  1. Not wanting to jump into Martyns thread. Here are some images of Magic after 18 years of storage prior to refurbishment
  2. Re Snap-Flaps Yes that's what Hanno called them, I read the reason he developed the flap system was for the T.O.C. He states that he was aware the judges were looking for tight radiuses on square loops etc.............. Typical Hanno always ahead of the game. Reason I lost Curare was simply due to sloppy workmanship / poor linkages at the time (Lesson learned, still learning my trade) and not the design of the snap-flaps. if I was to build another Curare/Magic I would fit them as per design. 3. We had 2 Racketeers prior to Tornado. I remember they wasn't very durable, especially where we flew. When I visit my mums I will go through all the old flying photos and post them when I get time. Way back then I was a very young Owdlad
  4. Hello all, I have just posted my application form and looking forward to seeing you all at future meetings. My Pattern CV started back in 1975/76 when my late Farther decided that should start to compete with a Tornado powered by a Super Tigre G60 Blue head ED carb & Pipe turning an Glass ishipla 11x7.1/3 prop. We developed our own designs based off Tornado using different wing/tail/ fuselage sections, moved the tai-plane around to find the best advantage, always progressing our designs. We never gave our designs a name through fear of bad luck apart from one design which for some reason just seemed to last. You have to remember at that time we had a very high model attrition rate due to radio problems, this model was affectionately called ' Old Wreck'. I ceased competing 1978 when I took up an Engineering apprenticeship. Things that stick in my mind are:- Watching Dave Hardaker loose a round due to his engine not starting, Watching Dave Hardaker. Geoff Franklin giving me an enormous pat on the back at a competition in choosing to fly when other competitors refused to fly due to the flying site being too small (so they said)......... The competition eventually commenced Geoff Franklin taking me under his wing. Kath Watson praising one of my rounds Pestering my Dad to buy a Lightening Kit off Dave Hardaker at a competition (£20/£30 I think) Redshift!!! Finally I have discovered plans of our designs we used. So, does this fit the criteria as set out by the association? Regards Sam
  5. Hi Martyn I'm in the process of getting my Magic back up in the air. She last flew back in 1996. Reading this thread has brought many memories flooding back concerning the build of Magic and how difficult it was. Originally Magic was fitted out with a Super Tigre 61RE to which i fitted a OS Pump & Carb unit. I have a brand new OS.61RF ABC-Pumped what i bought many many years ago but never got round to using and now in the process of fitting this engine to Magic I Never fitted the Snap Flaps to Magic for the reason I lost a Curare when they pulled out on its test flight with the resultant demise of the model. When i get some photos i will up-load them and hope they assist you in you build BTW What i remember she flies on rails Regards Sam
