from a plan. My initial statement is always that building (assembling) ARTF's means that people are missing out on an important part of the hobby. Whether it is a home design (scratch build) or an established design, nothing beats that moment when it takes to the skies for the first time. The availability of CNC cut parts takes some of the pressure off for those that feel they cannot manage accurate cutting but that does not detract from the exhilaration of building something that flies. Plus, our models don't cost £4000!!!!!!

From enquiries I've had popularity is growing so all bears well for this season.

    Happy flying

  5. The idea behind the tail-wheel design was due to the fact that nose-legs suffer on a trainer, damaging the firewall leading to a major repair. The design utilises a semi symmetrical wing so as to handle windy conditions and a longer tail moment than normal to aid easy handling. Engines 40 to 55 (52 four stroke), 5 servos, balsa covered foam wings, traditional fuselage build.

  6. Although I am not a large manufacturer, I produce a trainer called the Buddy. Over several years, I have produced nearly 40 examples and it is used by both the Retford and Teeside clubs as their 'club' trainer. Indeed, a second is on the way for the Retford club. The current one at Retford had a signal loss and flew away. This was traced four days later to a farmer, 27 miles from the site, having landed perfectly and suffering no damage. New switch and battery and away it went. Below are a few pics of three examples.

  7. Hi Andy

It was a John Palmer design and I reckon it was based on the Aurora. At the Nationals I had a bit of a joke with John when I saw an oriental gent in the crowd and said to John that he liked the job he had done on his design! Made him smile LOL.

  8. Hi Ian

Hanno Specials now fetch ridiculous amounts of money for a good example. OS 61 RF's are a little cheaper and can be found. Check out Puffin Models. The MVVS 77 turns a 12 x 12 on low nitro fuel and before the first run the cylinder can be turned through 90 degrees to enable side or rear exhaust configuration. Would need a new piston and liner to revert back again later.

Enya are planning a rear exhaust 60 and YS have a version already on sale.

    Hope this helps

  9. Before wings were cut with the majority of the aileron as well, the 'old' method was to attached, say, 1/2" sheet to the trailing edge just with spots of glue to tack it in place. The ailerons were then planed and sanded to shape, the tacks released and the l/e sanded to a bevel for the hinge line. In some cases I used to add 1/8" square spruce to the edge of the 1/2" balsa before sanding so as to provide both a hard edge in the final aileron and a means to help prevent sanding too far.

    Hope that helps.

  10. I know that I have started another thread for events next year but this is a bit different. Paul Bardoe has provisionally booked us a stand to advertise the UKCAA at Weston Park. The whole idea relies on having enough bodies to both man the stand and allow people to have breaks as well for the two days.

This does not mean committing yourself to two whole days, but if sufficient numbers are willing to 'do a bit' then we will have widespread exposure at probably one of the biggest shows on the circuit.

If anyone is will to help, could you please make yourself known so that planning can go ahead. Half a day, full day, all weekend, it doesn't matter, just so that some thought can be put into it.

Best regards to all for a good holiday

  11. Some events planned for 2015 have been given dates already. Obviously further details will be given nearer the time but this will give people food for thought if anyone is wanting to host an event. Seasons greetings to all.

    April 26 Sleap Airfield

    May Retford MFC

    June 13 (Sat) Skegness MFC

    September 27 Montford Bridge

  12. I agree with keeping this as our main forum, it would be a bit insulting to suddenly move everything over after the help we have received from David Ashby and the team. Duplicate by all means but I know this is the main area people look for what is going on with the UKCAA.

  13. I don't know how many of you knew Terry but I remember him right from my early days of viewing F3A. Martin Mc let me know this sad news earlier this evening. I thought it appropriate to post it here.

    Hi Steve,
Don`t know if my email to UKCAA got through but sadly Terry is no longer with us. The funeral is at Loughborough crematorium at 1445 on Monday next.
I am sure that many of his former friends would wish to attend.

  14. I did buy it but then the guy reported the high volume of interest but he told people that it was sold (to me). Another asked how much I had paid, Dave said the £55 he had asked for. The guy offered £155. Dave was at a loss. On ringing me I told him to accept the higher offer with my blessing. Dave said 'but I'm going back on a deal'. I replied that there was no problem and that he should go ahead. End of story.

Let's face it, I have another Magic kit, with GRP fus that I can take a mould off so let the guy have the extra money.
