  1. Posted by Richard Wood on 21/01/2015 08:29:02: Electric Bullet flies well on around 650-700W using a 4S. Try to keep tail end light. Edited By Richard Wood on 21/01/2015 08:53:01 I'm going for the recommended overlander 4240, 60a esc and probably a 4S 3200mah lipo
  2. Thanks, that makes more sense! Am I correct in assuming I drill/cut the trailing edge to fit the eyelet and hollow out the aileron 'centre' stock for the eyelet head and to allow the torque rod to move? Seems a piece of tube would be easier and neater? I'm waiting for my servos to turn up, so perhaps had better wait until they turn up so i get the spacings correct.
  3. I have glued one of the centre Wilkerson pieces but can remove it fairly easily. The torque rods are an L shape with a thread and control arm on the shorter part. The hinges are like eyelets rather than a tube??
  4. Hi all Just sorting my wings out (I can manage an hour max in the garage in this cold weather!). I've trimmed the aileron stock down, detached it from the wing and have cut and glued the aileron stock ends and centres on the wings. I spoke to the guy who let me try his Bullet and he said he used a single servo for the ailerons so I now aim to go this way too. I looked in the bag of bits with the kit, but don't like how I think the torque rods are fitted. Has anybody got any pics of theirs installed, or tips for fitting them? Thanks, Ian.
  5. Cheers Richard, will look at the plan when I get home. I plan to go electric and was lucky enough to try a converted bullet a few weeks ago. I was struggling to fly my foam wot4 15mph winds with gusts up to 25, but found the bullet a lot easier.
  6. Thanks again for the replies/help. Put 4 spots of PVA to hold the aileron stock in place (thought this morning, I should have used my glue gun!) so hopefully it will hold when I plane and sand it. I need to pull my finger out and decide on servos and order them! Any other tips gratefully appreciated! Cheers, Ian. Edited By Ian Southerton 1 on 20/01/2015 12:41:24
  7. Thanks for the replies, I have a sheet if mylar I can make some hinges out of, I still haven't decided on 1 or 2 servos yet! Looks like there may be some dihedral cut into my wings, will find out when I finish sanding them down and clean the ends up. Problem of the evening, I sanded the trailing edge, using the flat surface of the veneer of the wing as a sanding guide, so if I covered the wing, the new edge would look like part of the wing. Unfortunately, this measures 10mm wide and the aileron stock is 12mm. Any tips how I should fit/sand the ailerons to the wing? Cheers, Ian.
  8. Hi I've just purchased a Crescent PB Bullet and am starting to build it. I've built a couple of 30" span planes from plans, but this is my first kit. Sooo, apologies if I post some silly questions! Firstly, I've put the leading and trailing edges on the the foam veneer wings, I next have to fit the inside and outside edges which are made from aileron balsa, and the the wing tips. Questions are, I assume I have to bevel the aileron front edge to allow it to move, what type of hinge is recommended and when I join the the 2 wing halves together, do I have to chamfer the inside edges to make a better joint for the dihedral? Also, what's recommended, single or twin aileron servos? Finally (for now) when I join the wing halves together, and strengthen it with epoxy/webbing, how do I neatly cover the joint in film? Thanks. Ian.
  9. Nicely finished, love the colour schemes! I built 3! One I've flown once, one is 90% complete and the third is still not covered. Having a lesson toward my licence this s week! Noticed your aileron servos are on top of the wing, am tempted to do this one of mine as my lo all flying area is too rough for landing gear.
  10. If the weather's ok, i'll be there with my electric Jazz (90% finished) but i won't be flying as i don't have my 'A' cert. Ian.
  11. I loaded the demo on my asus shell netbook thingy. I had to load some directx files that it needed, but it ran. Took a while to load the title page, but the main demo ran ok, but not sure if it will be good enough. So, the plan is to buy the software, use my sons laptop to copy it to a usb stick and load it to the netbook. If it doesn't work then nothing's lost. Question is, do i buy a £70 copy of Phoenix, £50 copy ot £10 copy and a £12 usb adaptor (with driver cd's)??
  12. Thanks for the replies. I realise a desk top would be the best bet, especially as they are upgradeable, but don't have anywhere at home practical to keep it, hence the laptop idea, but then arises the problem of finding one powerful enough! I also intend to plug it into the tv in the living room 42" or dining room 32" so need it to be mobile! At least i now know it's feasible, it's just a case of transposing the requirements from the phoenix web site to the spec of the laptop Ian.
  13. Hi, I'm considering buying phoenix flight sim as the weather has been too bad for flying of late and the nights are dark when i get home. I have a dx6i so no problems there, but i only have a tablet and an asus netbook, so nothing suitable for running phoenix. So, can i run phoenix on a laptop from Tesco or currys (i don'tbwant a desk top)? If so, can anybody point one out for me? I also want a laptop that'l enable me to copy cds onto an mp3 player and burn sd card mp4 from my video camera to dvd. Thanks, Ian.
  14. Hi Kev Electric motor and battety size will depend largely on the weight and wing loading, and also on how much power to weight you want-do you want it to climb vertically etc? Nearly finished my kawakawaka? it's a lot more difficult than the jazz. Ian
  15. Thanks for your replies. I nearly bought a simulator after my son and i tried the bmfa one at the cosford show, but i don't have a suitable pc! Bixler looks good, but worried about epo and i only have a small car! Crack yak would be fun, i have a Hummer 3D which was cheap, but it is a bit twitchy if you use too much sticks. Ian.
  16. My 8 year old really wants an rc plane-I had a hobby zone aeronca that i leaned on, but it's too fragile for him. Any suggestions circa £70? Thanks.
  17. 2 different minds, 2 different answers!!! Never thought of the outline triangles! Ian.
  18. Ahhhh! That makes sense! Thanks for the fast reply! Ian.
  19. Hi, your English is better than a lot of people who live here! Think the triangles you refer to are small 'fillets' used to strengthen the tail, you'll find the same on the elevator. It's just a balsa offcut the same thickness as the tail with the grain of the wood as shown on the plan. Ian.
  20. Hi, i'm building a pi, and just finishing off the wings.. Could somebody help with the aileron servo mounting? I don't understand how the servo is mounted on the detachable 1/32" lite ply! Thanks, Ian.
  21. Some of the builds are taking shape really quick. My work so far-also building a Piwakawaka, so going slow and it's cold nin the garage!
  22. I bought one of them too and a tail skid. Will be interesting to see how it holds up as i bent the piano wire gear on my old jazz!
