  1. Wow! fantastic in every way. out of frustration turned the lot off and something sensible that I understand, a classic car magazine. I have never connected the Dongal! will try again over weekend following your help. Silverstone tomorrow and classic cars, should refresh my temperament....
  2. Might have made some progress. I now have on the desk top 3 icons. None work. Reflex Model Flight, RF7 launcher Simulator. I am prompted to enter the serial number of the CD I have. It will not allow these to be entered. Thus, no further forward really. Disc B took 23 minutes to load, and Disc A 13 I have looked on google, did that before i started this lot this morning. Could not find much to help in that one video was 33 mins long. None seem specific to this system, so many pages shown bear no resemblance to what I have. Perseverance is the order of the day. Going to un-install the lot and start again.
  3. Moved the SKY shield to 18 which must surely be ok for this thing? Tried almost randomly to get further, ended up being asked what company I worked for. ? Everything to do with R/C is a barrier, amazed anyone does it! Maybe just best to wait for good weather and try to fly, lean the hard way, less frustrating (almost)
  4. Ok, thank you both for helping me. Here is what I've done/get Open Fire Explorer, click DVD drive, get a prompt to install a disc. Install DVD disc A and double click. Get the Gold Warrior 'page' menu with several options to choose, choose Reflex XTR (as it is written on Disc A). It quietly loads after about 45 secs. Remove disc A and insert disc B, double click as above, select Real Flight G7 off the short menu, loads in 45 sec ish. Remove disc B. Go to the PC desk top to look for FMS symbol, nothing BUT there are 2 Sheild symbols at the bottom of the tool bar which have highlights of orange both going on and off as if something is happening. the desk top screen has the FMS page on it and can only be cleared if you click on one of the flashing shields and cancell it. That's it.
  5. As ever, nothing works for me. I have been on this thing for 2 hours now, I must be doing something very wrong. I have an FMS symbol on the desk top, when double clicked to open it does and states the FMS has not been loaded and there is no fix. I hate this stuff.
  6. Thank you Dennis. My PC is Lenovo running V10 Microsoft, tx is the Spekrum DX6. There are 2 discs, A and B, nothing on them to say why/what they do. Have found on the net some instructions, but does not mention A or B. but starts with V5.5 and describes upgrades to V6. The 'stick' that goes into the USB port is pale yellow, see-through and has no other identifications, but the side slide switch has 4 positions and the stick is marked correspondingly, Pos 1 is Phoenix RC, 2 is Aerofly, 3 is G5/6/7, 4 is XTR There is a single push button on the adjacent face unmarked. Going to load disc A and see what happens....
  7. Getting started in R/C and have bought a dongle 'kit' to get going on the PC. It is the Gold Warrior SIM, XTR G7 Aerofly Phoenix RC VCR The kit has 2 discs, A and B. and a see-through 'stick' to plug into the PC. plus a few cables. I want to connect to my Spektrum DX6. My problem is there are no installation instructions at all. (why is that!?) So, can anyone on here please give me a sequence to follow in simple terms so I can 'plug n play' this sim? Thanks in advance, Graham.
  8. Nothing is simple for me and electronic transactions! The first place i went to said he was on holiday, so the ebay shop was closed. Got this message after trying to pay for it. So, bought one from the first seller above, no probs. Now the guy who was closed and on hols wants me to complete the order...I've ask him to can cell my order having explained the circumstances. We will see. Taxed my Skoda on line this week, did it all, payment etc only for the Gov.uk site to say the transaction had a problem and no details would be taken and to try again later. 5 mins later got receipt from Gov.uk saying tax paid, everythings ok, thankyou. hope the download works easy!
  9. OK, thank you. Not looking forward to all that, these thing rarely work out for me, bit like learning to fly this thing! Need an 8 year old to help...
  10. Thank you Caveman, just what I was looking for. will order one now. got to break this long learning cycle. Dennis: The time I spend on this thread would be better spent on the SIM! Ha! So much for speed, the seller has closed his ebay shop as he is on holiday! Later then.
  11. Got to the stinking hot field this morning, all ready to continue on my awkward journey to fly, but Martin could not make it, so was the last to leave at 1.30pm. However, had chance to chat to one of the very experienced flyer there when i got there (several had been and gone by 12 noon, heat) and he commented, constructively, that i was making far too many mistakes since i had started, and Martin was rescuing me too many times, BUT, he did stress that I should take the plunge and get a simulator. Apparently when he started out 15 years ago his instructor insisted he spent 3 week intensely on a Phoenix sim before he would start to help him! So, packed everything away. Alone, i was very tempted to set the plane to stabilised and have a go , but resisted... So, to SIMS... This is a link given on this thread for the Phoenix. If i get this lot what exactly do i need to get/do? I was hoping you could get something from my TX to go to a lap top or pc and I can plug-n-play. Obviously never that simple, but can anyone give me a clear simple guide please? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402725677553?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item5dc45229f1:g:VL0AAOSws09gP03D&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACgBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkTboA95HSvGa1O5UmCCGJLu%2FgMSX3u%2BzDY5mrF3tYMzvU0dCbeIyry4qxycpRErNNy%2BgAQdNTn%2FOjob%2BtmMV33TXDPDMEBuYRX%2B%2BhbOUsAECEwQfw6SA4ilSvhKgAiXoP7Mp8JQFVx3jSfRYzzOdAidQotPModv0s3jMr8%2FeRlzXOxnaO%2FDvVf1eSWisdgDpxvD8wwW%2BFViJLnw9Qq6DlzKUG%2FqigIq%2F0r3ArRFZ%2BY95aP%2BQ%2F33qofW%2BSvDhsaaO%2FIEMRej49IF5sJ%2Bvt3FFSmbjwSFpA7vMfKcxtv0Td6vd1jqTy37H7gLP5Xw4LJKsQA%2FMe08kWmfL8mlda46HrxR3QQ347T7ng0UMID0UOafTrgvJxuNufWwutO2L%2BD78rpiIvgLgFzTknHJC27T6kfrRy5JmWw1ssvHN5Nu%2FBDKagdVhm4ZCEfrOauLI8iD%2BIsxDNA3aKi5ieXtzvdcb6Xhs5%2FULqPtaCSOG0BGOOBa4qWvDS5SQd5dZQwSQ8hjMqPT9X%2BEyuVWYesOorV5OXRn1THpSDEAqwvoUfgKvbI%2FfpoW5b5r52lxmxL%2BkT0AYijFudJ99qrpoSaJ%2BlWvF%2B7UJ5wyKH4wQ%2FR8F68hPDNe00c1rIshnCd4gD3Rc7Vi40do0%2Bgz3k7C3bAfX1b00nkStL%2Fdax9LkUjBXpzCyIpUm5M0Ye73gAP8N%2BfjfxhF6%2F6%2BBRluslUJ2Bt%2BI6MQWzkB8oUaIqtQqtme6vHvqmCWGGRWWL5mWeI60v8JszmZH%2BXtYRTJVUwYUDp9sHgA9%2FOk3QMcRtAmatdZzTvbshruU%3D|cksum%3A4027256775538ffad20a77f54e40b450fde3a21ce3cf|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2334524
  12. Thanks for the encouragement! Martin is skiving-off on holiday for a week, so happens we are too, so silence for a while. The FMS has more wrinkles than a 110 year old, but will give it a go. A new fuselage is £72 bare so a day to strip and transfer it all over when the time comes, but only when I'm ready and have run out of glue. My Hard Landings are when I've dumped it into the ground, Martin floats it in and feather's the elevator at just the right time and almost rolls to a halt and taxis it to our feet. Showing off! One day in the distant future I will switch the buddy link off. Champagne that day.
  13. I am not one to give in on any project I do, and some are quite tricky esp if I don't have the skill-set or tools. This one is much harder. I'm good with mechanical things, car restoration, motorcycles restos and more, even fixing old guitars, but with this 'challenge' I am not so sure I have the skills to use it, doubt is creeping back in. Old dogs don't learn new tricks etc. Fully agree to stick time, and has left me wondering. This Kingfisher has the stability unit which is off while on the buddy link. This means i can only reliably (ish) fly with Martin to rescue me. No Martin, no flying. Martin is mode2 and that suits me being left handed, nobody else on the field is! I am tempted to simply switch the stab on and get going solo as well as with Martin/buddy link. As to the wires: I have now glued the plane again back together. Not sure just how much longer the Fuselage will stand up as all 'landings' have been hard, and sometime rips the undercarriage clean out of the belly. The 'carbon' tube that acts as the structural spar was shattered by the last Down to the Ground and now replaced with a quality length of slightly larger dia carbon tube as no spares are in stock in the UK. The wings are really firmly in place now, and the support struts re-super glued. The hatch to the Rx/wires etc is now a tight fit, the nose section has crushed about 1mm and it shows. I was told to boil a kettle of water and let the steam pass over the creases. Old wives tale? So, the wires to the Rx are tucked together to one side and a fine cable tie used to keep them there. The Rx is close behind the engine mounting plastic moulding and the short aerial pointing vertically. The long wire now exits at 90 deg to that and straight out of the cabin, the wire being tacked lightly to the outside face of the fuselage with a dot of super glue. It is nowhere near the battery now. My Spektrum DX6 has a fixed vertical aerial on top of the set which rests at about 60 deg from the horizontal when in use. Penn models has a pile of Wot4's in stock..... Will i ever get to fly crash free my Buccaneer?
  14. Thanks for the info, I learn every day. The long wire from the Rx ran right alongside the length of the battery so along the fuselage centre line. Above it is all the wires from various sections of the plane all culminating above the ariel... The smaller one is 90 deg to the long one but still surrounded by the mirriad of servo wires. The model certainly looked stalled before pitching to the ground. The carbon (or some kind of fibre) tube is fractured mid span, so will get another carbon tube from Penn Models tomorrow, genuine tubes are out of stock. Undercarriage now glued again to the belly of the fuselage, but no other damage. Wonder how much more gluing it will take. Should add that Martin allowed me to buddy to his big 4 stroke plane for 2 good sessions, and that went quite well, it is easier to fly than the FMS today. I owe him some red wine for the fuel!
  15. Disappointing sums it up a bit. Went to a calmish field today, usual support team there including my Buddy link, Martin. Got in the air after the usual checks, and the plane flew well, even when i had the sticks it went quite well. The numbers of 'rescues' Martin has to grasp is getting less, however... The plane came down hard well outside the flying strip in the long grass while poor Martin was recovering it from one of my sudden aerobatic attempts, it was sa if signal was lost. The plne is salvagable but the undercarriage is off again out of the fuselage, wing spar buckled and some other more minor damage. May need a new spar this time round. Plane really looks like it's in the War Zone. We checked the plane battery after retrieval, down to 58% from 98% so not the battery. Did a distance check on reduced Tx power @40 meters, everything moved correctly. Could this be the orientation of the Rx arials? In plan view the long wire (100mm) runs alongside the battery, right up to it and the 25mm short wire runs at 90 degrees to it but on the same plane, so describingan 'L' when looking at the plane from above, plan view. The Wise Boys recon the short should point upwards, and that the long wire may be better off sticking out the side into fresh air, ie away from the battery. Appreciate any comments. Back to ebay for some parts...
  16. Yes, plane on the table in one piece, no glue today! The charger is humming as the first battery goes to charge, 3 more to go. Martin commented that my Buccaneer would have flown well today, so still. Landings were a bit 'stretched' as no head wind to slow them down, so a few were stopped by the tall grass (as in 1 meter tall). Crashes, some due to pilot error and one due to Tx loss, ie out of range after 100 meters or there-abouts. Happened to the same chap who had lost his plane last week, so maybe both due to a dicky Tx? The one nose dived really hard, the nose/motor/mount (glow plug) was literally in the ground 9". Rest of the plane was collected in 2 big Sainsbury's bags. Another member, new to me, arrived with 3 planes, a Wot4 and two beauties, one petrol, other electric. His mid 20's (max) son flew them both so well it hurt. The small plane, ply laser cut etc was really nice and flew even better. My goal is still to be able to bumble round with my Buccaneer and the Stol as well as this Kingfisher if I'm feeling snazzy. I hope that learning to master the K'fisher will over equip me for the simpler 3 Chanel oldies. If I achieve this I will be WELL pleased. That small modern plane of the youngster above was so nice though. Blue body, yellow wings stood out in the sky, and so well detailed when resting on the ground. Impressive. My oldest friend has caught the bug. He has started to restore/revive/modernize his Super 60 he built in about 1964 which had a single channel McGreggor RC. Another modeler has given him 2 trainer foamies with R/C gear! Are there any tablets we can take?
  17. Feels like BIG progress today. Took the plane to the field to find the sock limply hanging down, overcast and the usual members there inc Martin my patient 'instructor' who i buggy box with. Had 3 battery's worth of flying, Martin always there to rescue me, take off and land, but I actually flew some good circuits and definitely got going with the coordination of the ailerons and elevator, even getting some praise from Martin and the die-hards there. I am slowly getting used to the movement/delay in the plane and also controlling the height loss when turning using the elevator plus getting used to the time and space of the field. Feeling well chuffed, no gluing required, 3 batteries to charge and 5 mins seems about right. Rest of my time was spent on Recovery Duties as 3 planes bit the dust. Excellent and encouraging 2.5 hours.
  18. None of the incidents were my flights or plane. I decided it was all too strong for me even if buddied up as it puts the volunteer experienced buddy under unfair stress when it inevitably got tough. My bruised Kingfisher stayed in the boot to live for a calm/ another day. Still, learnt a bit watching for a few hours. My 'instructor' took his 4 stroke powered balsa/ply plane up and it flew great allbeit with a bumpy landing. Not a day for foam models!
  19. Crashes, stiff gusts close to big trees. Flyaway is a theory as where we clearly saw the plane come down was behind a big tree into a field of very tall grass (18") and after 30 mins of 3 of us trampling around, found nothing so have assumed the actions to get the plane back up were unseen but happened. could easily have gone into another field but then private land..
  20. Tried to fly today, but the sock was horizontal most of the time and gusting. 2 models into the ground and one AWOL, couldn't find it even though we thought we saw where it came down, so somewhat dis-spirited, came home. This is tougher by the week!
  21. Right! I'm sold, will delve into the Phoenix device and hope my ultra fine and capable IT skills work... Off to the field today I hope for some buddy box flying if the wind not too bad. The demo at the show was for heli but there was a fixed wing playing, £35 as you say. Phoenix first.
  22. Thanks all. I went to the model air show at Weston Park yesterday and watched a 9 year old (typical) with a modern Tx, a lead, to the large TV screen in thier trade tent and the image was really realistic. It was iActiveRC. I am getting 2 flying experiences from willing volunteers from 2 flying fields this week, but feel i need far more 'contact' with this whole new learning curve I'm at the base of. I would like to use the actual Tx I'm 'flying' with. Time moves fast and I thought i would ask in this section incase something new had caught the eye of some.
  23. Trying to get competent in the air (I am an absolute novice, 70 years old) and some have suggested a simulator for rainy days etc. What is available today? I have an FMS Kingfisher trainer with Spektrum DX6 Tx and Rx. Any suggestions please. Graham.
  24. Flew the Kingfisher this morning! Got a lot of help from all 4 flyers there on a very sunny and quite still field. Eventually got the buddy cord to work and the 2 experts trimmed the plane, checked it's abilities (a loop!) and handed over to me and took over when it went pear shaped. Ran one battery down and 2/3's of another before Tim had to leave, but i flew it and did not crash. They obviously took off and landed it, but it flew great. So, what did i learn? 1 It takes (or will take) this old dog ages to learn this new trick, but I'm keen, but not sure I can deliver tbh. 2 Away and Towards flight orientation is not yet intuitive, and getting a SIM was recommended. 3 This is the place to learn, so will be joining up so keeping my 'instructors' 4 Fly high and get used to it. Adds much more room for recovery. 5 Everyone want you to succeed! 6 Battery capacity is easily exceeded... Next lesson Tuesday I hope if weather permits and Tim is free.
