  1. I am doing chuck. I cant wait to get home and be round my kids am missing them like mad. Because im in a hospital 25 miles away its hard for them to visit and when its a 50 mile roubd trip in a car its bloody expensive. Sorry no updates apart from iv jad a rough 3 days where iv been in allot of pain with my back which is due to hospital mattress so they swapped it for a full air mattress which is much nicer on my back because iv no meat left on me. Infact i bet the average 1/4 scale bipe is heavier then me haha. Got to look on the brightside and stay possitive and joke as much as possible because keeping your spirits high when in hospital with this condition is hard. I just feel sorry for the nurses because they all get it from me and at least 2 dish it back at me . The staff in st james's are fantastic i have to admit. But not half as nice as being around my kids. Thanks again to those who have donated and thanks to all those who have just left messages of kind words it all means allot to me.
  2. Thanks nigel and thanks daz. I lost my mum to cancer when i was 11 and it was my dad who got me into this hobby just before she died to try help occupy my mind from what was going off and to get me out of the house. He later died of cancer when j was 19. I lost one of my nannans to cancer and also an uncle and 2 aunts. Only one of my uncles is alive today and he is my mums brother and hes beaten it twice so sadly i new i would face it at some point just didnt think it would be so soon.
  3. Again i cannot express enough thanks to all and everyone who have. Left me such kind messages and also donations. Just a message gives me hope. I intend to not be beaten by cancer because i cannot afford to especialy when i have 3 kids and my first daughter only being 6 months old. I want to see her walk down the isle before i let cancer take me. In the last 3 days this thread has raised 1900 dollars for me and before that it took me nearly a month to raise 230 dollars. Im only 28 and have still yet to buy a mick reeves spit or a db sport and scale spit and fly it and that is my ambition of this hobby and target and has been since i was just a 12 year old school kid spending his dinner money on the way home from school at the local model shop on balsa. I have not flown for the last 3 years due to kids etc and recently returned to the hobby due to the illness and being unable to work. I have always loved spitfires and still intend to save and buy the kit and build it. Even if i dont complete it or fly it u will have at least reached my target of owning one.

As for treatment. They fitted a stent into my stomach friday and its left me pretty sore and sickly due to the endoscopy. But upto now uts allowing me to now keep fluids down and hopefully as the stent expands it will allow soft foods to pass through also. I have been unable to eatbor drink for the last 11 months due to stomach cancer paralising the exit to my stomach making it impossible to eat and drink and keep it down without throwing it back up. Iv gone from 14st to 7st and had to he fed via a pipe in my side bypassing the stomach. I was on a liquid feed called freshubin extra whichbis a yogurt type liquid with all the nutrients etc in the body needs to keep it alive. However i have had nothing but issues and failed to put weight on so i mamaged to convince my surgeon to allow me to have the stent fitted. So for the last day or so my body has been adapting to this stent. Its like learning to eat again but fingers crossed i should put weight on now to necome physicaly stronger to fight. I have also been told i will be starting more chemo im just waiting for the oncologist to come and see me on the ward. Thanks again guys and i will keep you all updated on here daily if i can.
  4. Thanks guys and hey dave the mustang must fly again . I cant say than you enough to you all i really cant i just hope and pray i can beat this. Not for me or anyone but for my kids. Fingers crossed all will go well and fingers crossed i dont get knocked back when i apply for my passport. Im hoping i can raise close enough to the target and upto now it looks promising thats for sure . I will keep coming back and reading coments and replying its just im having to use my fone to do this and it isnt as easy as it is on the computer.
  5. Just seen the messages on the se5a thread and come here and seen these and all i can say is im gob smacked .i cant thank everyone enough i really cant. I dont know who donated the 1000 but im in shock. It was only at 215 dollars this morning till i posted it on the se5a thread. Im currantly in st james's leeds bexeley wing as an in patient after being rushed in over the weekend after becoming ill over christmass but was determined i was not being admitted to hospital til i had spent the christmass with my 18 month old son and 5 month old daughter incase its my last christmass. Anyway towards new year i thought i had picked up alittle and come last Sunday i got bad again. Low potassium due to constant vomiting and severely dehydrated as other low numbers in my blood. So currently on drips to get me back nice and stable again. I will keep you all posted on this thread to keep you all in the picture. The money being raised is to pay for passport and flight over and the rest is a start if they can offer treatment after they looked at my case.

Ps ray over jn america who i will be staying with is also into his rc aircraft and has skills that are amazing. So i will be in good hands. Thanks again to everyone it means so much to me because i want to see me little lad get into this hobby because no doubt he will love it.
  6. Hey guys sorry for lack of replys. Im feeling more positive and aint going to give in without a fight. Mike im in hospital again at the minute so not sure whats at mine till i get back and thank you ever so much. I appreciate everyones support and looking into trying to raise funds to go to america for a second opinion. Problem is cost ect. Friends of mine over there setup a fund to help try raise money for me to go over for a while and go to there local cancer hospital i hope the mods on here dont mind but heres the link.

  7. Hi sorry for not being on in a while. I finished chemo mid november as planned. Went in for the op on 3rd of december. However the chemo has shrunk the cancer but when they opened me up they found it had not stopped it from spreading. Its now on my bowl and abdominal wall. At the minute i allot on my mind and forgot about this thread so i do appologise. I have been told its inoperable and waiting to see my oncologists on the 8th of jan to find out if there is anything they can do now :/ so modeling now may be over for me
  8. Wow the camel looks lovely indeed. The rs im not sure about. first things first need to assemble it to find out whats missing apart from the engine and exhaust so there will be a list of things to buy before I get round to paintwork haha.

That's something I wanted to find out about with the se5a some pictures show riveting near the front cabanes and I was also wondering I may get away with removing the paint and adding some plating. the wood work and covering is spot on it just seems the paints gave up ghost after many years of service

  9. Here we go the pics.... as you can see both wings have had some major repairs done to both left up n lower wing panels. both right wing panels are absolutely flawless. Need to find some scale drawings of it so I can try keep it looking scale once I come to adding the detailing and need info on the rigging wires because this model was built with them.

  10. Haha that's it plummet. im over the moon with the model, thank you and as I said theres going to be a full restoration thread on here so you can follow its progress . I really don't no what to do the fuse covering is in beautiful condition (sig coverall) its just the paints wrinkling up n starting to flake. Going to have to buy some n learn the technique to redo the wings once I have fixed them.

Sorry guys sending pm out soon, had to go pick up my latest win off ebay an aprilia rs125 which is another project in the pipeline. didn't help falling asleep in chair when I got back from picking the bike up but that's chemotherapy for you wipes you out. some days I feel fine n then some days you go from fine to passing out for hours on end due to tiredness. going to upload these photos now im awake again.

  11. Stevo im in Barnsley south Yorkshire. all the ribs are intact its the spars that have been spliced in more then one area. the wing ribs don't look original either there solid balsa ribs so im tiping its an early flair kit. its definatly a flair fuselage. also the wing has 2 half ribs between each rib where as the pics iv seen on the net show it has just having full size ribs with lightning holes in. il take some pics later and upload them

  12. Id also be interested if anyone has a damaged one to sell. Or one needing restoration. I am starting to make a collection of ww1 and ww2 planes so if anyone has a damaged airframes I would definitely be interested if able to post or local. price would depend on how much work it needs.

  13. Does anyone have any of the following

a wing kit for the flair se5a or plans for the model?

An u/c and wheels for it and wing struts?

I recently was given one that needs restoring. the fuse is perfect but at some point the right top and bottom wing has been ripped off the model. someone repaired it but not very well and the repairs have actualy given the top wing wash out and the bottom wing wash in. its missing its u/c and wheels and wing struts. both left wings are fantastic and the wings are built in 3 sections meaning I only have to build to right wing outer panels. thanks for any help or advice guys

  14. would love to get my hands on a high sierra glider kit. had 3 but never got to build the kit because as a kid money was hard. so used to buy old airframes and just fly them to death.

As for precedent I had fun building the low boy my first low wing rc plane. had a bi fly and loved it.

Would love to get my hands on a howard metcalfs f4 phantom kit again it flew superb with a magnum 25 up front.

  15. Its when you see old designs like this do you really appreciate the lines and curves of the design, I love working with strip wood and thick soft balsa because it is such a cheap way to build yet the finish can be so artistic an beautiful in looks.

Looking through these photos has really got my inspiried in designing something like this... iv been looking for weeks for a model to build ( from my own design not kit or plan).

Very nice building and work Jeff, My very first bi plane was a david bodington bi stormer and I do remember having to recover the model before I could fly it. paid 25 quid for it from an older member of our club back when I was 16. I was in awe at the structure and ever since iv been a big fan of models built like this.

    Keep up the lovely work.

  16. That's something I will do in time chuck, as for the back panel (peg board) yes I agree it needs a support in the center. it has 5 bolts on either side which are great but the center flexs too easily. The whole framework when assembled is actualy very very sturdy and when I order the 1.5meter bench off ebay to go next to it which is same design just without the peg board and drawer it will get bolted to the bench above for extra support. the 1.5 meter bench will be then the building bench n this one the part makin bench with little band saw bolted to the top and vice which I have just bought. Just dropped on a band saw 45 quid with a brand new blade ready to be fitted because the old one has a tooth missing. other then that its absolutely spotless. so very happy with that purchase because it makes ply formers of any size a piece of cake. aswell as making multiple ribs etc. For once im loving spending the money on tools because it makes the designing and building models so much easier and results in cleaner fitting parts making the build of the model so much more enjoyable. it really opens the windows to this hobby if you have the tools at hand. who needs cnc and laser cutting when the old fashioned way is good enough.

  17. I have always used balsa cabin, I was just wondering what other company's sell balsa cheaper then your local model shop does. Always had a good service with them and friendly staff on the phone. I order allot of things ofline and we don't have a local model shop unless a go to leeds or Doncaster and just wondered what other shops around the uk is there like balsa cabin that have really good priced balsa. Im sure theres a few good places for good prices

il check slec out I like there products didn't realise they did balsa wood

  18. Hi guys after returning to the hobby after a 3 year break im slowly getting everything I need yet again. However after buying my tools and building bench etc I have got to the point where I need now to go out and buy a big selection of woods for building from plans etc. Im sure all you builders and scratch builders out there no exactly what I mean. I used to have sheets of balsa of all sizes same with all the strip balsa and spruce and sheets of light ply all sat waiting readily to be used on a project.

My question is where do you guys get ur wood from other then ur local model shop because im sure I can save cash when a buy in bulk orders.

  19. Thanks guys, Believe me I can not wait to start building on it and im going to enjoy every minute of it. I already have a build thread on the go somewhere that I started a couple of weeks ago, its an Antec models extrim 3D. I was building that on back of a solid wood door which was not very convenient but was very flat haha. I really need to get hold of some sheets or a big sheet of cork. glue that to the work bench so when I am pining structures down the pins go through the cork.

And flying next season I will be without a shadow of a doubt and hopefully I will have a few scratch builds built by then too, because I do love just building as I go from no plans just off the top of my head. Its surprising how artistic one can be and I find it so much easier to build a model then draw a plan for it rather then trying to come up with a design to then build.

Speaking of which here is a model I never got to finish when I broke up with my ex. this was when I had all the tools and room in the world and 3 meters of kitchen worktop to build on with lots of under cupboard storage. Someone some where bought this off my friends ebay because I sold up to a friend who then broke down all the planes and so on and made a hefty profit at my loss. I built the wing but never got round to finishing the airlerons. I did have a picture of it with the elevators on but it seems to have gone walkies. but this model was nicknamed the erection 46 by my friend because the model was built off the top of my head and the engine was an Irvine 46 that was to power it. The thing was light as a feather even though the center of the fus where the wing seats was doubled with ply around the wing seat and then a thin fiberlass cloth layed in soaked in resin to reinforce the whole area. really wish I could have finished it because it really would have been a nice flyer im more then sure.

  20. Thanks john, its great for the value I really am chuffed to bits over it. iv always wanted a bench like this but been put off by the prices over £150, I really did think for £49.99 it ant be much good but how wrong I was its brilliant. Im just in the process of cluttering it up now. so far the top shelf's got my 450 size beam heli on there as well as the hitec transmitter in its original box what I bought to put me on till I can go and buy the Aurora 9 and there's still room left for pots of glue etc. iv got 2 kit boxes on the shelf underneath and there's still plenty of room for another 3 kit box's at least. The back board has lots of holes drilled and the bench comes with hooks to hang stuff on there so will be digging out all my packaged goodies for the 2 kits I am starting on and getting those hung on there so there to hand for quick reference etc.

The model building I really do find therapeutic believe it or not and because of my condition I have a pump on a drip stand pumping food and nutrients into my bowel till the remove my stomach so getting around is not easy. so I figured Spending hours of building over the winter will be just the ticket. come next spring Il be fine, ops before xmas and last lot of chemo just after new year. so come spring I should have a few planes to maiden membership to pay for and fingers crossed a nice relaxing summer recovering from it all. Once the ops out of the way il be allot better because I cant take anything orally other then sips of water so its a pain in the a$$. A few friends cant believe how open I am about my problem. but whats to hide its just a hurdle in life that one has to overcome and beat smiley and lifes full of them and this is just one of those hurdles.
