  1. Thanks Guys, As an original oily head now embracing the electric side of the hobby as well, I am finding it really enjoyable AND educational. I almost understood every word you guys said . . . Seriously, it must be rubbing of on me!  Thanks everso,  Phil.
  2. Steve,  Great article and it certainly gives food for thought on using electric in a jet instead of a glow. I would imagine, although not a turbine, the sound is quite acceptable on a pass and certainly an improvement on a glow. Sorry I just cannot imagine hearing this jet with the sound of a 4 stroke! Have to agree with Timbo on the retracts although I can imagine your dilema, and full marks on the engine mount.  So what are the electric options? Is your power train likely to be a good datum to start . . . . guess you can already hear the cogs in motion and those model shows are not far away. M m m m its an old trick but it might just work!  Regards, Phil.
  3. Oh please, please let me win something one day! Err, count me in!
  4. David, After the recent article in RCME I would love to see a turbine model for us all of the Gloster E28/39 (also referred to as the "Gloster Whittle").  As for the other two I have a love for these:  My three are: 1/ Gloster E28/29 2/ Feistler Storch 3/ DH53 Humming Bird Regards, Phil.
  5. Oooo, chaps! I'm in for this one as none of the Xmas prizes had my name on it. But hey, call me cynical, I cant help notice that it also encourages us to keep responding to posts. So . . . . every time I respond back does this increase my chances? mmmmmmm?
  6. David, Thanks for this information, I'll check it out. Plus, another bit of laziness on my part as Robin is a club mate and I should have thought to ask him as well . . . Ah well, hey ho!  Thanks,  Phil. P.S. Perhaps it was just a excuse to comminicate via the forum - and it worked.
  7. Allen,  Many thanks for the information and for responding to my call. Should have that issue, its a bit lazy of me not to have looked already but responses such as yours are a big time saver. Phil.
  8. Scott, Thanks, I had intended to go balsa bashing but had a look at the GWS website and it did get me interested. Options currenly open.  Thanks,  Phil.
  9. Hello Flying mates, Being an oily bloke and venturing into electic stuff, first with a Ripmax Spitfire then with a little Micro Stick from Micron Models, I have found that this electric side of the hobby is funn (and clean) stuff. I recently ressurected an old Hercy bird lookalike from a departed club mate and decided to clean it up and have a go. The model has 4 x 400 motors and is a bit on the old side. Being none too sure how this would perform as it was an own design and weight double what would be needed (lets just say its build to withstand the next holocaust), I ventured into the skies of blue and although it was struggling into the air, once a bit of speed had built up the bird performed. So impressed was I that I felt another multi was deffinately on the cards so to cut a long story short (too late). . . . without going for Tony's grand multi's, does anybody know of multi planes out there for electric that I can have a bash at bearing in mind that I still have to work! Honest, this is a serious question, I think there was a plan of a twin a few years back something like 'Sky Van'? but that is not necessarily what I am looking for (just a clue). I have 100's of back issues but not got round to thumbing through them all yet.  Help would be appreciated. Anybody got a list?  Ta, Phil S.
  10. Chaps, I know its a litle late but for those intersted I understand that Jap Lac (available from B&Q type places) goes on a treat and is fuel proof. A couple of our members use it on their aircraft and swear by it. On their models its been brushed on but the finish is superb. I have not used it myself yet but perhaps some of you guys know more about its use. Hope it helps - cheers Phil.
  11. Oh, not an ME109 as well, I'll loose all me street cred at the field!
  12. David, RCM&E format seems fine. On a personal basis, I really enjoy Brian Winch and Alex Whittaker articles but then I am a balsa bashing, saw and filing practical sort of guy (or so I like to think - when I get time). I am currently starting to go over to the dark side and now have two electric models (Ripmax Spit & Micron Mini-stick) so I also like the nigel Hawes articles - resistance is futile and I have been assimilated! Does that help or hinder? Phil.
  13. Woo Hoo! Many thanks. On the mag, yeah I think it aint bad either. Having bought a mag from the competition in a weak moment (and there are many of those) I was a bit dissapointed with some of the content and lack of. But then, perhaps I have become used to the RCM&E content over the years. And a message to David and Tom please keep filling it out I need reading material (and adverts) to last a month . . . . unless I should start looking at the competition again . . . (joke!)
  14. Good point but as a subscriber I still cant find the icon so that I can gain entry to the "exclusive" area. Getting older, getting slow and by tomorrow will have forgotten all about it!
  15. Err, just a thought chaps but for those wanting thier membership number, I seem to remember getting mine confirmed on the phone when I made a query about my membership subscription once. Perhaps I am wrong but it seems to ring a bell (if nothing else).
  16. Hi Neal, Thanks for responding. I think you must be spoilt to have planes (however small) in the living room AND on the telly, hard luck on the weekend I'm off up the field or the LMA at Rougham for some supplies! I had the same thought on hand luggage, have a mate in NZ and thinking of returning there next year for a holiday, plane will have to go! Currently the Micro stick is covered and just needs gear to be installed - almost ready to go. Thanks for the tip on the elevator, point taken. Cheers, Phil.
  17. Neil, just read your message and am currently about to put glue to balsa with my own kit. I will not bother with rudder, its not likely to help much and will raise the weight. If,later after thrashing it about, I think it might be worth developing, Then I'll have a bash but for now mmmm no dont think so. Just my opinion. Good luck. Phil. P.S. Any progress on yours?
