  1. Took my Phase 6 out today. 3rd flight in I noticed it was having a weird reaction happening when it was facing into the wind. It was almost like it was weather cocking into the wind but it was already nose into the wind and doing an instant 90 deg left or right sharp flick which would take it side on to the wind. About the 4th time it did it it flicked over so the winds were vertical and was side on to the wind and that was it !! After it flicked 90 deg left and the wings were vertical the recovery was un successful. It was a strong wind and I had removed about 5 grams of weight ( balast) to catch more lift and think that might have been a mistake it was fun up on the top though. Dont to much slope stuff but I think it wont be long before i'm back up there again. Really enjoyed it and looking for another slope bird already lol Jamie
  2. Posted by Charles Smitheman on 15/08/2013 12:36:47: Hi Jamie, Good luck with this. I have been flying one for about a year now. It is great fun. I threw away the elevator and rudder pushrods and made my own, as the supplied stuff looked dire. Pull pull cables to the rudder ran through the existing snakes, and I made an elevator pushrod whit a "y" at the back to each elevator half. There was also a bit of fiddling required with the ailerons and flaps, but well worth the effort. The horn position holes were all in the wrong place i think. I plugged them up and made new ones. One of my u/c blocks came out of the wing some time back, bad landing or bad glue? I know what I think! But it was easy enough to stick back. I also fitted bigger wheels which fit inside the spats easily, for our rough strip. Oh yes the u/c legs needed to be bent to a more scale angle, I found a 3 view on the net, and bent them in the vice, no problems. This last winter I flew it without the spats, but they do add a touch of class. I chose to fit an Irvine spinner, I preferred the shape. I have a Saito 82 in mine, it has masses of power. It fitted it sidewinder, with just the silencer protruding. I cut a cooling exit hole in the underside of the cheek cowl. I recommend cyano-ing some glass reinforcement inside the cowl to reinforce any cutouts for the engine, it is very thin. The Saito may be powerful and reliable, but it is not the smoothest running engine. The flaps are really effective, at the weekend, at the Bickley scale day, someone commented that a model like that shouldnt be able to fly so slowly. This really makes landing on our short strip easy. The flaps give very slight up elevator trim, but not enough for me to have bothered with a mix. Try them up high first. Oh yes, the alum tube was a poor (too tight) fit in the wings. I spun it up in the lathe and sanded it down with some emery tape. You could do this in a drill too. or by hand with emery tape. It fits in my Berlingo in one piece anyway. It is a very enthusiastic snap roller, it is possible to pull up into a stall turn, snap roll on the upline, and then do the stall turn. Fun! As you would expect with a short coupled model like this, the elevator needs to be treated with respect, keep the movement small, it is very powerful. A fun model, enjoy it. In summary, it took me a weeks holiday to build, and has given me hours of fun. Considering that it usually takes me 2 years to build a model, it was well worth it. Charles Charles I'm not sure what the push rods were like with your one but these are ok looking. They may have changed it....not sure. The elevator has a y at the servo end and there all metal push pull system with metal clevises for fitting. Rods are about 2mm in dia. The aluminium wing tube fits tight and snug but by no means to tight. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe they have sorted out some issues on the kit...not sure. Time will tell on the ailerone and flay horn holes. Think Ill start with the engine and cowel mounting. Then fit radio in bay and follow up with the tail gluing and connection's. The wings dont look like they have much work involved so I will leave them till last and hopefully all will go well. Jamie
  3. It arrived this morning and its my 4th Black Horse model that I have had. The Build quality to me is excellent and covering included. All in all I'm impressed at this moment. The 90 Jen will fit just but some holes needed to be cut in the lovely cowel but the entire engine is soaked up inside it other than the 2 exhaust pipes and the adjustment needle will be out by about 5mm I think. Time will tell on that. With a 90 up front this thing is going to go some !! Think I might put my digital heli servos in the wings. A standard futaba 3001 on throttle and I think I have a couple of 3010 servos for rudder and elevator. It will be 2.4 ghz I think but I do have the 35 mhz that is a posibility. I'll try and take some pictures and post them if the excitement doesn't get to much lol Jamie
  4. Thanks for the replys. It hasn't arrived today to my dismay !! SNAIL MAIL... Im putting a Jen 90 in it with a cowel muffler which I already have. I phoned the company before I ordered it to make sure the 90 was ok. He said yes so it will be ok hopefully. How much deflection should I dial in on the flaps ?? 1/4 inch to start off ?? I presume when landing under flaps I need to carry the throttle a bit to compensate for the sink rate ?? This is new to me the flap thing Jamie
  5. Ordered another ARTF on Monday As title say's.....can't wait for tomorrow , should be here and I will be like a 6 year old on Christmas morning lol. **LINK** It has flaps which I have never flown with and I am a wee bit excited but also nervous about this. Hopefully have the maden flight this weekend if I get it all kitted out and ready. Jamie
  6. Ic Ben , Sorry I was a bit vaig.... I'm not a beginner. It would be intermidiate to advanced flying. I wont be taking part in any comps. Just want to look at a good air frame to try it. Jamie
  7. Hi everyone, I've been trolling the internet with no real success. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post on the Newbie section. I was trying to find good Pylon racing airframes kit or artf. Anyone got any good websites of the top of there heads to go look at the goodies. Thanks Jamie
  8. There was a tv program on 2 weeks ago and I cant remember what it was called but it was explaining exactly what you are experiencing....or very similar at least. Basically they setup an experiment and filmed it. The people they used for the example were not aware of what was being studied but were told after what they had experienced during the test. The test involved a room with 3 sides being built and a roof on top. The room was painted white and had black vertical lines on the left and right wall only. The black lines were only about an inch wide so they were very clear on the white back ground. The room that was built was not joined to the floor but instead rolled on wheels so it could be moved backwards and forwards. There was a platform about 6 inches high in the midle of the room to stand on that was about 18 inches square. The floor was painted totally white also. A subject was told to stand on the platform in the middle of the room and hold a tray of 6 glasses full of water. When they were on the platform in the middle of the room hidden people moved the sliding walls in a backwards motion and every time they did this the subject in the middle of the room fell off the platform and spilled the glasses full of water every where... Fact was the people weren't moving at all as they were on a fixed platform in the middle of the room and completely stationary. It was the brain telling them that they were moving forward because of the black lines on the left and right wall. It was a not so nice sensation from what I seen but a very clever sientific example of how the brain tricks you into thinking you are moving due to lack of visual orientation.... Im not sure if this is what you are getting but I thought I would share it with you in case it is your problem. Jamie
  9. Thanks for the videos Ian. Funny as I actually seen them on youtube last night. Its an ugly plane I think but robust looking. I learnt to fly on a Precedent aircraft which was the Flyboy which I dont think you can get anymore either. I have also seen a sig Piper J3 Cub which is 1/4 scale but it is a scale model and building time will be doubled probably compared to the T240. The Piper Cub is £30 less though. I'm having a problem making a decision here .......... **LINK** The Piper cub is 10 inches bigger that the T240 at 95 inches. Video below.. **LINK** I'll need to have a good think about this. Anyway I'm off flying in a wee while. Maybe that'll help Jamie
  10. Posted by david chalmers 1 on 10/08/2013 09:19:38: Hi Jamie, I did in fact go out and get a Phoenix 4 Simulator and up till yesterday that was all I had flown. Took courage yesterday and had the real thing out. I managed 2 good flights without 2 many anxious moments. However on the third I lost it and did a little damage on landing. Mothing to great though and will repair today. I put it down to the simulator that I even got of the ground. Well done Davie, practice will get you there I'm sure. Orientation is the main cause of crashes where the aircraft beomes a siloette and you cant tell if its coming towards you or away. I find if that happens when I'm flying I just add a small amount of left or right turn to work out which direction its actually heading. You'll be doing loops before you know it. Keep up the good work Jamie
  11. Posted by KingE on 04/08/2013 11:02:09: Hi David, just my 2 pence worth why dont you look into a simulator phoenix 4 is really good i use this quite a lot. And will save you a lot of models and money in long run mate. Hi David, I second the Phoenix simulator. Your DX5 transmitter will work fine with it as long as you get the correct lead to connect to that type of transmitter. Futaba, spectrum etc have different connectors on the back so if you do make sure you get the correct lead. I use my sim a lot for the helicopter side of things but a bounce about with a plane is good practice and fun. I am a highlands man to but I am on the main land part 50 miles up past Inverness. Im well up also. I'm quite sure if you ask the right people you will be surprised who is an RC Plane enthusiast..... Good luck with you gaining your wings and we all have crash landings. I've had some spectacular ones I tell you.........and some where a black bag is the only answer !!! Jamie
  12. Hi everyone, I just joined the forum tonight. I have been flying models for some 20-24 years now so I am not a beginner but I do have some questions to ask if everyone could give there opinion. I have built quite a number of models now and flown everything from basic trainer to fully airobatic models. Helicopters are also part of the flying thing but I want to buy myself a large high winger preferably for airial photography or taking video clips. I have noticed the T24o has hit the market again and at 95 inch wing span hits the size target that I was looking for. Link below . **LINK** If there are other good alternatives please say as I have heard that the T240 is a bit of a brick to fly but this may be untrue ?? Thanks for reading and any replys thanks Jamie
