  1. I sympathise with your friends position Geoff. I am happy to help genuine people but it's impossible to tell who that is. Living in London I get asked for money every single day and every person has a convincing sob story. Unfortunately I am now hardened to it and don't even stop to listen. This in itself saddens me but it seems to be the way of things.
  2. All good suggestions guys, thank you. However, a thread I found on rc groups does suggest that the undercarriage bracing is worth having as a 'structural' wire. The undercarriage is a bit weak without it, It would seem. I think I will have a go with wire traces and metal clevises as it would be far cheaper than replacing the current wires like for like. Lovely wire but very expensive!

  3. Do you think that solution would be OK for my Sig Ryan STA? It currently has flat steel wires with screw-in tighteners. I am not even 100% sure if the wires are structural or not, I couldn't find mention of them anywhere in the Sig build instructions (which I downloaded) and I cant find a copy of the plan unfortunately. The wing is held on by a single peg at the front and two plastic wing bolts at the rear.

The current rigging is coming away as a lot of it is low temperature soldered together. The closed loop wire and metal clevises solution appeals greatly as long as it would be strong enough? If not, has anyone got any suggestions please?

I bought this at Wings n Wheels LAST year and it is about time I got it sorted and in the air again. Flaps and aileron bell-cranks need sorting as well but other than that it should be good to go.

  4. To answer the first question, I would say the next step is pirouettes in both directions with your Nano. When you can do these quickly and slowly, without moving from the spot, you will have much better control over the heli in all orientations. Get a 450 or the 300x and fly outside as well though

I started on a Nano CPX and learned to hover it in my front room. Like you I couldn't fly it in the house though as it would get away from me and destroy things. Flying outside with a 450 really helped as I had room to make mistakes and catch it before it hit something.

Do you have a simulator? Any of them will do as it's main purpose is to ensure you always push the sticks in the right direction. They are invaluable for saving you money and mine has saved me thousands of pounds in crash costs. I can now fly circuits and simple aerobatics with my 450x and 450L and have yet (!) to have a crash with either.

    Good luck

  5. All the above is true and it is especially true now that magazines, generally, are less central to the hobby.

That said, a lot of reviewers are quite good at providing a subtext in the review.

As Donald says though, I always get a second opinion before buying and, increasingly, read the main uk and us forums to see other people's experiences. I am now at the stage where I won't buy an artf if there aren't any positive forum threads on it.

Hey jack, a contact 140??...a pal of mine picked one up from a swap meet and we cant find anything on it anywhere, so wondered whether it was legit. It flys nicely on a Rossi 40 though. yes

Mine was discovered in the depths of my old mans loft. I need to source a new wing for it but it's all there. I have most of the instructions if they would be of use to you?

Rossi 40 eh? The instructions state 40 - 60 2 stroke or 60-90 fs. I have both a gold cup .60 and an O.S fs 90 which i was considering. Interesting to hear it fly's well on a 40 though.

  7. I, personally wouldn't be interested in doing either of the NH designs mentioned by Erfolg, partly because they are both too simple (no built up wing, no undercarriage required etc) and partly because they are primarily suited to electric. I would want a model that was slightly more interesting to build and fly and would want to fit an IC power plant. I am really keen on picking one of Peters' many designs.

I have always fancied building his white lightning which was in another mag.
