  1. Hi Guys,

Sorry if you have read this before as I picked an older thread by mistake.

Just read your comments as I had been intending to add a post anyway about this exhibition. I made a round trip of 160 miles as I thought, in my ignorance, that this was still the same show as I had always loved. What an absolute waste of time and money and its all in a name with nice profits for the organisers using a 'modelling' banner to capture as many punters as possible.

Now I read in the BMFA magazine that there is a "London Model Engineering Exhibition" 17th - 19th January, guess where . . . Alexandra Palace. Check out the link and note that number and type of exhibitors who will be there, everybody is catered for.

That's what we needed, not a watered down version with a minimum of stands and one radio controlled aircraft in the front entrance. Oh, I was not the only one miserable at what I found, several club mates commented with the same lament!

And dont be sucked in by the psycholigical argument of 'are we wrong' and is it all our fault?

    No, it aint!

Check out the link below for more information. Oh I feel a bit better after that, yes, it was a rant but justified!

  3. Hello again Martin,

Well at last it seems to have been resolved by a lovely lady called Amy who managed to cut through the problems and got it sorted . . . . so far!

Tips (and this may not be the same in your case). Generally Myhobbystore is set up to accept 1 voucher only on an order. My mates had bought me £100 for retirement but with 2 vouchers so I could not use them both on the order (until Amy came along). I have completed the transaction and received email confirmation so now all I can do is wait and hope. Prior to Amy, I had made 5 calls, left messages and emailed to no avail, not one answer.

By the way, yes I know retirement makes me sound old but I'm really only 20, its the outer layer that's wearing out!

Did you get your problem resolved? . . . .Ask to speak to Amy!

Oh, tip number 2 - when it says they are busy just hit redail I dont think there is a que its just a ploy as 0844 number is 5p+ per minute.

    Phil.

  4. Hi Martin,

Ah so its not just me then.

I'll tell you the whole story of my sorry order that has still to be completed.

Currently awaiting a ring back to see if it can be sorted . . . . its been going on now for several days and if I dont get this resolved then its going straight to BBC Watchdog!

    Phil.

  5. Hi guys,

Many thanks for your input and hope I have inadvertently helped out slightly on the Zero issue.

I am still likely to go for the DSX11 but at least I know more about the choice.

    Thanks again.

  6. Hi Guys,

Can anybody help me on this one please?

I have quite a few Spektrum receivers (DSM2 & DSMX) and am looking to upgrade to the JR DSX11 (or so I thought). Having investigated and talked to club mates I was happy until I started seeing X11-ZERO advertised. I have looked to try and Identify the difference but am struggling.

Anybody actually know the difference? I currently suspect it something to do with the modules available (DMSS?)

    Help guys.

  7. Started at age 8 (?) and going strong now approaching 65. You guessed it, just wait until my next birthday no stopping me then.

Oh Yes, what do I like flying? Any R/C fixed wing, now looking at heli's and to get my fix each week you cant do better than an adrenalin rush with an EDF.

  8. For me like many, its a time issue. I am a trad builder but suffer ARTF so that I can get back in the sky quickly. Having said that, even my ARTF builds are considered slow by club mates as I prefer to 'improve' the basic ARTF by small (but to me significant) modifications.
Approaching retirement (but very active) I am looking to get back to trad building as well as ARTF they compliment each other!
  9. Today (11/06/10) I happened to be reading the RCM&E which mentioned that Phil Smith was ill in hospital. Strangely, on arriving at work, a colleague mentioned to me (knowing I was an aeromodeller)  that he was reading the telegraph last Saturday and had I heard of him.

It was a shock to hear this, hence my immediate search here for comments. I never met him but throughout my life certainly knew of him, and, as you might have gathered shared his name.

I have also been contacted for plans in the passt when emailed and had to explain that although proud that I might have been him, was in fact, just an ordinary aeromodeller only.

    I will remember him.

    Phil Smith.
  10. Wishing to be party of the Modelflying fun!

Have a great Christmas everybody, many thanks for advice, amusement and support throughout this year and wishing you all a merry christmas and a happy year.

Please keep up the good work in 2010 - happy flying!
  11. Mike,
Well done on starting this thread. I am also looking for flight sims at the moment as I am working on my 'B' cert. Phoenix was at the top of my list and the thread has helped a lot.

This is a good thread with loads of information from you guys - many thanks for this info.

Mmm, christmas coming, dark nights, flight sim . . . yup, works for me.

    Phil.
  12. Many thanks for all of your kind remarks - feel free to use it on the desk top (thats where mine now resides along with several others at work!)
I must do honour to John Schiell in our club as it was his Hanger 9 Spitfire and superb flying that made the shot possible, all I did was to trip over my flight box and the camera just went off.
By the way David you are right, I noticed the little tell tale rods as well . . . . perhaps that makes it modeltastic convincing.
    Regards, Phil.
