Is the cg really where shown on the plan? It seems a long way forward, my 2200 lipo is in the nose section to balance.

My 2200 Lipo is as stated on the plan and I had to add about 20grs really upfront to have it launched in a straight line.

    Hi Jeff,

There are other threads with the Sprite as well as my album Sprite in Lisbon. The plan was published in the RCM&E 2107 special edition. I don't think it is available in the plans service.

Please send me a pm via the msg facility for further details.

    Hello Jeff,

Given the chamges to the website and loss of notifications, it's been a while since I came back here. About the Sprite you intend to build, is there any update? I tried to maiden mine in March (due to the lockdown) but it was very twitchy. A few metres after take-off it went into a bush and lost a battle with a branch. A leading edge broke and the matching servo displayed erratic behaviour. Soon to be fixed.

    Regards,

    Paulo

  4. Thank you Kester for the message and advice on the servos.

See more of Nuno Miguel's Hawk here with better footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEV4_7uDAAM&ab_channel=KemSemeiaVentos and his A-10 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5pwAfh4RpY&ab_channel=KemSemeiaVentos and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YAuzJpPP4c&ab_channel=KemSemeiaVentos. In the latter, a Hawk in SwissAF colours is also flown.

  5. Thank you Kester for your message and useful info.

Please send the throw info but there's no rush. It's always useful to have lessons learned stuff from other fellow modellers. As many have said, in small models like these the throws are usually larger than they should be. My Vector and Mini-Blitz were set with about 1/3 of the recommended throws and I dial in a lot of D/R (for my style of flying, I keep expo values low) to have the models well mannered in the air. Except for the Mini-Blitz, I also had to add up some weight to have the Vector, Cutlass and Agritug properly balanced.

BTW, some advice is needed on how to set the servo arms in the wings recessed during assembly and have them pop-out to neutral position.

Congrats on your lovely model. I'll try to match your workmanship, particularly when it comes to the covering!

    More pics to follow soon.

If you have the time and patience search YT and FB for Clube de Aeromodelismo de Lisboa to see what I and other fellow modellers are up to.

    Best regards,

    Paulo

  6. Hello all,

Just to let you know that i've started building a Sprite too. Here's the beginning. F1 and doublers are missing in the photo, but they are made by now, as well as most of Sprite progress - 2020-09-22 at 17.28.33.jpegthe left wing. So far, only wood from the scrap box has been used!smiley

Servos are sourced and the rest of the electronics were ordered. I'll keep you posted and perhaps the occasional nagging question may show up.

    Regards,

    Paulo

  8. Hello Chris,

Check in this link **LINK** the 2nd flight of the Agritug preceded by the 1st flight to see how it behaved after adding more 95grs at the front.

The 3rd flight ended in a bush because the engine cut in flight. Bent motor axle and some scratches😒

At home I found out that the culprit were faulty solder joints, as i moved them around and the engine performed flawlessly in some positions and not in others. When I come back from holidays I will solder the connections again.

    Best regards,

    Paulo.

  9. Thx Chris!

Next Sunday it looks the weather (wind wise) looks good. It'll be hot again, of course. At least, we've got some pine trees to provide some shade, whereas at Ota airbase where I also go flying regularly, there's no such thing. Furthermore, you get hot from above and from the tarmac reflecting the heat! hot

    Have a great one!

    Paulo

PS: "Where does the time go?" - a zillion dollar question...

  10. Hello Chris!

The Agritug maidened today and it was a success! See it here: **LINK** and you can also check Clube de Aeromodelismo de Lisboa FB profile.

Still needs more weight up front. Just this flight today, as when i was readying the model for another flight with more 50grs in the nose, i found out that the tailwheel had decided to go its own ways and it was an hopeless search in the scorching heat!

Curious to see that it's been 9 years already that the plan was published!

As soon as there's more videos i'll let you know.

    Best regards,

    Paulo

  11. Thanks Chris!

I's a pity having to be confined due to the damn virus. It really wrecked a lot in our lives angry 2

Checked the DH84. Lovely. I visited Duxford twice and got to see the real thing flying. Awesome!smile d

  12. Despite this week efforts on the model, it was not enough to have it ready to maiden today. Lack of suitable acetate for the canopy as well as canopy glue meant it was not going into the air. Plus, proper routing of wiring in the fuselage is still to be done, Other than that, it only needs registration letters and a romanian flag as per the plan, Can be installed later. Weather permitting, next weekend is likely to maiden.

  13. I already went back to the field and a fellow modeller hand-launched some of my models. The rules established by the national federation stipulate that only two pilots can be operating their models at the same time and in the whole field no more than ten modellers should be present. Mask usage is highly recommended.

We managed to do that without major issues and as the field is large, it could easily accomodate more than the numbers above provided that social distancing is enforced. Starting this week, the major hurdle is to endure the heat at the site... around 30C by 11AM will be the norm! surprise

As for having a dolly to get the models into the air, I'm having the same thoughts... At least precludes the occasional glitches that occur with hand launches, even though I have the benefit of having helpers that know what they're doing.

Get the Vector in the air soon and share some pics!

    Paulo

  14. Thx Chris for your input.

I also think that servos with nearly 3kg/cm are more than capable of handling the loads in the moving surfaces. But other opinions are always welcome.

    Stay safe!

    Paulo

  15. Hi all,

One question regarding the servos - will Hitec HS-81 micro servos stand up to the job on all moving flying surfaces? The specs are as follows:

    Motor Type: 3 Pole
    Bearing Type: None
    Speed (4.8V/6.0V): 0.11 / 0.09 sec @ 60 deg.
    Torque oz./in. (4.8V/6.0V): 36 / 42
    Torque kg./cm. (4.8V/6.0V): 2.6 / 3.0
    Size in Inches: 1.17 x 0.47 x 1.16
    Size in Millimeters: 29.72 x 11.94 x 29.46
    Weight ounces: 0.58
    Weight grams: 16.44

At the stated torque, I believe it will suffice. Right or wrong?

    Thx.

    Paulo

  16. Thank you Chris and Bell for your kind words. I'll be back here and surely I'll ask nagging questions to vou

I'm a slow builder and not that competent. I also have lack of a proper workshop, having to make do at the home office (I live in an apartment) and occasionally at my in-laws garage. Sometimes I get to use a properly mounted drill and sanding and sawing machines. Otherwise, I do it all manually! Thus, I may stall the build for months at a time

Anyway, I'll set the goal of maidening the model in 2020. Meanwhile, only the ribs need cutting (the central ones are done).

    Regards,

    Paulo

  17. Hello all!

This model has been in my list for some years. Now, the lockdown 'age' provided the perfect setting to start building it. I found the pictures in this thread to be very informative, as I cannot acces the computer disk with the original digitized article.

Only two pictures now, but as I write this message, all fuselage parts have been cut as well as the central wing ribs and the wingtip pieces.

Watch this space for more. Suggestions from all of you will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Paulo
